  1. Past hour
  2. Does anyone know if I can order a new backlight for this product? The radio works fine but I can only see the display if I shine a flashlight on it.
  3. Hell yes, you will defiantly get some attention.. Think i would rather spend my money a few radios thuough ... I actualy met the caretaker lady that lived in that house at Burro Schimit back in 1982....She had 357's scattered througout her shack house and had one dangling off a rope by her living room easy chair.. she was pretty fiesty
  4. The only person well enough known to be downvoted just because of “who they are” is Randy, and for the most part I don’t think many (if any) people have downvoted him because of that. SoCalGMRS frequently gets downvoted because of how he treats others, not because of who he is. If he stopped treating others that way the downvotes would quickly cease. It’s that simple.
  5. I won't argue that point. But when someone is always negative and/or hateful with every single reply then they are going to get down voted.
  6. For the last 8 years we have lead 1 or 2 groups per year (20-40 Jeeps each group), up Goler Gulch, through Mormon Flat, up to Schmit Tunnel, over to Holland Camp, the Cleanser Mines, then out Last Chance Canyon. For this year's event I am thinking about getting an Air Raid Siren..
  7. To a lot of you I have been absent. Yet I have created a channel on discord for gmrs operators and a few of my cb radio friends. All are welcome to join. Spring and Summer takes up a lot of my time. So it has been a little hard to get on here. But I see all who have joined. I have been busy setting up my cb and gmrs radio shop and or shack. Also I have been working on radios from time to time. Other than that I have been talking on gmrs. Since I still don't have my cb antenna up in the air yet. I am running a 3 element beam for gmrs and a 8 element beam for gmrs. Which they work quite well for my mobile base radio and my gmrs hand helds. You all are more than welcome to create topics on here. https://discord.gg/d43wTMetUk
  8. Today
  9. That must have been during the Timothy Leary days.
  10. And certainly not in social media, the bastion of genteel behavior, patience, and selflessness.
  11. I'm still learning Meshtastic myself, but I don't believe the packets are large enough to carry voice traffic in any usable form (but don't quote me on that). If you wanted to fire off quick messages during gaps in repeater coverage you could use canned messages.
  12. Well not exactly a haunted radio tower (although there is an early 1900's radio antenna on top of it), but the old Pacific Theaters building on Hollywood Blvd. is definitely haunted on the roof. Story is someone jumped off the buildings roof to commit suicide. I got the contract to take care of the cooling and heating systems located on the roof. Stuff happened. Things moved without obvious external effect. Sounds (including a scream) would burst forth without cause. Then there was the just freaky way you felt up there. Maybe if there are abandoned radio tower around, they are abandoned for good reason.
  13. The Pinnacles is pretty cool.. Lots of really cool areas around here.. I'm sure you've checked out Burro Schmit Tunnel.
  14. On the internet? Surely, you jest. No one would ever do that...
  15. Yesterday
  16. You are correct sir.. We try to get up to Garlock/Last Chance Canyon 1 or 2 times a year but we've only been in that area you specified once, 7 or 8 years ago, after checking out The Pinnacles.
  17. Or hoarded by Crown Castle or another monopoly.
  18. Near Ridgecrest, about 3 miles from Hwy 395. 35°33'25.52"N 117°42'14.92"W. I think you hang out further south by Garlock and Randsburg.
  19. Isn't it chaos already when people's posts are being downvoted just because of who they are? IMO, that violates the rules anyway.
  20. Only in your mind. I was commenting on the setting being available in the software. It's there, that's it. I will test it when I feel confident again in Chirp not messing the radio up. You still don't understand that this is different than fully open. Fully opening makes it a non-compliant radio. Just putting in other GMRS frequencies at the appropriate power level does not. But you can't seem to grasp the difference so I'm done with this.
  21. You spelled SUPERStar wrong..
  22. i too would like to know.. if not the exact spot, at least a more generalized location - i'm curious if its one of the areas we ever go to.
  23. Duh! Obviously would be because its haunted!
  24. If it is abandoned, one would think there is a legitimate reason why it is abandoned. Abandoned radio towers are not common.
  25. Sounds like one of those weird cults to me. Where did this cult gathering happen? I wanna make sure that I don't get near their Koolaid.
  26. Well, I just got excited and all, ya know! GOT to be careful my one and only Jeep Ducky didn't run off with them watermelons seeds fly 'bout! I edited best I could even with my legs crossed so tight well to kept from peeing myself! Jeeping and watermelon eating jus' gets me all worked up!
  27. Pretty much every single 50 watt GMRS or amateur radio is going to pull between 10 and 15 amps on transmit when set to high power. Read the specifications in the manual that came with your radio to be sure. I personally would not want to be pulling a 10 amp draw all of the time on a 10 amp fuse/circuit.
