  1. Past hour
  2. I'm not saying you can't be charged if you change your credit card number. I'm saying your financial institution can't deduct from your account if you tell them not to. If they do, they are liable. I've always notified my bank when I stop an auto pay. Maybe it's unnecessary and all the companies I have dealt with are open and above board. It's your money, take charge of it.
  3. Today
  4. It's actually not all that difficult to look up someone's address without going through the FCC website. The only way to keep all of your information private is to go totally off grid, get rid of any and all computers, phones, never banking or using checks and credit cards, have any public utilities in your name, etc etc. Oh and for those that have served in the US military since 1993, the federal government has your DNA on file. If you have ever had any type of government security clearance, they also have your entire life story on record.
  5. Scrap the idea of using Midland garbage and go with a 1/4 wave NMO mount antenna and drill it in. On the inside of the car gain access to the underneath area of the fiberglass and place a piece of copper foil by using 3M spray adhesive. Make sure your NMO is in good contact with the foil. You won't even see that 1/4 wave whip.
  6. Yes you are going to want some type of metal ground plane. A 12" diameter piece of metal with the antenna mounted in the middle will be enough for GMRS.
  7. Wong.. again... Stalkers, haters, and other radiotards often look up FCC call signs to get home addresses.
  8. I'd get a fiberglass magnet and try that
  9. I've never been asked to produce a copy of either my Amateur or GMRS licenses. I've heard tell of a couple instances of SH's asking to see someone's license before they let them key up their precious Hams radio, but only as hearsay...
  10. If you don’t like my posts there is an ignore function you’re free to use.
  11. I just don’t see the issue. Criminals do not look up fcc call signs. Everyone else already has your info.
  12. I can’t think of any situation that would require the license to be carried on the person.
  13. That’s a ground plane antenna so you’re gonna need 12-18” of steel/aluminum in all directions. If you can’t do that you’re gonna need to find a no ground plane antenna for a lip mount.
  14. The GMRS license does not come with an attached wallet card like the amateur licenses come with. Or at least the copies I downloaded in October 2023 and the additional copy I downloaded a few weeks ago do not have it.
  15. Thanks
  16. The 900MHz spectrum is sort of a garbage patch as it is. That's where the FCC likes to stick unlicensed crap, it's one of the ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) bands. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISM_radio_band
  17. You would think it would be that easy but nope. Read this article https://www.creditcardreviews.com/blog/yes-you-can-be-auto-billed-even-if-you-change-your-card-number
  18. You can only use one channel at a time.
  19. Carry all my FCC certs in my wallet. As said the license has the wallet card on it.
  20. Hams are most liekly loosing 900Mhz and if they dont start using spectrum again they will loose more. They can use narrowband now and many do.
  21. You can get them into cars, motorcycles, shooting sports, etc etc and they won't have money for anything else.
  22. I just uploaded 5 channels on different feq and DTSC codes when the unit is hooked up to the antenna can I use all of them or just 1 channel at a time? Thanks for putting up with me. The book dose not answer my question.
  23. Someone wiser than me once said, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Get them interested in radios, and they'll never have enough money for drugs.
  24. Looking to install midland ghost antenna on c7 z06 corvette. If anyone has any tips to get the antenna in a good spot maybe near the halo or b pillar to keep it up high please chime in.
  25. You should get bank statements monthly. If you read those you should know of any "auto" payments. If you cancel something with an auto payment and get charged again, call your bank. it's an unauthorized debit and the bank will kill it and either reimburse it or claw it back. Companies with auto payments are required to notify you, using the contact info you supply, before withdrawals are made. Why pay for a "service" when all you need to do is read your bank statement?
  26. A couple of things about every forum I participated in. You have to have thick skin or your precious ego will be destroyed. Everyone has and is entitled to, even if they don't share mine and are wrong, opinions. And sweating the small stuff is not only fun but educational. Life is full of mystery and controversy. Embrace them.
  27. This is a topic you could search for hours on and not come up with a clearly definitive answer. In fact, there's almost no argument, even. The advantages and disadvantages of each are so minor people don't really seem to be all that passionate about it. CTCSS will behave with older equipment that doesn't support DCS. But who are we protecting? There aren't a lot of people operating 20 year old blister pack GMRS radios lacking DCS support on repeaters. Both are subaudable tones or sequences that have to be filtered out by the radio's high pass filter. Both have different reasons for behaving a little oddly at fringe-reception areas. DCS *may* take a little longer for the sequence to be transmitted completely enough for a radio to open squelch, but we're talking tenths of a second at most. CTCSS may be a little more crowded (you may have a slightly harder time finding a channel and tone pair that isn't in use). But the fact that we have both systems really is a product of the evolution of marketing bullet points from vendors. One or more vendors claimed they had a new and improved system, and they pushed it to the point that it gained adoption. But the fact that DCS and CTCSS have continued to co-exist for decades, filling the exact same purpose, without a clear winner pushing the other out of the way kind of indicates there's not a clear winner.
