Mygmrs lists 131 in Florida.

Good repeaters are expensive to put up and maintain. They benefit greatly from height. Most of Florida is height challenged. But 131 is a decent number.

California has twice the land area, and 160 repeaters listed on mygmrs, which is far fewer per square mile, and per capita.

But California also has MOUNTAINS. Putting just one ore two on peaks can cover hundreds of miles of area and range.

With all the hunters and trails in the Ocala Forest why aren't there more repeaters here

Well I’d bet money and a place to put one up might be the issue? I don’t know that exact area but do cell phone work well in that area?

Like everything else in life you can be the one to solve your issue.   You can gather the funds, buy the good quality repeater, coax, tower and antenna, then you can find a place to put it all up.   Then you will figure out exactly why no one else has done it.

Also as a hunter of over 40 years and a generational hunter I’ve never used or wanted to use a radio let alone a repeater while hunting.
