That’l learn ‘em!
-
You should teach them a lesson by putting up your own repeater and letting everyone use it.

Be sure you do the math to figure out the losses in 25 feet of RG8x for the highest frequencies you intend to use. It could be substantial. RG8x is fine for HF, but lossy for 70 cm.

What kind of connector does it have? The ad doesn't specify. From the picture, it looks like a BNC or SMA male. Edit: Never mind. I clicked on another tab and it says it's SMA female.

I'm thinking of something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Dual-Band-Antenna-2m-70cm/dp/B08YWHTHC3 Hooked up with 20-25' of this: https://www.amazon.com/XRDS-RF-Coax-Cable-Coaxial/dp/B0DMNZ9FPJ And this: https://www.amazon.com/Antenna-Adapter-Coaxial-Handheld-Kenwood/dp/B08BCSYDN3 On a tripod I have.
-
Although they are hard to find today and require a bit more strength to hold steady, the 2 meter 5/8ths telescoping antennas offer me quite a bit of “more fars” when I operate HT portable.

I'm in Naples and would love to get in on some NETS. I also have a condo in Milwaukee and this summer have been able to connect to several repeaters there and in Michigan across the lake. I have connected to TRON725Naples with permission and also BONITA575 with permission. Thanks to both owners.

GMRS is not a “public service”. It is a Personal Radio Service. You’re right that people shouldn’t be making a profit from charging to use their repeaters. The regulations allow recovering expenses only.
-
WoW! Ok: I will keep all of that in mind the next time you create a thread about a new radio and make all sorts of dubious claims about it!
-
Agreed, but, they did so knowing that the "airwaves are free." There's a very large group in my area that is currently charging to use their repeaters. I'm wrestling with it because I understand that someone spent significant time and expense to put the repeaters up, but I also realized that GMRS, by definition, is a public service. It seems counterintuitive to me.
-
It seemed...I don't know? Appropriate?

Tie a string to the tip and hoist it into a tree. You'll be surprised. You'll need to look at the POTA website and tell people what frequency you'll be on and when so hunters can find you. {
-
This sounds like fun. I wonder how a 2M 1/2 wave antenna (39"?)on a tripod hooked into one of my 11W HTs would work?

I didn't know we could change our user name. Nice, now I've got my YouTube name as my user name.

The Smiley is shorter than the 701G and works almost as well as the 771G. Definitely works better than the OEM for the H3, just not as well as the 771G At least for my setup

He also owns Towers 575, Mt. Elden, and Signal Peak. I believe he may also have some interest in Towers 600. The problem has been some silly nonsense going on Shaw Butte, Towers 575, and Towers 600. The silly nonsense also goes on simplex when the three repeaters are down. There has been some repeater traffic on Towers 575 the few days, but I believe he changed the tone and only has given the tone information out to his closest friends. I wished the repeater owner would implement a PT-T ID requirement for authorized repeater access like a couple of the repeaters have on the SWCRS.
-
I tried a 5/8 Smiley Rubber Duck and it wasn't as good as the 771 I had. I think I'm going to stick with what I've got for now(see my Power Test video in the Amateur Radio section)and maybe try a 320A later.

LeoG started following Maine GMRS channels? and Best HT Antenna?
-
Nagoya 771G is a fixture on my two Tidradio H3s. I have the Smiley Rubber Duck and if I want a shorter antenna that's what I use.

First off,, what the hell are you expecting out of a $75 DMR Radio?? Sounds like you want to squeeze a Escalade from a Hyndu.. I can tell you the DM32 will give you a lot more Digital/Analog radio then you'll find for twice as much or more. All i can tell you, if the DM32 doesn't fit your size 13 foot, move on.. I'm happy with it. I shared my experience with it. And more to come when i get a chance. You read what i said about it, I'm defiantly NOT going to write a book to try to convince you to buy. You should just go buy the Anytone D87 at 4X's more, but you won't get anything more.. Have Fun.. You jsut need to stick with Open GD..
-
Thought so. Thank you.
-
You'll just need to scan them and see which ones are the most active. Generally Repeater channels get more traffic because they offer longer range over Simplex channels.

Irregardless of where you live, GMRS frequencies are set by the FCCs and have not been changed in forever. TL;dr: NO
