There are lots of good radios out there. The Wouxun KG-935G plus is certainly one at the top of my list for an HT. For Mobile the KG-1000 plus has bells and whistles. 

The right radio for you could include many factors that only you can determine (price, waterproof, number of channel spaces, simple or complex, and so on). Whatever you choose ignore those that tell you that you chose wrong and enjoy. Most of all, good luck stopping at one

I have looked far and wide and settled on a Wouxon 935G, which seems to have high selectivity, clean transmissions and just feels like the old Motorola's quality. I don't use chirp, i use there proprietary software which is fine for me since its also free. Really hard to find alternatives with this quality and features. But my quest is never ending.  

 

Though i do have to say there is a special place for my Tidradio H3, one heck of a cheap mediocre radio.

Chirp is not good according to the people on here. It’s like a baufeng radio, it’s just no good. It works perfectly fine but is free so people hate it.    You’re gonna have to upgrade to rt systems and buy a Wouxon.   Whoa ocean radios are so clean if they had buts you could eat off of them.   The are so advanced they receive even a 2w signal from 1000moles away since they have super duty receivers not some junk chip set.  You have 1,000,000 pre programmed frequencies for shtf times.  People on here say they are the best ht radios you can possibly get plus they have like 100 different antennas you can buy to try and get an extra 20’ transmit distance.    They cost 3-4xs as much as an equivalent radio that works just as good or better and uses chirp but then you won’t fit in here with this group on this site.  
 

in the end all, and I mean all, gmrs ht radios work just as good and it’s up to you and only you to know what features you want to spend your money on as well as how much money you want to (waste) I mean spend.
