  1. Past hour
  2. Our neighborhood (HOA) sent an email announcing the frequency to be used. Simple, if you can compile an email list.
  3. § 95.309 Coordination procedures and other restrictions for operation in certain locations. The operator of a Personal Radio Service station may be required to coordinate operation in advance and/or may be subject to operating restrictions if the station is to be operated in certain locations, described in the following paragraphs in this section. (b) Near a U.S. border or in an area that is or may be subject to an international treaty or agreement. Treaties and agreements may be viewed or downloaded from the FCC Web site: http://www.fcc.gov/ib/sand/agree/. What's "straight forward" about this?
  4. Today
  5. It's fair that there's a lot of gray area in the FCC's rules (just look at the arguments on this forum...), but the Line A thing is pretty straight forward, in that it was a thing and now it's not.
  6. This is how I have our TK-880 radios set up. It seems to work for what I need. I hope this helps. Kenwood TK880 080925 kpg49d.dat
  7. The only thing I noticed, is the "Scan Off-Hook" box is unchecked as depicted in your "Scan Information" menu. I set my TK-880 up as your radio is programmed, with the exception of the Scan off-hook. At first I thought you may have a feature conflict as you have two features with the "Scan" feature selected and that is not the case. Also, I unselected the "Add Scan" box in the Group Edit menu and that was not the case. I was able to enable Scan and have the icon on the display. I am unable to duplicate your particular problem. Some times the TK-880 key assignment buttons go lame. Maybe your "SCN" Key Button is defective. Take the Scan feature off the foot switch feature and assign it to one of the ABCD buttons and see if that is the case. Also, you may be aware, but you can not legally transmit on channels 8-14 from any Part 90 LMR radio unless you can get the transmitter power down below a half of a watt ERP, which more than likely you won't be able to do that with a mobile. Maybe a Part 90 LMR portable may be possible, but not a mobile, unless you used an in-line attenuator.
  8. Truly, the only solution that makes sense is to establish a local organization so they can prepare. If you wait for the need to present itself you’re never going to catch up. That’s like trying to teach a drowning person how to swim. As far as the concern that bad people can read, wouldn’t you want them to? Maybe they’ll go somewhere else.
  9. Neighborhood watch discord group. WhatsApp group. Group text message. Teams chat. E-mail list. There's so many ways to skin this cat. What's this even mean? Why wouldn't fliers or signs work when the rest of society is working?
  10. But there's only one frequency - output - listed.
  11. Flyers (and signs) are a possibility but only when a grid-down crisis starts. There's also a down side to flyers or signs: bad people can read too (well, some). I would have a one page notice ready but be careful who gets it.
  12. If the input and output frequency are the same it should be obvious.
  13. Even if it were determined to be OK, there is no field/value to indicate that it's simplex so that won't work. It could be added in the description, but IMO that wouldn't be obvious enough.
  14. woiuldnt it be easier to include your simplex info in your monthly neighborhood watch flyer.. Outside of your little community, who cares about whats going on there? Just asking for Johny. Jonny wants to know
  15. Normally you have to be sure the group is enabled for scan too. I know on various Kenwood HT’s I can enable, or disable, an entire group for scanning even if all the channels in a group are always marked for scan.
  16. Nope. I'm here too.
  17. Then don't upgrade. Most of them aren't necessary.
  18. Make sure to check/enable “off hook scan” otherwise it wont scan unless the mic is grounded to a metal mic hanger.
  19. Slowly have been learning to program my TK880 v1. I've got it mostly ready to go, all my GMRS channels and repeaters are programmed in. I'm running the latest firmware E4B3. I cannot for the life of me, figure out how to get the radio to scan through any channels. I have them all set to scan add. I have the scan key set to scan and the B Switch set to scn add/del. On the radio if I hit the scan button it just beeps and nothing happens. I don't get the little scan icon to pop up.
  20. Actually I figured it out. You have to click the check box in the KPG software under optional features 2 called "Firmware Programming". Then write it to the radio. Then reboot holding the scan button and it will show the program menu to flash the firmware. Still can't seem to get my scan functionality working but I was able to update the firmware.
  21. For that matter, if Rich would be okay with the idea, why not simply create a repeater on the map, but with the actual information for your simplex Neighborhood Watch Net?
  22. What if the Neighborhood Watch Groups were a type of club and the clubs were added to the map?
  23. WSGI699 Were you ever able to figure out how to get the radio into program mode? Mine is doing the same thing. I can program it with KPG-49G but when I look online I'm missing features and the scan functionality doesnt work on mine. I can't even look up the firmware/baud. When I try using the above hex file LSscott shared FPro doesnt do anything. It "writes" but nothing happens on the radio.
  24. I checked into Clubs when you suggested it before. My impression without doing it, just viewing them, is it won't work well. From what I can tell, most people only use the repeater lookup, not the forum or clubs. I know from the forum, very few locals are active here (can't tell who is lurking).
