Yup, and most GMRS repeater operators set their ID's to activate every half hour on the half hour, regardless of traffic..  WHY??   There's 6 repeaters in my area and when you scan, you hear a constant string of CWID's and appositely no voice traffic through the day..   It's comical.   The HAM guys are a little more brilliant, at least they set for 'busy only'

Right... calling bullshit on that for SURE.

I have a VHF repeater that belongs to NARA (Newark Ama.... ) and that thing has not less than 3 separate IDer's connected to it.  They claim to run multiples because if one fails the others will keep them 'legal'. The one is set for every 9 minutes.  I have a logging recorder that shows this, 24/7/365 it ID's every 9 minutes.  Then there are, as you mentioned, TWO additional 'busy only' IDer's that run.  One only announces when it's made busy, by time.  But will react to any PTT of the system.  The other announces when busy in 15 minute increments based on the actual time so, top and bottom of the hour and 1/4 past and 3/4 past.  So, if you key it, it will immediately ID.  Then you key it again the second IDer will ID.  If it's in the quarter hour, the THIRD IDer goes active.  I get on there from time to time... throw my call, wait on the first ID.  Reply, WHAT YOU SAY??? Second IDer.  COULD YOU REPEAT THAT??? Third IDer. THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT YOU SAID,,, or YOU JUST GONNA KEEP REPEATING YOURSELF, WHERE'S THE AI CHAT BOT TO KEEP ME COMPANY?  And the NARA people then get on the air all pissed off at me.  Of course I explain NO ONE wants to use the dumb thing because you can't have a conversation on it because the IDer's don't polite ID or fall back to  quiet CW.  They just changed the call sign on the repeater,  and it's still like that..... with a new call.

Hammies, at least the local ones what their repeater controller to tell time, weather, frequency, PL/DPL, current price of ass wipe. AND the repeater call sign.  And it's annoying as hell.

I've only heard one Ham repeater announce voice (not CW) date, time, , weather, frequency, PL Tones and price of TP on the 15 min mark regardless of traffic and that was in El Segundo about 4 years ago.. I haven't hear a GMRS repeater as such yet.  And i also read a lot of forum chatter of people making fun of it.. The last i read, the operator got wise and took all that migril garbage off line. Wise!    Now my question.. Why is it necessary to fill the airwaves with repeated CW and or Voice chatter on a frequency that is seldom used.  The comical part to me, when you hear this CW (or voice) 99.9% of time and no other real traffic.. I just shake my head at it.

LI East End repeater in NY on 575 announces by voice on the 35 after and on the hour it sometimes gives weather.  It's a pay to play repeater and I only hear it when the tropospheric ducting is just right.  But I hear it often enough to know it does voice and CW for ID.

I would almost bet you are not hearing the repeater opening /closing squelch after you key up to speak.  IF THAT IS THE CASE, you're not close enough for the repeater to hear you (for the repeater to get your signal).

I assume the people you hear (opening & closing) on the gate chatter could very well just be on the simplex side of the channel and not speaking on the repeater at all.

I've been right at where the map shows the location 300 feet or less from it and nothing.

No they are not. This is the forum which is public. The tones on the map repeater site is not public. You need to be signed in to see them. In case you missed my previous post. Per the owner of this site @rdunajewski the rules are as follows with an explanation of why.

Private content. Do not post sensitive information such as repeater PL/DPL (also known as privacy or CTCSS/DCS tones) tones outside of the Private Discussion forum. This is to protect sensitive information from being picked up and indexed by search engines such as Google and Bing. Also, do not post any personal information about our members, including but not limited to, their home address even if it is publicly available by searching online

General Discussion is not in the private discussion forum. Here is a complete list of this sites rules .

I don’t make the rules of the forum but I try follow them. You may want to note number one since you signature is an advertisement.

IF I am reading the repeater listing correctly it has been shut down/turned off, for sometime (7 months) (Disabled by Owner -Updated 7 months ago).  Contact the owner.

Ocala 650 is a NGGMRS linked repeater, and access requests go through NGGMRS at www.nggmrs.org, and the PL tones and frequencies for ALL their repeaters are publicly available on their website, and no login or membership is required to view all this info. So, I don't see anything wrong with posting it here. The repeater owner, WQYU407, is not the NGGMRS club. He is a private individual who built a repeater network, and allows NGGMRS to use the network.

If you didn't get a response, then you didn't hit the repeater. There are always people monitoring on this network, and the talk of gate codes and stuff does not sound like any sort of traffic you will normally hear on the NGGMRS net.

Listen in on 462.650 MHz (with no PL tones set, so you hear everything on the frequency) tonight (Sun Nov 10) from 7pm onwards, and you should hear The Rabbit Hole net going on. Or, listen every Thursday at 7pm for the weekly group discussion net.
