Something good the guy in the video did was look up the repeater call sign to see if the info on repeaterbook was current or not. If you watched the video you'd see that the CC of 1 was wrong and the current CC was actually 4. I have 2 or 3 DMR repeaters that I can use locally and a few others that are out of my area but places I may travel to that I'll probably add. It really isn't much different from analog, just more steps to get to where you want to be. If you take each step in a logical order and not get ahead of yourself then is should work out ok.

If the repeater had a DTMF decoder you'd put it on BOT and have that along with the repeater tone for double security.

Can the PTT-ID (or similar) be detected by the repeater and used as a filter, like a tone? If so it would be a one way to limit access on a private repeater used by a small community -- would not work for something large as the ID would eventually get passed around.

I bought one about a year ago. I had it replaced because it was going through some weird power on-off cycle when he PTT was pushed, but the replacement has worked fine. It was on sale for $5 less than the 20 and had good reviews (thanks Randy) and a few more features.

The problem I have mostly is discovering what talk groups are supported. There is no central database for DMR repeaters that has this info. Usual you need to search on line for a web site for the repeater, if one even exists. Then, what info you do find is likely outdated, talk groups no longer supported, new ones added and which of the bunch of DMR networks it connects too for linking etc. For some repeaters the setup is fairly simple, others it's a huge PIA. See attached file for an example. The best practice I found, if your radio supports it, is grouping everything by repeater in a zone for just that repeater. Then one channel memory is programmed for the particular parameters required for one talk group. You can have a few to dozens of entries for just one repeater. See attached photos. By “silent RX” do you mean the LED is coming on but you don’t hear any audio or do you mean you hear the carrier but there’s no voice? Keep in mind that not only repeaters transmit on 462.625 MHz but also people using simplex channel 18 for both FRS and GMRS.

Good morning. I am trying to set up my data bank for repeaters that I use/may use I Am in Quincy/milton mass area and I am getting a silent rx from some .625 repeater (I am using midland mobile mxt 15watt with midland roof antenna. ) I can't find any influence info on any repeaters on the what might be sending this phantom signal...oh...btw... test freq reception at granite links golf... way up high above boston. Some types of radios are nearly impossible to find. I don't blame you for keeping it.

Any idea on actual output power in the 900 MHz band? I always scoff at the handhelds claiming 8 Watts, in a radio that size.....and when tested it is only 3-4 Watts and then drops off quickly to something a lot less than that. I like the displays and the layout of the radios though. Seem a lot like my Anytone 878 variant.

DMR ID/check I also need the frequency TX/RX of the Repeater I'll be using and I can get the Talkgroup/CC/TS from the Repeater info. Zone will be named "Digital" in my radio. I'm going to watch a couple videos to get more of a handle on things. This one looks pretty good at explaining things.

yes, you are right. how you write your add is the trick..Avoid speciic model number keywords because thats what they flag. Better to use detailed pictures with heading like Hytera Repeater instead of Hytera RD982 Repeater. According to my friend, Ebay flags specific Model Numbers basted on the information they get. Doing a serardh for Hytera mobile, transciever, repeaters or land base radios brings up the adds. A little more work for some of us looking for specic equipent but it is what it is.

Don't worry, you'll get used to OffRoaderX (or you can set the forum software to ignore his posts). I think he does this stuff for the attention - after all, "making contact" could be something as innocuous as asking for a radio check.

No, it doesn't. I also looked at the DB-20G. I ultimately went with the 25, not because of the additional power but because of the ability to quickly cycle through four channels instead of only the two available on screen with the 20. We have a dedicated channel for family communication that is always at the top of all of our radios. And then a local repeater under that, a NOAA channel, and then the last one is for simplex channels. If that doesn't matter to you, I'd go with 20, too. But the 25 does look cool and you can have a custom welcome screen.

Adding DMR channels is different from entering analogue. You need 5 things for a digital channel, your DMR ID; a talk group; zone; color code; and time slot. Groups such as Parrot should be also set as a PRIVATE call to avoid blasting the zone with your test message.

Well, I had to dig out my Talkpod A36 Plus cable, the FTDI cables don't work with this radio, but I did get it connected to the CPS and programmed a few analogue channels into it. It hit the 3 repeaters on the White Tanks(about 16 miles as the crow flies)and I made a contact on the Del Web repeater, all be it my TX was weak. This I'd only a 5 watt radio and we have a pretty bad storm moving through so that might be part of it. My 10 watt AR-5RM gets out very clear so the extra power does seem to make a difference. Next step is to add some digital channels to zone 2. I'll need to look them up to see which ones I'm going to want. I've watched some videos that mention adding a Disconnect channel(4000 iirc)and a Parrot (9000?)then the other channels like a World Wide and some local channels. I'll get it figured out. If adding the digital channels is about the same as the analogue ones then it shouldn't be too much trouble. Anyway, just wanted to share.

Does the 5 watt less really make a difference between the 20G Vs the 25G?

I think it’s probably a decent radio but the DB-20G also has 500 memories while the DB-25 has 200 if that’s important to you.

So then we get into the 'redneck rectification' part of it where the owner shows up at the GMRS users home. I was having this discussion about HOA board members and 'enforcement agents' that don't understand the law. Feel that THEY are the law. Or in some cases are a narcissist. You take a state like Florida that is fully in support of stand your ground and Castle Doctrine, and show up to a users house there. So you are one 'get the F out of here' from being trespassed. If you refuse to leave, you are already breaking the law. Criminal trespass is when the police write you a notice. But as soon as the property owner tells you to leave and you refuse, it's trespassing. It's not at a criminal level, but it's still illegal. But you are pissed and they are talking on YOUR repeater. As mentioned above, FCC has jurisdiction, NO ONE ELSE, including police. It's no more trespassing on your repeater than a pilot flying over a road is speeding. So you are really pissed and refuse to leave. Then decide to make threats, or your REALLY dumb and have made threats over the air or some other method of communication that is loggable, record-able and presentable in a court of law. So we now have threats, are on their property and are refusing to leave. GMRS operator is also a gun owner. But your pissed, he's used YOUR repeater. So you approach him in a way that HE believes is threatening... and it all goes to hell quick. You are going to the hospital or worse. You figure you will sue, if you survive. Tapes are played of you threatening him. Other's that were on the repeater are called to the stand to say they heard the threats. You weren't at a neutral location, you were at HIS property / home/ whatever. Key word is HIS. And you after all that approached in a threatening manner. So how mad are you about him being on your 'private repeater' again? HOA people sometimes do similar dumb stuff. It's not gone down this road that I am aware of, but it certainly can and probably will. Point is don't be that guy. Oh yeah, and don't think this means you need to go carrying a gun into this situation. Then you have committed multiple crimes while armed. Most states make all those mid-level crimes felonies. So even if you get your head straight and don't end up shot. You're going to prison, for some time. You convinced it's that important they aren't on your repeater?
