There are lots of good radios out there. The Wouxun KG-935G plus is certainly one at the top of my list for an HT. For Mobile the KG-1000 plus has bells and whistles.

The right radio for you could include many factors that only you can determine (price, waterproof, number of channel spaces, simple or complex, and so on). Whatever you choose ignore those that tell you that you chose wrong and enjoy. Most of all, good luck stopping at one 😉

A HT or mobile, with high selectivity, clean transmissions (minimal spurious emissions), able to be programed by chirp. Nice to have a zone feature but this is not necessary.

I have looked far and wide and settled on a Wouxon 935G, which seems to have high selectivity, clean transmissions and just feels like the old Motorola's quality. I don't use chirp, i use there proprietary software which is fine for me since its also free. Really hard to find alternatives with this quality and features. But my quest is never ending.

Though i do have to say there is a special place for my Tidradio H3, one heck of a cheap mediocre radio.

Chirp is not good according to the people on here. It’s like a baufeng radio, it’s just no good. It works perfectly fine but is free so people hate it.    You’re gonna have to upgrade to rt systems and buy a Wouxon.   Whoa ocean radios are so clean if they had buts you could eat off of them.   The are so advanced they receive even a 2w signal from 1000moles away since they have super duty receivers not some junk chip set.  You have 1,000,000 pre programmed frequencies for shtf times.  People on here say they are the best ht radios you can possibly get plus they have like 100 different antennas you can buy to try and get an extra 20’ transmit distance.    They cost 3-4xs as much as an equivalent radio that works just as good or better and uses chirp but then you won’t fit in here with this group on this site.

in the end all, and I mean all, gmrs ht radios work just as good and it’s up to you and only you to know what features you want to spend your money on as well as how much money you want to (waste) I mean spend.

You got downvoted a lot, I am guessing most people don't understand sarcasm. I do and think this is hilarious.

After a lot of research and so many main stream radio manufacture like Motorola just not making good advanced radios, I went with a Wouxun KG-935G that's really robust with features, works really well and reminds me of old school Motorola. I also have a Q10H, but the Q935G has a much better display.

Not sure why you want to lock into CHIRP.   If you want everything you're asking for and a much better CPM,  Try a Motorola, Kenwood, Hytera and really never look back with no questions asked.

So then you would also suggest the TidRadio H3 as an option if all radios work just as good. Good to know.

Well that's...unfortunate, that post/comment was so bad in my feeble mind it HAD to be sarcasm.

My current main programing rig is a M1 MacBook Pro and chirp runs natively on MacOS. I currently run /\/\ CPS33 fine until it's time to actually program the radio and then it doesn't work. I have to send the file to my desktop and run it into the radio there. So even though the software for the S65G and Q10H run fine in parallels I am worried that they will suffer the same fate as my /\/\ software.

Thank you for that info, I have been looking into the Q10H, S65G, and Q935G the former because they come in blue💗. I have played with the stock software for them and they seem awesome, but see my reply to WRUE951.

Wouxun's latest addition  is the 935H which is identical in appearance to the 935G, but being a 3 Band radio for amateur radio with the 2meter/1.25 meter/70 cm bands, and with a 4 digit keypad trick it will also add Gmrs & Murs . Mine has been pretty flawless so far, and I like it alot.  For those who hold both licenses, it's a nice addition.

I've been on some other forums and I've read about issues like yours. In a few cases the radios got bricked. The Windows VM's seem to have some issues with serial port and USB port pass through at times. Have it mess up while programming a radio, or worse updating the firmware, could make for a very bad experience.

I've had a mixed bag of luck using Chirp. Some radios it seems to do OK. Others it screws up good. Remember the guys who do the programming for the various radio models Chirp claims to support is done by reverse engineering the communications to the radio and figuring out how the code plug is "structured" internally. They don't always get it right, and if the manufacture changes somethings it can hose your radio.

My general recommendation is to use the manufacturers official programming software where possible on the supported platform.
