UHF Antenna for GMRS?

Question

Posted

I'm just curious. I've seen a few random tests around from boredom of using dual band 70cm/2m antennas for GMRS. Either everyone's meters are inaccurate, or, It's a hoax. But, seems resonant to me, considering the range isn't too off. I'm just curious what everyone thinks about it and has anyone here actually tested from curiosity?

I have a dual-band Diamond for my 2m/70cm radio and have all of the GMRS channels programmed into memory. I've had excellent results with it with VSWR (measured by my antenna analyzer) of around 2.1:1, which is acceptable.

That said, if I had room for a dedicated GMRS radio in my little Toyota Camry, I'd definitely opt for a mono-band antenna tuned properly for GMRS frequencies.

I use a couple of comet c&a 2x4's and 2 of the tram 1181's. All 4 antennas have <2:1 on 2m, murs, 440, gmrs. For my money the tram 1181 is the antenna of choice....
