  1. Past hour
  2. No, I meant: Who do you talk to?
  3. you would have learned that if you paid attention of the specifications posted on Baofeng's web site or even Radioditty.
  4. It can get rather technical but 50 watts of non-ionizing radiation is 50 watts. Don't touch a 100 watt light bulb and don't hold on to a 50 watt bulb for too long.
  5. Dont close the door on a Tech license and DMR. It opens up the world to you as well as point to point communications without regard to the inconsistencies of propogation. Keep an open mind. Many do not like to see GMRS as Ham-lite! But I understand your personal use of GMRS
  6. Just watched the second video on the meshtastic device. Wondering if there is a practical distance on them. I have family in central California and I am in southern Cal... I saw that Randy had to do 7 or so node hops to get 30 miles.
  7. Perhaps, pehaps not, but definetley a couple step above it in cost.
  8. I'm honestly only looking at radio as a communication device and not a hobby. That's why I got my GMRS license and didn't bother with HAM. Now that Shaw Butte Repeater is back up I'll have enough range for around town. I just thought it be nice to get more range with DMR.
  9. Today
  10. I am permitted up to 100 watts, I can do any flavor of analog, digital and/or encryption I want, I can link my repeaters, I can use whatever offsets I want for those repeaters, and I can crossband my repeaters using my assigned VHF frequencies, and, i am the only one using all my frequencies within radio range (except for one of them has a small business several miles away). And i do it allll baybee!
  11. Get your Tech license and explore worldwide communications from your easy chair using DMR! This radio, the DM-32, appears to be a big bang for the money; see Randy’s video: https://youtu.be/nl4B0FPMkKc?si=vc4zSyb5Gnz5PP7W
  12. Is your use of your Business/LMR license essentially the same as others use GMRS other than the limitation to your assigned frequency?
  13. Not the one I purchased from AliExpress;,unless there was some keypress or software required to unlock it. I purchased it to see how easy it was to install OpenGD77 and after I discovered it was easy, I gave it away to a new Ham who made a donation to our local repeater organization.
  14. The 1701 is unlocked also.
  15. Randy’s video answered MY question about why the $75 DM-32 over the $50 Dm-1701: The DM-32 comes “unlocked” for use on GMRS and MURS in addition to its Ham capabilities.
  16. I dont not have a H.A.M.s radios license and yet I still use my DMR on my legally and partially private allocated frequencies vested to me by the authority of my FCCs Business/LMR license, which is two-steps above a H.A.M.s radios license.
  17. I've just now saw the you need a HAM license to use DMR.
  18. Oh well.. Watch Randy's videos.. You are allowed. Bye
  19. and we shiould all be in prison
  20. Did you watch this YT before posting it here? With all due respect, it is worthless from the viewpoint of learning anything useful about the DM-32. I wish I could have that 5 minutes of my life back again! When in doubt, watch Randy’s videos and after 30 seconds, I have already learned more about the DM-32 than I did from the other video https://youtu.be/nl4B0FPMkKc?si=f3o05pgHdmCzqdRK
  21. You do realuze this is a Ham Radio digital mode not allowed on GMRS?
  22. Been kicking around the idea of picking up an inexpensive DMR radio to put OpenGD77 on to play with. I'm hitting the YouTubes watching videos to learn what I can before I buy anything. Just wanted to see if anyone else had thought about or was actually using DMR and what they thought about it.
  23. I know there have been some enforcement actions taken by the FCC. I think it all depends on the seriousness and repetitiveness of the interference. I suspect that many of the complaints the FCC receives are from people who are simply jealous that someone else gets away with ignoring rules that they follow. Most of those complaints should be ignored. The behavior described by @WRUE951 exceeds that threshold in my opinion. If necessary a call to a U.S. senator or representative could help.
  24. You know, every radio is illegal, if you use it wrong enough...
  25. you describe a Baofeng UV 25 or or UV 21 with one cavoite,, your stuck with they key pad
  26. I have various models of Baofengs, Retevis, RadTels, and Wouxuns. Each has some features the others don't, but none have all. I wish someone would make a radio with the features listed below (roughly in order of preference). If such a radio exists, please let me know. [_] Chirp programmable [_] 10+ character customizable channel names (sorry Midland) [_] No keypad (just a handful of buttons: front panel, programmable sidekeys, etc. for less technical users.) [_] 24+ memory slots capable of storing GMRS repeater frequencies and split-tones (100+ channel memory slots overall) [_] Display readable in full sun, with adjustable backlight for night-time. [_] Dual-Band/Dual-Watch Rx VHF & UHF (for analog fire/safety, HAM, Marine, etc) [_] "Zones": allowing you to group channels by user need. (e.g. only GMRS, only HAM, only your town, neighboring towns, etc) [_] at least 4 zones, each capable of storing at least 20 channels [_] switch zones by one key press [_] USB-C charging on the battery [_] Drop-in desk cradle for charging [_] BNC or SMA antenna connector [_] IP54 or better rating for dust/water protection [_] Scanner with [_] scan within zone, or across all memory channels [_] temporary channel lockout [_] 5+ watts Tx output at 462-468 MHz [_] Channel KNOB (preferably with 16 to 20 clearly marked stops) [_] Rx AM Air band [_] NOAA with "SAME" alerting technology [_] FCC Type Certified for GMRS Features I don't care about: [_] GPS (esp. w/ proprietary sharing of that info) [_] DTMF [_] Man-Down/Lone-worker function [_] Broadcast FM radio reception The Wouxun KG-935 gets close, and I really like it. However, the 10-key pad isn't really a necessity. It means the "useful" buttons have to be small in order to fit the space, and they add potential for non-technical user error. The KG-905G Plus appears to have the button set I want, but it doesn't tick enough of the other boxes. Any suggestions?
