If you use FB on your phone its tracking you as well, Google maps keep track of your locations as well.
-
Yes this is correct, the continuous pinging was put into effect back in mid 90's early 2000's for the purpose of 911 being able to get your location if you were calling for help. The only way to stop it is to take your battery out. even powering it off will still send an LNL(last known location) ping just before its fully off.

Open to suggestions. The criteria: 2m, 70cm, GMRS. Acceptable SWR with a lip-mount with its inadequate ground plane (pictured in my original post). Mobile NMO mount I have the following, already: Laird/TE B4505CN - GMRS only, no ground plane required. Works great in that application. 5dBi gain. MXTA26 - GMRS only, prefers a decent ground plane to achieve reasonable SWR. 6dBi gain. MXTA25 (ghost) - GMRS only, ground plane preferred to achieve <2.4SWR. 3dBi gain. HYS-1T - GMRS only, 3dBi gain, ground plane required for reasonable SWR. Comet CA2X4SR-NMO - 2m, 70cm, GMRS. Fantastic with a good ground plane. Poor SWR with an inferior ground plane. I don't mind buying the right thing for my application. The Larson NMO2/70B seems to check the boxes, but if there's something better I'm overlooking please let me know.

I have a DB-25-G... it is good, but it really works best using it on one channel at a time instead of trying to monitor all 4 that it can at a time. (sort of)... I don't like how it auto jumps to last channel it got activity on (even if it is signal that is squelched out because of the tones you have on that frequency/channel). It's interface is annoying if you are monitoring more than one channel because that. it can switch the channel you transmit on right before you reply and that is really stinks. and switching from multi channel monitoring would be better if you had a single keypress to do it... but you haev to do about 3 or four things in a specific order to do that so... yeah. Mostly menu / interface software that I don't like on it.

Yeah, toting around an HT with a 5 foot antenna is a little annoying! FRS is a little more convenient and less obvious when you are walking around.

What would generate a Morse code ident on channel 6?

Continuous Wave, but I'm sure you knew that lol! -

They Are solid antennas, although there are Better models out there for the 2m/70cm bands.

If they understand how radios work and want a handheld, then this is probably true.. You can get 10X - 100x or more farz with an FRS radio than you can with an FM CB handheld with the same-size antenna..
-
As far as I can determine, exactly nobody in the US uses FM CB. I would think FM with PL tones would be very good for people traveling in a group. Perhaps they just get FRS radios.
-
Apparently people rat themselves out via social media pretty frequently. You'd think they'd know better after a few of them got busted, but they keep doing it.

LeoG started following BAOFENG UV-5RM PROGRAM A/B BAND SELECT SEPARATLEY

Just program them in groups. 1-100 is GMRS and 101-200 is MURS or whatever. That way you don't need to remember a weird channel number. Always starts from 1 and goes to 100. Just ignore the 100 on the MURS.

The NMO2/70B is the only antenna I will ever use. Both my motorcycles and truck have them and they are excellent performers. I had one trunk lip mounted on the front hood of my Lincoln and it performed great eventhough some people said it should not. I would recommend this antenna if you want the best long range communications oj any vehicle. Oh, and SWR is under 2.1:1 on GMRS.

This guy might have busted himself https://rumble.com/v6uoh8p-nyc-riots-paid-protester-comes-forward.html This guy definitely did, with a smile on his face at that. https://rumble.com/v6uoh6v-la-riots-paid-protester-comes-forward.html

I have no experience with the DB25-G, but many here complaint about it. There is also the strangely confusingly branded DB25-D DMR mini-mobile that also has DMR capabilities in a mini-mobile with cigarette lighter plug functionality at a budget price.
-
i wonder how many of them actually get busted via their own on line posted videos. Funny as hell
-
When their phone is smarter than they are... well.. there you go.
-
Apparently,, many 'smart' people in these riots committing crimes are being busted by their own phones Investigators are using StingRay and online videos to place criminals at a location then using that data to find, through cell records, who they are.. Pretty clever and funny

I'm wondering if anyone has used the Larson NMO2/70B, and if they have an antenna scan from it mounted in a hood-edge location. It's supposed to be 1/2 wave at 2m, colinear in 70cm. I'm looking to see SWR curves that cover amateur 2m, 70cm, and GMRS. My Comet CA2X4SR isn't going to do it because of my mount location. Its SWR gets out of hand in weird ways. ...and the antenna in the picture is a Laird/TE B4505CN, which is a great match in GMRS, and even extends into upper 70cm alright, but has an unusable SWR in 2m. If there are other options to consider I'm curious to hear.

I think you are giving too much credit to these "peaceful protesters" there in LA. Of course their phones are on. How else are they going to live stream their peaceful protest on Facebook or TikTok? I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually using the Zello app though. It was in heavy use during the Jan. 6 event in DC. After that, Zello removed the search option for finding channels. But if you know the channel name, or if someone is sharing the QR code there on the ground, it's easy for several thousands to be added to a channel.
