What is the most commonly used channel for gmrs.

That's a good question! I would just scan around the 22-channels, whichever channel comes up more that the channel. I don't the interference that sometime interrupt the scan. but when you actually voices. There are a few retailers and other businesses that GMRS to facilitate their communication needs. For example, Big Blue Swim School uses channel 13 and 14 as an intercom for Swimming Instructors and Lifeguards as well administration staff. Sounds a bit weird, but that the way they operate. If you want to know about whether or Businesses use GMRS Repeaters. I can't give you a straight answer, but I'm sure somewhere a small mom and pop operation might use one or two. So, your scanner up with all 22-channels and scan a way. The reason I said to set your scanner is because you don't want to accidently press your PTT and get into debate on who has dibs on that particular channel. I realize that why the manufactures put sub audible tones in radios. Then again, most commercials establishment don't take the time to understand the General Mobile Radio Service Rules and Regulations. They just know that they have saved money that could have been spent for a commercial license and a assigned frequency or frequencies allocations.

Hope this helped you, even though I may have added more, or I could have strayed off course a bit.

The answer is similar to "what radio should I buy?"

It depends.

Scan the channels and you may get a read on who is on the channels most often.  In my area, Twin Cities in MN, most of the lower gmrs and frs channels are businesses and kids, a couple school.  There are a few of us on my side of town that park on ch 18 to chat.  Scant traffic on any of the repeaters in town.  I use ch 15 around the house, and either 7 or 16 when on group off-road rides in the truck.

Best advice again is to scan the channels and see what you hear. plug in the tones for any repeates you know of in the area and monitor.

The absolute best GMRS channel is the one that you and the people you want to communicate with decide to use.

If your goal is to find new friends then I suggest CB or Ham.  Or as a certain Youtube hobo says: try one of the Inter web dating sites,

Enjoy, there is no better communication platform than GMRS.,

Another good point! Thanks for not telling me that I'm way off into left field. I tried to stay with the subject / Topic. All I know, you have added onto what I should have added. Thanks again!

Yep, that's the best answer yet! Almost makes me want to have writer's block. I think I'm not staying on the subject and I wind up stretching out a simple answer.

I am pretty darn new to the GMRS world.  I would say first, figure out how you plan on using GMRS and why?  I have seen on here the saying, GMRS is a bring your friends with you activity.

The first thing I did was find GMRS Facebook groups specific to my area and read posts.  Crazy enough there was a meet and greet at one of the local repeaters so, I was able to go meet folks in person, ask questions and make contacts.  Fo me, GMRS serves two purposes: 1) SHTF communications with family and receive local information in that scenario and 2) make friends that share GMRS common interests.  The 2 part has been achieved by learning which of the local repeaters have activity on them.  Here in the Dallas / Fort Worth area the best one are the DAL600 or DAL REACT repeaters (great range on both since they sit on a tall building), there is a nightly round table at 2100 hrs Monday through Thursday on DAL600 and usually a lot of chatter leading up to that time.  I also monitor KRUM575 because that covers more of the Fort Worth side of the metroplex and has a meetup at 2100 on Saturday.

I found myself monitoring the standard 1-22, plus my programmed repeater channels more and more but, really only play with the simplex stuff with local friends given the terrain and structures around the house.

Anyway, that's a new guy's take on the question for what it is worth.
