GMRSHub Node and a Verizon (ORBIC) RC400L
WRUU653 replied to Joeteck's question in Technical Discussion
The moment you said GMRS node you lost the argument that you are not using it for linking radios via the internet. Like zello. Ya see Gmrs, the R stands for radio. And Allstar is allowed for amateur radio. Not GMRS. Calling @SteveShannon a noob is both inaccurate and rude. Cheers -
Poison ivy and poison oak can grow in bush form or vine form. It is very easy to identify as a vine versus grape and other types of vines. Poison ivy and oak vines will always have a lot of air roots that clings to what it is growing on versus free hanging.

"Leaves of three, let it be!" Poison Oak/Ivy/Sumac always has this leaf configuration. If a plant has three leaves, that doesn't necessarily make it poisonous, but the ones that are will always have this configuration. Here we have California Blackberry, which also has three leaves an often grows right along with Poison Oak. It's not poisonous, but the thorns are another matter....

Agreed that that is the stated intent, but it seems like if they really wanted to restrict it like that, there would be only current-FRS-equipment-restricted GMRS or FRS, not both. Using a GMRS radio requires technical activities like programming and tuning antennas. That's not "Mom wants you home" or "Joe the lawn service guy" personal, by any means. "Hobby" or not, it's a technical service! Besides, we're talking about *changing* GMRS, so definitions may shift... I agree, but I wasn't suggesting that. I was talking about covering a couple of counties. Maybe 200 miles max, for my examples. For people who really need the range, but GMRS falls short. For example, trying to hunt down a weather-balloon experiment gone horribly wrong (not that I've ever done that multiple times ) can require coordinating dozens of search units in a four-county search that covers thousands of square miles. As the crow flies, the max spread might be 150 miles, but especially in places with mountains, you end up with five or six people driving out to high spots and relaying messages back and forth like a big game of telephone (which would be a better solution, if there were any towers nearby) being able to take a pair of long-range linked repeaters to the top of strategically tall and unobstructed geographic features would enable GMRS to cover all three counties directly...

That sucks, I know what you’re going through. When I was younger I wasn’t affected by the stuff so I would be the one to clear it out. Then in my twenties I was hiking through it to a rock climbing location and yep same story. I went to the doctors and he says “you have poison oak”, but I don’t get it I tell him. He explained it’s an allergy, one that most people have and you can develop an allergy at any time. I avoid it obsessively now constantly pointing it out when the wife and I go hiking with the dog. I have a friend that can’t get sap from pine trees on him after years of handling them for a family Christmas tree farm he became allergic. Damn poison oak oil can stay on things that touched it too and get you a second time, wash anything that you think it might have touched. I got it off my mountain bike two weeks later because I missed a spot cleaning the bike after a fall into it. Worse part was I didn’t get it the day of the fall as I got it all off me in time but the next ride I got it off the bike.

Hey, I get SMG1 from over here in Bellevue. I'm usually scanning during the day on Wednesdays and Fridays during the work day (~8:30-5:00) including today. Give me a shout. WSHZ630 - Adam. You might want to key up for 10 seconds or so before trying to be sure I pick you up on scan, that's about how long my cycle is. -
Crazy fan fiction theory.....Socal is an evil alternate acount of notarubicon....dr jekkyl/mr hyde kind of stuff..... only joking, as i know "i" and Randy's "best fan"....he told me so in a video.....

THE FCC PERMITS LANGUAGES BESIDES ENGLISH?
MarkInTampa replied to JHENRY's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
I did a server upgrade for a Dentist years ago. After installing the server, software and transferring data everything worked fine EXCEPT the way the teeth are counted/labeled was all wrong. I called customer support and found out that Dentists in England label teeth differently than those in the USA. The fix was to change the default installed language option from "English" to "American". -
GMRSHub Node and a Verizon (ORBIC) RC400L
WRYZ926 replied to Joeteck's question in Technical Discussion
If you are using a Verizon Orbic RC400L cellular hotspot then you are definitely using RF and also using the cellular service to connect the nodes. I see that you are having issues connecting the nodes through your cellular hot spots and since you are talking about DMZ, ports and IP addresses then you are connecting the nodes through the internet. All of which is prohibited by the FCC on GMRS. So you won't get much help here on this GMRS forum. Plus the attitude won't get you very far either. I can tell you that @SteveShannon is definitely not a noob to GMRS or amateur radio. Best of luck figuring out your networking issues. -
GMRSHub Node and a Verizon (ORBIC) RC400L
SteveShannon replied to Joeteck's question in Technical Discussion
Okay, but before you go, Joe, tell me more about what you’re trying to achieve. Are you not transmitting from a GMRS radio to the hotspot? Is it for the purpose of sending your radio communications to the hub where they would then be sent to another node? Or is this just a voip network with no radios involved? -
There shouldn't be "digital repeaters" on GMRS, at least it's highly unlikely to find one. What method are you using to test? Please share specifics, such as the radio model, antenna configuration, where you (the transmitter) are located relative to the repeater, where your listening/test radio is set up, and how it's being monitored. How do you know it's not working? Do you have a positive offset of 5MHz set in CHIRP? Do you have access to a radio that can listen on repeater inputs? For example, if you are using a repeater on 462.5500 (15R, or 1R, or 23R depending on your radio's naming conventions), if you take another radio and set it to listen on 467.5500, do you hear yourself on that radio?

Last week we went up to our local lake for a quick week stay and some fishing.. By brother was out on the Kayak while i was lazy on the lawn chair drinking a beer. He is trying to reach me on the HT but he is breaking up. I get up and walk up a small hill to my left. He says he caught a couple trout and hading back in.. I retreat back to my beer. Well, after coiuple days latter, my legs are itching and oozing. A visit to Urgent Care last night confirms, I have Poison Oak all over my legs. I have never had this crap but i can tell you it is driving me nuts. Hopefully these steroids will kick in.. Dammmmm I remember waling thrugh some small brush on that hill, but was too busy trying to reach out on the radio to be concerned of what i was walking through

THE FCC PERMITS LANGUAGES BESIDES ENGLISH?
WRUU653 replied to JHENRY's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
No. If people who’s ancestors have been here for tens thousands of years want to call themselves Native Americans or First Nations or anything else, I would give them the respect of honoring that. -
A well setup repeater will have battery backup and generator backup power. Granted one still has to be able to get to the repeater site to keep a generator fueled and running. Hurricane Helena is just one example of properly setup repeaters with backup power kept running even when everything else was down. We have battery backup and generator backup at our main repeater site that has our 2m, main 70cm, and GMRS repeaters. So far we have not had to run the generator even in the bad storms with tornadoes.

You're not comprehending the question. I will ask allstar guru's who actually know more. Sorry to have bothered a noob Cheers -
I think he’s just attention seeking.
-
Yes ignoring them is the best as sometimes killing them with kindness only makes them worse. For GuestPG3, you had some sad person messing with you, just ignore them too. As mentioned, police don't use GMRS frequencies.

Which requires a connection to a network, which the FCC has said is prohibited. -
I think his problem lies with misery. Miserable people want everyone around them to feel the same way.. You are right the best way to to deal with miserable people is keep them away and just ignore.

Joeteck replied to Joeteck's question in Technical Discussion
I am not using it for linking. What gave you that idea that I was? We have nodes we created that a bunch of us use to talk on, not RF related. Node to node talking. Like Zello -
Are you close enough to the repeater? Do you have line of site? How far away and what radio set up are you using. How do you know you’re not hitting it?
-
DTCSS, DTCS, DCS, DPL are all the same thing. NN loaded by chirp means the same as N (actually it probably emphasizes the fact that both TX and RX have Normal polarity.

What I don't get from SoCal is, he either says or has strongly implied that pretty much none of us know what we are talking about, always wrong, and a bunch of NotARubicon nut huggers (sorry, Randy. You know I love you).... and, he seems like he's always mad at us. So why the heck is he wasting his time and talent on this forum? I've asked him... but no response. Maybe it's like watching a car crash. Its so horrific that you can't look away. Anyway Guest PG3, just ignore the stupid stuff he says and try to pull something useful out of it. Honestly, recording the experience if it continues to happen and then filing a police report with local PD isn't a terrible idea. You just need some proof it's happening and you may get some traction.
