I installed what I think is the correct software (Baofeng_UV-5RM_CPS_20231124), selected the Port 3 and hit the Read button and get a Failure.

I can see the computer connecting to the HT.

Any thoughts or is there a newer version than that what is on the Baofeng website?

Thanks,

Brent

Also makes sure that the cable is plugged into the radio all of the way. My Baofeng GT-5R gave me fits until I realized I didn't have the cable plugged in all of the way. I couldn't tell just by looking at it.

Also make sure your cable has the preferred FTDI chip instead of the older Prolific chip.

Standard Windows go to...... Restart the computer! LOL

I originally downloaded the UV-5RM Plus software by accident and got the Failure.

I removed it from the computer and downloaded the actual UV-5RM software, installed and tried it then and got the Failure.

I restarted the computer which cleaned the cache and tried it again and it Read the HT successfully.

Thanks again gang!

Same "no read" issue with the UV-5RM Plus that I have with the AR-5RM in CHIRP. Baofeng software reads the radio but you can't program Airband and the UV won't accept the saved AR radio program so I'll have to enter everything I'm the program by hand.

I have two Baofengs that I program with CHIRP.  On one of the radios, the cable plug does not fully insert.  It looks like it is fully inserted, but it is not and hence get that error message.  To program it, I have apply pressure to the connector to make it go in further and hold it down while the programming is downloading.

Are you guys using the latest version of CHIRP Next?

Are you making sure that the programming cable is pushed all the way in?

I have used CHIRP to program the UV-5R GMRS and GT-5R radios I own without issues as long as I make sure the cable is pushed into the radio all the way. I also have programmed a couple of UV-5RM radios and UV-9R radios again without issues. I used the latest version of CHIPR Next and the OEM Baofeng programming cables for all of them.

I programmed the two UV-5RM radios a couple of weeks ago and programmed the UV-9R radios yesterday.

Note: the UV-9R uses a Motorola type connector and not the usual Kenwood type connector.
