Question

Posted

I don't own a laptop or computer, or have access to download the software to one. I have a tablet and can I barely surf and pay my bills online with it. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to program repeaters manually? I installed the radio in my jeep today and heard somebody on channel 16 while I was trying to set it up.

It certainly does sound like the antenna may be your problem. Of course it could be the cable to the antenna as well. Do you have a meter to check SWR. I was under the impression Chirp was not available for the DB20.?

Last time I checked it still wasn’t available in Chirp. That has been a month probably.

... sorry no screen shot, at work without that chirp computer. As always, could be user error, but with trying simplex no tones it makes me more worried.

I will bet dollars to donuts that the reference to "chirp" was a typo or auto-correct mistake.

Don't hold your breath for Chirp support on the DB20-G; is just not gonna happen.

I suspect they said Chirp but this was a reference to the radios program software in general. It certainly seems Chirp isn’t moving forward for this radio for whatever reasons, though I’m sure it would be welcomed as the radio is so popular in its various forms.

Didn't get to look yet but that check will happen. bigger concern still is that the same result is happening when i use VFO mode on both radios and don't rely on chirp programming for the HT.

no orignal antenna. Bought used from friend who had no issues on his set up, Only difference for me is I unlocked it to use HAM bands as well. know that could be an issue, but was able to RX before antenna came in on simplex at up to 20 yards on simplex while checking channels as I saved them to make sure they worked.

Help me understand , please. You were able to hear voice transmissions on the db20g without an antenna, but once you connected the coax and antenna you no longer could hear voice transmissions (annd you made no other changes?)

Go back to a configuration that works, even if that means listening without an antenna.  Then change one thing at a time so you can eliminate distractors.

I would like to help but I am unclear at what you are saying here.

Also, my other problem with helping you is this damn'd format of sorting by votes for this type of post!  Yes, I know I can change it to sort by date, but I still find it bothersome.

I will make an exception for you though...

Are you able to receive and hear your local Weather Band station?
