Problems w/Baofeng AR-152 CHIRP PROGRAMMING,loss of wattage as a result ?!?

Generally if you leave a battery-powered device on, the wattage in the battery decreases.

No totally sure what you’re asking.  Also are you a new gmrs user that doesn’t have a call sign on this site yet or are you a random none licensed person using a ham radio for gmrs with no license?  
 

1st I’d have to ask how do you know what the wattage was before your programmed it with chirp and how to do know it went down.  Then I’d have to ask what exactly those numbers are.  What if anything have you done to investigate this issue? 

 

However…2nd…. Since people seam to want hands held.    I’d bet some cash that chirp simply loaded the new channels on low power.   Go into the program and check each power level.  
 

id also suggest that since this seams beyond your ability’s to try solutions first before asking questions, you get a gmrs radio for now and learn to use it.  And….. join up here for real.

There have been a few radios where the power outputs of programmed channels appear to be recalibrated after programming.  I don’t recall if the AR-152 is one of those.  Some posts have even mentioned that the result seemed like the power output was inverted after programming, so high power in the menu put out less power than low power.  I’ve never experienced that with Chirp but that’s not to say that others haven’t.

Alcohol has funny effects

To Steve Shannon:I am New to this forum in addition to recently becoming very interested in GMRS & HAM Radio. Was on a GMRS forum recently, and caught wind of a discussion concerning Programming a AR-152 Baofeng w/CHIRP, and apparently a gentleman purchased two AR-152s from different dealers to determine if it was related to specific dealers, but in both cases of using CHIRP to program them, they both had power resets that were lower than before programming them. And he was unable to reset or remedy the problem. My interest in this IS that I just ordered a Baofeng AR-152, and was going to use one of the plug-in Tidradio programmers, and was concerned that it would cause this irreversible power reset,  and My interest in the AR-152 was based on it’s supposed Actual vs the proclaimed 10w output of around 7.5-8.0 watts, and it’s 12ah of battery capacity. So I thought I’d ask around for anyone else who might be aware of this. Apparently, it was CHIRP specifically that caused this power reset w/the AR-152. I’m concerned about using these programming shortcuts, and will probably go through the arduous process manually, until I can get more info on this problem, and Yes, I am new to this forum, as well as being an interested Neophyte to GMRS & HAM. Will be getting My GMRS License soon, and will be studying for My HAM Technician License. Thx for your response, and please excuse my Neophyte status, as I’m new to the GMRS & HAM Community.

I just wanted to point out that there was a lot of humor in some of the responses in this thread.  It was pointed out on another thread that using humor with newbies (of which I am one) is apparently a no-no.  I am a special newbie that did not lose his funny bone when I got my GMRS and General Class licenses, so it does not affect me.  However, because we now have at least one generation that could not win a rock paper scissors battle, much less Guadalcanal or the Battle of the Bulge, we are supposed to treat them with the kindness they were promised at birth (apparently).  Remember, he is probably used to creating solutions for non-existent problems not actually trying to solve a real problem. 

I just noticed that my reply post contains hints of sarcasm and some facetiousness, both of which are elements of humor.  I want to apologize to the starving pygmies in New Guinea, one legged men/women/?? in a butt kicking contest or any other contest of kicking things.  No squirrels were harmed in the posting of this and in no way can this be duplicated without the expressed written permission of the commissioner's office.
