Is there any specific reason you want to update the firmware? ie; is there some critical issue that is fixed with this update? ..I ask because often (usually) the risk of updating is not worth the reward of updating and us radio experts generally will only apply an update if it fixes a serious/major/real issue that is impacting our radio-lifestyle. TL;dr: you probably dont need to apply the update and should not waste any time trying

I have been unable to update the firmware on my new Tidradio TD H-3 Plus GMRS. I have tried both the ODMaster website (web.odmaster.net) and the Tidradio website (walkietalkies.software.com) using both the USB-C cable and a Kenwood style two-prong communication cable. The OD Master site shows to download the firmware with the two-prong cable but gets stuck initializing the radio. The Tidradio site does nothing with either cable. The OD Master techies are apparently looking into this and suggested I "use the software" to update the firmware but did not indicate which software. Any suggestions?

Which year MacBook Pro? Which version of Mac OS software is running on it? I maintain several older Macs and I probably have an older version of Chirp that supports the UV-5G(X) on one of them. If not, I can research an alternative solution for you.

The 5RM is a really great radio with a decent feature set. I always say it's more radio than you have a right to expect for the price. However, I recently bought a UV-5RH Pro GPS (not the same radio as the "regular" 5RH Pro), and it has a few extra features. The GPS (obviously) and APRS features may or may not be something you're interested in. The "biggie" for me is that you can sort your channels into "zones" and scan only one bank/zone. For example, you can scan only GMRS channels, or 2 meter channels, or you can designate a bank of favorite channels across more than one frequency band and scan that. Currently, it runs about $10 more than the 5RM. Whether it's worth the difference depends upon whether you want the added features. Edited to add: Yes, you can have the same frequency/channel in more than one bank. I like that.

Sounds like you are running out of options, but here are a few: Are you sure that your CHIRP does not "recognize" the radio, and that it's not a cable/driver issue? Look into running a Windows "VM" on your computer like Parallels - this will let you run Windows which will then let you run Windows software - see if there is a free trail to make sure it all works before paying See if RT Systems will work with that radio and your computer as Mr @SteveShannon suggests Get a new computer

Have you checked with RT Systems to see if their software will program that legacy radio and if so whether their software for that radio is available for your computer?

Why not just program it the manly way, directly on the keypad?

I need programing software to program my Baofeng UV-5G (UV-5X) on an older MacBook computer. The legacy edition of CHIRP won't recognize the radio. My computer is too old to run CHIRP-Plus. The only other choice I have is the Baofeng programing app, but alas that is a Windows program. Is there any other programs that run on a Mac that I can use? The issues are the constitutionality of deportation without due process, presumption of guilt (again failure to abide by the constitutional requirements of due process), wholesale “roundups” at locations based on “Hispanic presence”, etc. I would go further except I wish to respect the forum rules against debating politics. And don’t get me wrong; I wish to see actual criminals and criminal behavior punished after due process. But none of those issues imply that a person who disagrees with you and your beliefs is stupid. In fact many of them are pretty intelligent.

So what do you think "the issues" are? Anyone who thinks it's ok to shelter criminals is totally on the wrong side of things. It doesn't matter where they're from, they either go to prison or back to their home country. Protecting them in "sanctuary cities" is unacceptable.

As I mentioned, the only way to use a single speaker with the KG-1000G is to use a female stereo to dual mono male y adaptor AND you must also use a true stereo speaker (with left and right speakers) for it to work. The only speaker I got to work and sound good is my Anker rechargeable stereo speaker. One will need to use a true stereo speaker to get it to work with the KG-1000G and have decent sound. I tried a mono to mono y adaptor. While it did work, the volume was very low due in part to the impedance mismatch. The only other radio that I personally own with duel speaker ports is the Icom IC-2730 and you can run one speaker for both sides on port 1 without any issues.

I initially started using USB-powered speakers when I was running an Anysecu WP9900 in the truck. With any non-powered speaker, if I got the volume high enough to hear clearly in my noisy truck, it apparently overwhelmed the radio, and it would turn off and reset. The powered speakers solved that problem and gave me better sound and more volume. There's also a volume knob on the cord, making it easier to adjust the volume, which is not easy to do on the fly with that radio. At the time, I couldn't find a powered single speaker, so I used a pair of small stereo speakers. The radio has a single monoaural output jack, so I used a mono-to-stereo adapter plug and got good sound from both speakers. (I've since found a powered single speaker and I run the radio and the speaker from a battery using a mag-mount antenna on a pizza plate inside the house when there are storms in the area. It works well enough for participating in severe weather nets on a local repeater.) I now have an Anytone AT-5888UV III in the car and it has some weird sort of arrangement for sound. There are two jacks and as best I can figure out, the top one has the main side receiver on one speaker and the secondary on another. It's wonky, though, because the volume on the main is much lower than on the secondary, and I have to turn it up much higher. However, if I switch the main to the other side, then it's too loud on the secondary. The bottom jack has VHF on one side and UHF on the other, which I don't get the logic of at all. I use a stereo-to-mono adapter plug in the lower jack, and I can then just adjust the volume for each side with the knob instead of what band it's on. I tried using small stereo speakers, but that was more confusing to me than having both channels in the same speaker; plus, it was kind of a pain to find places to mount two speakers. The Anytone allows you to set it so that the secondary band is muted when the main is transmitting or receiving or only when the main is transmitting, and that works pretty well for me.

I had a leather case speciality made by Leathersmith and I bolted the case on top of the switch panel. You might be able to see it if you expand on the attached picture of the inside. Depending on where I was racing, I used either VHF of UHF in the Astro 25 Digital mode with an XTS portable. I used a Racing Electronics Harness with a PT-T on the steering wheel and Racing Electronics Helmet Kit with their custom molded ear inserts. Since, the body panels were composite I ran with a non-groundplane Antenex NMO mount antenna on the roof. I never had any coverage problems and my crew were using the Otto Behind-the-head headsets with the remote antenna attached to the headset and a XTS portable. I thought about going with a mobile, but I never saw the need. Although, I have been a GMRS licensees since the mid-90s, I never used any GMRS freqs. I used Part 90 freqs I was licensed for in both the VHF and UHF bands.
