I can RX but not TX. Need help.

Question

Posted

Hi there. I've been approved access to CV GMRS (462.650, D072N, the offset I believe is at +5.000). I can receive via TIDRADIO TD-H3 but I cannot seem to transmit. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

make sure your radio is in GMRS mode (it is by default), then make sure you are on Repeater Channel 19/Repeater 5 (i dont remember how it is listed on the H3, you may have to refer to the user manual).  When you are on the correct repeater channel you do not need to worry about the offset.  Whilst on the correct channel, go in to the menus and enter your D072 tone (it won't show N, just find the 072), save it, and you're done.

After you have done all that, if it still does not work come back and give us more detail about "cannot seem to transmit" - such as how are you determining that it is not transmitting, and the steps you took up to that point - and please tell us what a "CV" is.

Hi OffRoader, thanks a bunch! First, the easy one. "CV" I believe means Coachella Valley since the repeated is in this area. Two, I am on repeater 5 with RX and TX tone set at D072N. Reason why I say I cannot seem to transmit is becasue I can receive conversations but I can't seem to reach out to anyone. I have two radios. When I TX on one, the other seems to acknowledge it becasue there's a static sound somehow. and vice versa. But I really dont know if users are receiving me.

Also, on CHIRP, the DTCS Polarity is set to "NN", and i am not sure if that is the correct one.

I use that repeater when I go off-roading in that area - I was on it/using it on Saturday when I was in Joshua Tree.. It sounds like you have the settings right - not sure why you aren't connecting.. When you figure it out and get on the repeater tell Salton Sea Randy (he's the OTHER Randy) that NotARubicon said hello..

Are those two radios close to each other when you transmit?

If so, the transmitting radio may be overloading the receiving radio, causing a condition called “desense.”

Nor really. I only do that to test. But otherwise i turn off the other one and in the box when I'm trying to connect.

BTW does desense happen on TX as well? I thought that's a concern on RX.
