3D Printed Radio Organizers

I got sick of all my radios and batteries falling over every time someone sneezed nearby, so I did some light CAD work and 3D printing this afternoon.

 

 

 

I think I might re-do this one to have antenna storage on board as well...

Umm. Mine just sit in the charge cradles until I go to use them.  I do t get it.  Seams like a solution looming for a problem.

3D printers are going to make "Engineers" out of a lot of people. One doesn't have to own a machine shop to make some impressive stuff. The 3D model rendering is a great feature that lets ordinary people "see" what their creation is going to look like. Trying to do that off some 2D drawings is rather hard.

Now all we need is some really cheap powered metal 3D printers. There are some expensive professional ones out there that use lasers to fuse the powered metal into a solid.

That was the biggest driver of this project for me, honestly. The batteries were friggin impossible to stack neatly without coming down like the end of a Jenga game every couple hours haha

I'm really happy with how I was able to 'nest' the radio bodies & batteries for the TD-H3. Unfortunately that wasn't really a viable option for the KG-905Gs because the belt clip is on the body of the radio. In practice, I like that mounting of the belt clip better than it being on the battery, but for storage, it's fractionally more difficult.

I created and 3d printed a holder to go on the vertical bar on my ride...
also made a wooden box to keep some of my radios, antennas, and other junk in.

It is amazing what is being done with 3D printers.  I do not have one yet, hopefully someday, but will have to improve my Fusion360 skills as they are lacking compared to the designs you guys have shown.  Like many of you, I found the radios starting to multiply so I did create my own version of an organization/charging shelf in metal.  Holds a lot of stuff, but already running out of room.   Also made a simple bracket for the Kenwood TK-880H mobiles as I take them in and out of my vehicles often.

YOUR problem is leaving radios in the charging cradle, when you're NOT charging them !! Damaging your batteries is a thing, but you already are a Know-it-all so Why tell you, Right ?

Some cool ideas there......mine tumble like dominoes when I reach for one and bump the others. (so far 16 ham, murs & gmrs hts)

That's funny, mine have done that too !  Some charging cradles, will allow you to put the radio in backwards, once it's fully charged so it stands up, but not in circuit.

Bingo, exactly that. I wanted to store them upright so they didn't take up a ton of room, with the batteries 'nested' with the bodies where I could (but not installed), so that they'd not all fall over every time I looked at the radio shelf haha

Such similar ideas and both appear to have a RAM truck..    I wanted to do an angle a little to improve readability but it stuck out too far for my dog to pass through getting in. If she gets any wider, what I have wont work.  Looks great.

The metal version is nice but i don't have the tools to do metal.  I actually copied the idea  for my version from someone selling them on Ebay for $80 bucks.  I figured, hell i can make that one my printer, probably cost me $5 bucks in ABS material.   Since, i've made about a dozen for friends and family with different variations for their make of vehicle.

That used to happen to me every time I reached for a radio. I purchased individual 3d printed stands (from a member here) for each of my HTs and now I don't have that issue. I went with individual stands so I can have a radio sitting where I happen to be without it falling over every time I bump it. The organizers are pretty cool though.
