I spent a decade in this Asia too. The one thing I never understood was why they would sometimes do both, using a spelling of their westernized Chinese (etc.) name with such bad phonics that westerners couldn't help but pronounce it wrong. So now they had the 'westernized' name they introduced themselves to you with, the name everyone who hadn't spoken closely with them or been corrected used for them based upon spelling, and their original Asian name. Somehow, we survived the 90s...

When I worked in Taiwan in 1992 that was something almost everyone there did, pick an anglicized name. It wasn’t done to mislead anyone, but rather to make it easier for English speakers to meet them and remember them. In my opinion there were way too many people who fit the mold of the “Ugly American” who couldn’t or wouldn’t even try to remember how Chinese names work. More than once I heard jerks say “Why can’t they have normal names like us?”

What I've noticed with some of these CCR vendors is they use fake American sounding female names for either a Chinese person or an automated bot. With the use of AI increasing, expect more of that.

So far the customer service I've had with my Btech RPT50 has been outstanding. Sent them an email yesterday (Sunday) and it was responded to by a person (Katy) in 10 minutes. I didn't expect a response until sometime today and let them know I was impressed with their quick response. So far the repeater has worked well. Initially I HAD to do an update to get DCS tones and they replaced a defective duplexer that seemed to be with most of the original units. Since then they've had an update to activate the microphone which use to be only a keyboard input device and one other bug fix which did not affect me. Maybe a rough start but that's what happens with lots of gen 1 products.

Baofeng gm15pro shows long antenna included, but not shipped?

Pretty much all my H3s came with 15" antennas. They were flexible enough to be in the relatively square box. They sproinged to life as soon as they were removed from the box. No chance of kinking. But I have no answer for you about you not receiving the antenna that you thought was included. -

this site does not HTML 'loop' it's data so the new version of Excel offers some nifty data swiping tools (Data Transform Import). With a little VBN code you can get & sort almost all data with minimal hassle for offline use. Excel will even format KML tables for you..

not a good idea here in Calif... Too damn hot and dry

its a $2500 fine here but now one cares..

For the most part our police let people be unless there were complaints. And according to the scanner there were very few complaints. Didn't hear any EMS calls for fireworks related injuries either, so that always nice. The one day all states should allow it is July 4th. It's definitely a reason to celebrate.
-
A lot of police patrols were out trying to catch people using them
-
Had a quiet 4th because here where I am at we passed an Ordnance that anyone gets caught with or using illegal fireworks there will be an $1,000 fine that's why it was quiet all night.

one of my RV friends struggles with the ghost antenna when trying to talk to traffic behind him when he is pulling his 5th wheel. His is mounted on his truck roof about 3 inches in front of his third brake light. It works pretty good to the front where there is no blockage or line of site. I have a midland whip mounted on the roof and don't have those same issues..

In recent years we have had a couple of people get in from the Wilkes Barre area, Selingsgrove and up near Tioga County. Where else have people been able to get into the Williamsport 675?

Chirp - Question (Newbie to programming)
SteveShannon replied to WSEZ969's topic in General Discussion
Some radios allow “selective calling” where you can send a code to one specific radio and it will listen while other radios ignore you. -
Can anyone tell me what we would use this programming screen for inside CHIRP ? Can you give an example and purpose
-
With both of these two antennae, I am able to hit a GMRS Repeater on Mt Lemmon near Tucson from Sun City West that is northwest of Phoenix. The air miles between the two points is at least 110 miles. The Larsen Glass-mount antenna is connected to a Motorola XTL5000 remote with 48 watts and the Laird Phantom is connected to a Motorola XPR5550e with 44 watts.
