Del Webb does not skimp and they are pretty savy at making deals i.e. my buddy gets his internet as part of the association package, no extra cost. Del Web make deals with Broadband providers whom they choose to allow to come into their properties. He gets a basic 300MB package free claims thats all he needs. I get about the same with my Starlink on my RV and it works great

I put this up in my attic for my repeater. It's just a backup that I can switch to in case of lightning. It comes with or without the ground plane kit, i recommend the ground plane kit. I haven't given it the distance test yet.

kidphc started following Antenna DB upgrade
-
If your antenna is 100 feet in the air an additional 1.5 db might be worth it. As you increase db the antenna's radiating pattern on an omni-directional antenna gets flatter. It sends more of it signal to its horizon. I would recommend plugging the info into a one of the free typographical antenna coverage calculators to quickly ascertain if it is worth it. They changed this tool it seams. It use to allow you to map it out and set each site differently with gain and antenna values. This is what I use to recommend. https://www.scadacore.com/tools/rf-path/rf-line-of-sight/ Have you thought about a yagi on with a TV rotator? Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk

Nope totally wrong. Tell him to kick rocks. If you had read the fcc rules that you already signed that you read you would know this. His pants are probably still on fire.

I use a comet 712efc. It’s awsome from my location with a 20w radio 200 miles is no problem. I also have a 9nc with a 50w radio. Not much difference in distance just more clear but boy can I hear everything much more clear. I always say get the highest gain you can. I have no negative effects in close.

I've got a repeater set up at my house. My antenna was damaged but I was able to fix it. I'm looking at replacing the antenna anyway. It's currently rated at 7.5db. I can get a comet that is rated at 9db for around 150 quid. I'm going to replace it either way, I'm just wondering if the extra DB and a half will make a noticeable improvement. I want to get the highest performing antenna I can under, say $200. It seems like there's an astronomical increase in price above 9db. The cheapest 10dbi can find is $2,000 it goes from $150 to $2,000. The antenna is mounted as high as I can get it and I've replaced the coax. I found a deal on 1/2 inch heliax.

Recs on suggested equipment to purchase

Im in a similar situation as you. I work near LAX and Wife is at home. We use a set baofeng UV5g plus HTs with the longer antennas we get about 4 miles on simplex HT to HT. I have a Retevis RA87 in my car she can hear me about 7 miles from home but i cant her her until the 4 mile mark on simplex. We are members of The Mesa Crest Repeater club. Using one of the clubs repeaters on either MT lukens or Santiago peak we can talk using the HTs from our home near the 605 and 405 FWY interchange all the way to San Clemente ca. If I switch to my mobile I can reach home from Encinitas Ca. -
He lied to you.. Right to your face..

For $20 from AliExpress I purchased the UV-13Pro and achieved the same results.

Third! He was completely wrong. No such notification is needed or even possible.

I second that.

He’s full of it. The license is in only one person’s name but all immediate family members are allowed to use that call sign.

Last time I checked the US military is still using 30 MHz to 70 MHz. I know we used that section all of the time when I was in. Low band was 30-50 MHz and high was 51-70 MHz. And the 6m band is not called the magic band for nothing. 6m is either open or it’s not. And it doesn’t matter if you are using FM AM or SSB. 6m FM won’t get much farther than 2m will

I was chatting with someone on one of the local repeaters, he said that I need to update the FCC with all persons using my license but I can't figure out that on the website. With that said, does anyone know how to do this? My apologies if I was misinformed and this is all incorrect.

Maybe it is the CCRPs that is the problem.

slight delay on reception of signals
Radioguy7268 replied to WSCQ874's question in Technical Discussion
I have seen certain PL/DPL codes that cause issues with some radios. If you can see the receiver LED is active before you actually start hearing audio, try switching your radios to a different PL code on the same freq & see if the problem goes away. For most of what I saw, it was usually the lower frequency PL tones (below 80 Hz) that were the ones that caused problems. -
an issue with a woxoun? No way? They are supposed to be handing down from the gods to man There is NO way a woxoun has any issues at all. Must be totally user error.

@WSFE961 I fixed your forum account so it shows the premium user group. This sometimes happens if you create your forum account after you sign up for the membership, sometimes the group doesn't get applied properly (a bug in the forum software we use). -

No updates that I know of. Unfortunately there is no mic gain adjustments on the KG-1000G and the mic is definitely hot. The best thing is to make sure to hold it at a slight angle when transmitting.

slight delay on reception of signals
GrouserPad replied to WSCQ874's question in Technical Discussion
We have these problems with frs radios at work. The people using the radios don’t know how to properly key them up before they start talking. (And for the record I tried to talk them out of frs and into Murs so not to take up an frs frequency but they didn’t listen) -
Any updates to these kg1000’s sounding a bit over modulated ? Mine is getting occasional reports of it sounding “too hot” or too much mic gain or puupuupuu thhthhthh ish when talking on it. I don’t want to hold the mic 12” from my face when mobile and frankly don’t like doing it from a base either. Purchased it 5 or 6 months ago…..

I guess when I get a boring moment, I'll snap some photos of my racecar communications and post them. I've done several racecar comm installations in the past and yes on a occasion or two, installations with mobile radio setups because of the unique application requirements.

slight delay on reception of signals
SteveShannon replied to WSCQ874's question in Technical Discussion
Is the other person using vox? Vox acts upon hearing a sound and as with everything the time it takes to key up can result in the very first sound being lost. If it’s truly a measurable delay from the time a sound is transmitted until the time it’s received, any humanly discernible delay would not be in RF reception, but delay could easily occur if any digital processing occurs, either at the transmitter or the receiver, or both. The other thing is that it’s always best to wait half a second after push PTT before speaking.
