WSHH887 Posted Monday at 08:07 AM Report Posted Monday at 08:07 AM Just received my license and noticed that they seem to all start with W. Back when TV was new, yea I'm that old, Radio and TV station call letters started with W on the East coast and K on the west coast. I think the Mississippi river was the dividing line. Has that standard been done away with? Quote

WRYZ926 Posted Monday at 12:25 PM Report Posted Monday at 12:25 PM As BoxCar has mentioned, different licensing pool. You still run across some KA call signs for GMRS. The KA call signs haven't been issued in about 30 years though. The standard for Radio and TV stations is still the same. All stations east of the Mississippi start with W and all stations west of the Mississippi start with K. There are a few exceptions to this. If I remember correctly there is one station in PA that starts with a K and one in TX that starts with a W. They had their call signs before things were standardized. WRUU653 and WRNU354 2 Quote
