  2. Only "some people" would resurrect a 7 year old dead thread.
  3. walkietalkiesoftware.com should have a link to download the "programming tools" for your radio which contains the firmware and upgrade tool, programming software, and he manual. That's probably "the software" they're talking about. But the download for the H3 Plus (both GMRS and ham) are getting flagged by the Windows virus scanner as having a trojan so I'm not going to go poking around in there. (The non-plus H3 download didn't get picked up by the scanner.) Like @OffRoaderX, it's probably not worth it. They don't publish release notes but I saw somewhere the last H3 (non-plus) firmware fixed something with the airband frequencies that I never use. Looks like the H3 Plus 1.0.29 firmware might be the latest, which lets you edit channel names from the radio and fixed the VFO scan mode to loop correctly. I doubt you'd use VFO Scan mode on a GMRS radio and editing channel names is a nice to have, but not a critical update.

  5. Who knows, maybe. I Jeep Rallys maybe. We usually don't call signs during our introductions nor during our conversations deep in the woods. We are "some people"!
  6. I was responding to the comment that there were no USB-C charging UV-5r batteries. Clearly there are and I provided an example. I bought some of these 3800 mAh batteries. They aren't as long as the ones you linked, which I like because it makes it easier to carry the radio in a pocket.
  7. Good point Offroaderx. No critical issues. Always assumed there is a reason for an update.
  8. The crime rate in Avondale, AZ. depends on where you're at. Avondale Proper is miles from where I'm at and is a depressed area. The area where I'm at is Middle/Upper Middle Class and crime is very low here.
  9. Good luck in trying to modify the -2 radio to operate below the T-Band. It will be virtually impossible to find a buyer that can legally operate in the T-Band on a conventional channel. The T-Band can only be operated legally in 13 metropolitan regions throughout the country.
  10. No, I don't know that name. The class has essentially gone away. I guess it was too expensive for most of the drivers and now they are running Miatas now.
  11. Do you notice any functional difference in tx or rx ability on a radio you've "forced" vs. one that's native to that frequency range? Might be fun to try that out between my 880-1 and this 880-2, if it'll let me program it that way.

Can not register on the Forum

I had the very same issue today. Had to post a question as a guest as it would not let me set up a forum account with my call sign. (I quit using VPN on my laptop because I kept having to re-enter login info due to the changes in my ISP address.)
  13. Is there any specific reason you want to update the firmware? ie; is there some critical issue that is fixed with this update? ..I ask because often (usually) the risk of updating is not worth the reward of updating and us radio experts generally will only apply an update if it fixes a serious/major/real issue that is impacting our radio-lifestyle. TL;dr: you probably dont need to apply the update and should not waste any time trying
  14. I have been unable to update the firmware on my new Tidradio TD H-3 Plus GMRS. I have tried both the ODMaster website (web.odmaster.net) and the Tidradio website (walkietalkies.software.com) using both the USB-C cable and a Kenwood style two-prong communication cable. The OD Master site shows to download the firmware with the two-prong cable but gets stuck initializing the radio. The Tidradio site does nothing with either cable. The OD Master techies are apparently looking into this and suggested I "use the software" to update the firmware but did not indicate which software. Any suggestions?
  15. I want to thank all of you for you help. I fiddle with my cable bit and tried the Radioddity UV-5G setting and it worked. WSJF239
  16. I'm running a MacBook Air (2017) with Catalina v. 10.15.7. I haven't been able to update in in years. this is the version of CHIRP I'm using

  18. According to Google AI: Sounds to me like you need to worry more about your hometown problems and less about "sanctuary cities!"
  19. Thanks but when I purchase more UV-5R batteries for my DMR HT, I am really looking for High Capacity (3800 MAh) that can also charge by USB-C like these [here](https://www.amazon.com/BTECH-BL-5L-Battery-Capacity-BL-5/dp/B07QXT5Z2R)
  20. Which year MacBook Pro? Which version of Mac OS software is running on it? I maintain several older Macs and I probably have an older version of Chirp that supports the UV-5G(X) on one of them. If not, I can research an alternative solution for you.
  21. I have several UV-5r/BF-f8hp batteries that are rechargeable by USB-C, both standard and extended-capacity. Here
  22. The 5RM is a really great radio with a decent feature set. I always say it's more radio than you have a right to expect for the price. However, I recently bought a UV-5RH Pro GPS (not the same radio as the "regular" 5RH Pro), and it has a few extra features. The GPS (obviously) and APRS features may or may not be something you're interested in. The "biggie" for me is that you can sort your channels into "zones" and scan only one bank/zone. For example, you can scan only GMRS channels, or 2 meter channels, or you can designate a bank of favorite channels across more than one frequency band and scan that. Currently, it runs about $10 more than the 5RM. Whether it's worth the difference depends upon whether you want the added features. Edited to add: Yes, you can have the same frequency/channel in more than one bank. I like that.
  23. Sounds like you are running out of options, but here are a few: Are you sure that your CHIRP does not "recognize" the radio, and that it's not a cable/driver issue? Look into running a Windows "VM" on your computer like Parallels - this will let you run Windows which will then let you run Windows software - see if there is a free trail to make sure it all works before paying See if RT Systems will work with that radio and your computer as Mr @SteveShannon suggests Get a new computer
  24. Have you checked with RT Systems to see if their software will program that legacy radio and if so whether their software for that radio is available for your computer?
  25. I can of course, but I like using channel names which require programing software. Just one of my own idiosyncrasies. WSJF239
  26. Why not just program it the manly way, directly on the keypad?
  27. I need programing software to program my Baofeng UV-5G (UV-5X) on an older MacBook computer. The legacy edition of CHIRP won't recognize the radio. My computer is too old to run CHIRP-Plus. The only other choice I have is the Baofeng programing app, but alas that is a Windows program. Is there any other programs that run on a Mac that I can use? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. WSJF 239
