  2. I have a couple of Motorola DMR radios with several DMR repeated and simplex channels programmed and not one of the have any HAM channels programmed in them. One main reason why I don't is because I am not a licensed HAM and I don't care to be a HAM.
  3. Didn't Know It Was My Turn To Oversee & Correct Your Responses. "Looks Like Someone Got Up On The Wrong Side Of The Bed. Hope You Have A Better Day Tomorrow."
  4. You can start by looking through the attached file. Amateur Radio Guide to DMR.pdf
  5. What's the best way to learn DMR? This question from some holding a GMRS license only. Randy, you have a channel?
  6. Not That Is Too Funny.... You Admit Missing Something On A Post - And Now I'm Supposed To Have Picked Up The Slack & Respond To The Post That You & Others Missed. Really......

  8. I kind of wonder why you didn’t answer any of his questions …
  9. Sorry I missed this, but UncleYoda gave you the right answer. Every person should ID every 15 minutes and at the end of the conversation. Because you are all using the same ID a unit number or name is frequently also used. But to be honest most people just use their names and most people don’t care too much.
  10. CONGRATS on getting your Tech license.
  11. Sir - That Is Awesome..... My Cudo's For Not Being Partially Illiterate In Today's Society..... You Rock........Good Stuff.......
  12. You can give them GMRS approved (certified) radios. (Not HAM radios.) yes (any of the pre-programmed channels) They will need to identify with your call sign (at the end of each conversation, and every 15 mins if longer than that). You can give each one an optional unit number or nickname to tell them apart but the official ID is still required.
  13. So..... Is Anyone Going To Answer All Of Bill's (WSJQ725) Legit Questions ? Or Does He Need To Start Another Forum To Get Complete Answers Aside From Quick Shot Answers ? "Hot Dogs.... Armour Hot Dogs.... What Kinda Of Kids Eat Armour Hot Dogs."
  14. I know about the normal and inverted codes. But there is no option for that on the Midland radio. I opened a help ticket with Midland but of course it will be nexr week before anyone will get back to me.
  15. I took a drive around the block. No luck. I can easily Tx from the HT to the mobile on the repeater channel but not the other way round. I haven't touched the squelch but I'll look at that next.

  17. If God the FCC gave us 50 watt channels, I'm gonna use all 50 watts. Edit: Theoretically. All I have are a bunch of 5W handhelds. But I would if I could!
  18. Allow me to rephrase: Please do not try to make GMRS something that it is not, nor is intended to be.
  19. I still need to get out and give it a try on some of the further repeaters. I really want to give it a try on simplex to see if I can TX/RX further.
  20. Using the lowest power that will do the job goes all the way back to my military and law enforcement careers a good 40 years before I got a ham license.
  21. Make sure you do as @OffRoaderX suggests to prevent desense. Also, with DCS there’s both a normal and inverted codes. Make sure you use the right one. If it doesn’t have an I after the code it’s assumed N. Finally, I recommend leaving the receive squelch tone or code unprogrammed at first. That way you hear everything.
  22. Yes, I am. The Midland does see it as a repeater channel because it has an 'rp' next the channel number.
  23. Very close. I also moved back about 20 feet and still nothing.
  24. No REAL (meaning not H.A.M.s disguised as GMRS users) GMRS users think this or do this..or care.. Please do not drag your H.A.M.s radios dogma into GMRS
  25. Just to expand a little on what @SteveShannon said, it's considered good manners to use the lowest power that will accomplish the mission. If you only need 0.5 watt, use that, but you're not going to be raided by the FCC Police if you use 5 watts. Also, just because you're on one of the higher-power channels, you don't have to use the full power.
