Mine happen at any time during the day and night. Usually more during the day. Seems to wane at night and weekends so I think it's more business related than anything else. It makes it very hard to use my scan function because it gets stuck on the noise even when it's squelched.

No kidding, though, I really like it. It has everything I like about the 5RM with a couple of extra features. The screen is still impossible to read in bright sunlight, though.

Goddamn it, it sure as hell does. A quick look at the amazon link made it look like it was broadcast AM/FM radio, not VHF AM / FM.

I think it does. I'm not sure because I'm not interested in listening to air bands. Edited to add: It's advertised as receiving AM 108-136 MHz. Does that cover the air band?

It was the bank scanning that decided me. I really like the 5RM. The lack of banks was one of my few complaints about it. The 5RM is still useful for most of my purposes, and will get plenty of use, but there are occasions when the bank scanning will be nice to have.

Those aren't "repeater" tones. Sometimes there's uses for tones in simplex comms. In fact, if I'm in a group traveling together, we almost always have tones in the radios so we're not hearing anyone else who may be making noise on the radio. But yes, your normal channels 15-22 will be simplex on most GMRS radios, and then 23-30 will be your repeater channels, then you'll be able to program in some 'DIY' channels (usually repeaters, is the idea) in the additional space.

There are all kinds of rules and even laws where breaches will be ignored or forgiven when it's done for a legitimate emergency. Which is a perfectly reasonable approach, IMO.

It's happening again right now, and it is coming through on channel 15 with no codes set, channel 15 with a CTCSS tone set, and my repeater channel with a digital code set. Very mystifying. I haven't heard it all day until now. I'll start making notes to see if it usually occurs at the same time in the evening.

its very simple: Select channel "REPEATER 17" (it may also be listed as Channel 24, or Repeater 24) In the menu find the CTCSS/CTC TRANSMIT/TX setting and select 107.2 Forget about the output tone for now as its optional and will just confuckulate you Save the change Push the talk button, and enjoy using the repeater.

Yah.. My idea is that Windows sucks and this is almost certainly a driver/port/Windows-sucks type issue. In the Midland software is there an option to manually select the port and have you tried changing it? ...on the bright side, if you can't get it to work, its really not that difficult to program it manually.

I have an MXT500 and am having issues programming it. I've tried two different USB cables, two different ports on my laptop. I've enabled USB Programming, but when I try to read the configuration, it can't find the port. I'm running Windows 11 Pro with all the updates. Any ideas?

I just bought a pair of these radios for outdoor purposes and I am trying to connect to a repeater. I can't make heads or tails of it truthfully and need help. Repeater information: Frequency is 462.600 Input tone is 107.2 Output tone is 107.2 No permission required, the info is available to anyone on the map. I am looking to program it, but again I feel like I took off a bit more than I can chew. I am certainly a newbie at this. Thanks for the help!

KrakenRF uses a unique technology which bends time and space to allow tracking of signals that were transmitted up to several days ago. By allowing repeated trips back to the time these transmissions were made, KrakenRF makes tracking of even single brief transmissions easy.

Two issues here: Mustering the posse and/or just getting the Kraken antenna array setup on the car and getting said car to your general location can take time -you could very well be long gone by then If you are SMART about it, keying only a few seconds at a time, then moving, it would be very difficult - if you only did it 2 or 3 times, it could event be impossible.. BUT - if you are having an ongoing conversation, even while driving or as in the case of the guy that I caught jamming one of our repeaters, continuously keying while driving, it gets easier. TL;dr: If you're smart, its nearly impossible.. If you're an idiot that thinks you are immune to being caught, it gets easier when using a Kraken. Luckily all of our repeater jammers have been idiots.

I figured this out: Channels 15-22 are set to GMRS frequencies and you can enter a tone for the repeaters, but you are talking simplex so the repeater does you no good. To access a repeater you must be between Radioddity's channels 23 - 40.

Ok, so I can clearly understand this, if I was driving around and I key up for about 30 seconds and no more than 60 seconds and the Sad Ham's Kracken pin points my location at that time, and I am still driving down the Boulevard and I keyed again a 1/4 or 1/2 mile down the road for another 30-60 seconds, and key again briefly some distance away and then stop keying, how would this Sad Ham be able to figure out who I was after I stop keying? Just curious how would they be able to continue the tracking after the keying stops. I likely doubt that anyone could muster up a posse that quick and go search for the person that was just keying briefly a few times and stopped keying.
