  2. While admittedly, Chirp is easiler, for the most part; what’s wrong with you using the Baofeng CPS?
  3. What’s your point?!? The OP suggested SSB on 2 meters and you suggested a $1,900 Icom. I pointed out I make QSOs with 2 meter SSB stations at 5 watts HT for $20 and you are nit picking about DSB vs SSB Do you get a commission from Icom?!?
  4. After digging a little bit more, I'm pretty sure the answer to my own question is is "no". Going to see if I can get CPS set up in a virtual machine before I order one of these.

One fall morning last year i was picking up repeater station from LA here in the Mojave Desert 150 miles north. The signal was coming like they were a block away.. Lasted about a minute and went away.. Every onnce in awhile i hear stations coming in that are not local. Usually when it's cooler out
  6. Is it possible to program the channel groups/zones for the BF-F8HP Pro in CHIRP or does it have to be using the BTECH CPS?

  9. Okay, they eventually sometimes maybe respond, but don't count on it.
  10. I have the same radio and the same firmware installed. It does not work as a true single side band mode. It works in double side band mode. single side band is either upper or lower side band of the tiled frequency. Double side band uses both upper and lower side band. I've used the Quansheng on DSB mode and while it does wok, it is not the same as a radio with true single side band.
  11. Oh sweet summer child....
  12. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
  13. They probably respond to complaints, and they aren't getting any.
  14. Its cute that it's taken you this long to realize this fact.
  15. And yet, there is a group near me that has almost 20 repeaters linked to the 'net...and even have a zello channel. I'm beginning to think that the FCC's doesn't really enforce anything.
  16. Bridgecomm's code plug isn't good for much more than connecting to their hotspot. It has no repeater channels but local to them IIRC. Other than as a starting point, it isn't worth anything as virtually the entire plug is copied from places like Brandmeister and RadioID. "
  17. Doesn’t Bridgecom offer a codeplug that is a massive database of interesting frequencies!?

  19. Sorry, I was just joking around. The FCC recently made clear that linking GMRS stations over the Internet was against the regs.
  20. While I have great nostalgia for 6 meter AM when I was young, my experience here in SoCal is that 6 meters is dead, other than some FM repeaters that duplicate others on 440/220/145
  21. How would I link them?
  22. Do 10 meter SSB and FT8 before it goes dead with the collapsing of the 11 year solar cycle.
  23. A repeater can't "repeat" to another repeater, because the output frequency from one repeater (462) won't match the input frequency (467) of the other repeater. Obviously, they need to be linked.
  24. I specifically purchased the Quansheng UV-K5(8) and flashed the IJV3 firmware so that I now have a 5 watt HT that can communicate with 2 meter SSB for $20. I made a 65 mile QSO with my 5/8ths telescoping antenna.
  25. Now that I have my HAM Tech Lic. I'm thinking of 6M and maybe 10M to start with. I'll DMR later if I feel the need but thanks for all in info and posts here guys.
  26. $1500 on Amazon, my wife would skin me alive then chop me up and bury me in the backyard, LOL. The TK-11(8) looks decent enough to get on 6M to play around until I see if it's worth investing in. Until then I'll play with 2M/1.25M/70cm with the radios I have.
  27. Here's a list of what I've gotten so far. I'm still having trouble with Repeater Off Sets but I think I've got it right. The listed frequency is the RX and you use the Off Set for your TX Frequency, correct? HAM Channels.
  28. When I Upgraded my firmware, it changed the display screen, and, it messed up my unit. I turn it on and always push button 3 to turn on scanning of all channels. Once it starts scanning, it stops on a random channel and locks on the transmit button. The radio sits on transmit until the battery and unit get hot and i can feel it on my belt. I have to click the transmit button to break it loose, the scan starts back up and it doesn't get past 8 channels an does it again. Thought the battery was going to explode it was so hot. Had to take it apart and reach out to tid. Tid says that there is no way to revert to original firmware since I didn't record what version the radio came with. But, they said they will replace the radio. Just waiting to see if that happens..
