  2. Today
  3. Yes, Sir. We went there specifically to run Bee Line. It was a great trip. We will be back on August 9 for a club trip. I am heading back to Uwharrie in October. I am going to try to hit Good Evening Ranch soon, too.
  4. Assume you mean AOAA in PA ? We will be there this weekend for Jeep Jamboree. Got home from Uhwarrie last night and had enough time to pressue wash semi clean to head north Wednesday night.
  5. The radio is going out of lock most likely. There is a slim chance you could retune the vco if you have a service monitor and manual but sometimes there are componants that need changed as well. As suggested best bet is to sell the unit and get one in the lower split.
  6. Thanks for the kind words! I monitor the various Facebook groups as well as forums like this to collect bug reports and requests for new features. Reproducibly bugs get fixed, enhancement requests get looked at and if they would provide a feature useful to many users, they'll show up in a firmware update as well. Things like the "wink" of the LED to let you know that the radio is still scanning after the screen blanks, the enhanced functions on the side keys, etc. are all from user requests. And you get official firmware updates (with the update tool built into the CPS, and in English!) and real support if anything goes wrong. And most of these enhancements are unique to BTECH and you won't see them on regular Baofeng models. With most analog Baofeng radios, the firmware your radio shipped with is what you're stuck with, even if there is newer firmware available. Other than things like the UV-17 Pro GPS 1.07 disaster (where the factory's choice was to either release a firmware update or to accept getting the majority of the radios returned as defective) and the 5RH Pro which is still trying to get itself sorted out after 2 board revisions and something like 70 firmware revisions, what you get is what you get.
  7. Just as a side note, my Modified UV-17 Pro GPS CPS and the BF-F8HP Pro CPS were done by "decompiling" the UV-17PG factory CPS starting with 1.2.4d. Earlier ones were done by patching the executable. You don't get any of the comments that were in the original source code, but everything else is there, including variable names. OTOH, trying to do that with a radio firmware file is a different kettle of eels. The CPU in the radio only has 128KB or 256KB of flash memory for its firmware. There's an external serial flash of 1MB or 2MB that stores things like the user configuration, fonts, voices, startup picture, calibration data, etc. - but the CPU can't run code from there - it can only access it as data. The normal Baofeng CPU these days is an ARM Cortex-M4 class CPU in a custom chip with other components, from some some manufacturers you've likely not heard of like Gigadevice/Artery. ARM cross-development toolchains / disassemblers are typically commercial products sold at inflated prices to large-volume purchasers of the CPUs. Some people have made progress using Ghidra, but since some of the parts of the radio firmware are supplied to Baofeng as "binary blobs" from the chip manufacturers, it will be a (steep) uphill struggle to completely decompile the firmware. For one thing, with that tiny amount of space there's no way to include the symbol table, which is one of the things that made decompiling the CPS possible/useful.
  8. Couldn't resist the price so I picked up a couple of these to play around with. Enjoy the video and thanks for watching.
  9. You can go online and just have a random 256 key generated for you. Be aware the DM32 encryption does not work with other brand HT "Motorola/Anytone" for some reason I have tested only other Baofengs that support encryption.
  10. [This guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/DMR/s/atzCq4UpCL) claims he can’t program the DM-32 with an EE degree!
  11. I have to cancel my trip California. I was looking forward to doing some wheeling on the Rubicon Trail and (possibly) wheeling with @OffRoaderX in Southern California... but 2 years in a row, my job has taken priority. I did get out and play on some East Coast trails last weekend. Of course, GMRS was our primary comms method, which was a great asset as always. I'm going to put a full-length video together soon, but wanted to share a teaser video with my radio-dork friends who are also my offroad-dork friends. LoL Mine is the white Gladiator. Can't wait to share the full video.
  12. Test & Tune If any members would like to do some research with their equipment whether it’s long range simplex, short range simplex, repeater hot spots, test something new or breaking out the HT’s for a good range check or which antenna works the best etc. Also, If anyone would like to add a time and day, just have your date and times ready, message me here in MyGMRS.com or get on the repeater contact WSHD977 and I'll take it from there.
  13. TOOOO FUNNY! I know right but here we are. We wouldn't do it if we didn't like it.
  14. Yesterday
  15. The post I saw on the forum today mentioned using Rattlegram to send over the air. But the encryption method was done on some type of computer/phone. Rattlegram just sends the audio to the radio in a modem like sound format. Most non-open encryption, including the one mentioned is prohibited for our use.
  16. Second this, i have 2 vehicles, and have only had time to install a mobile in one of them, when i want to drive the other AND talk to anonymous men on the radio in the other vehicle, i have a mag mount antenna that i hook to a Boofwang ar5rm with a hand mic, crazy part is the range is not all that different with an 8w handheld than it is with my 25w mobile rig... granted both of them are operating on stubby ghost antennas....
  17. I saw a video made by some jeep guy that's on here about this DMR/analog radio and the dirty encryption word was mentioned. I'm not a GI Joe type but it got me to thinking, how would someone generate an AES256 key & then load it into a radio/ this radio? I understand this is for business/LMR use so my question is more for learning purposes. How does it all work?
  18. That's what I did, with the same antenna. A good first-step improvement. I still use it occasionally with a DB25-G.
  19. Same here. I ask permission and offer thanks with a note that I will assume "open" means just that and requires no response from the owner. Long pause... ...due to traffic on Daytona 650, which is permission only. Turns out it was the owner asking for a radio check. We chatted for a while and he said the repeater had been unlisted for a couple years and recently made available via MyGMRS with permission only. Nice guy. This is a great example of asking permission, promising to follow the rules and getting to use someone else's gear. DAB650 has very little traffic. If the SHTF I'll move from wide open Orlando 700 to this little guy because 700 will get swamped.
  20. i completely forgot that was there as well lol
  21. the appendix in the rear gives all the menu shortcut numbers and a brief descriptor of what they do. [it is menu 24 and 25 [one for a/b]
  22. There should be an option in the menu for naming the repeaters, i have my ar-5rm set up this way, witha ll the repeaters names... then it was just changing a setting in the menu of the radio, or in chirp for the name to show instead of the freq...
  23. Oh nice, read through the manual 5 times but must've missed that setting. Thanks!
  24. itll look like this when done..
  25. the uv-5g+ can save in names for channels and the radio itself can change display from freq / channel / name [programmed via chirp] I forget the exact but i think its menu 25 or close to that
  26. Recently got into this hobby and purchased a Boafang UV-5G+. I was planning on adding all of the repeaters within a 100-200 mile radius of me in the event that I would want to use one when travelling throughout my state. I was able to do this with Chirp Next, the only problem now though is I can't tell which repeater is which as there is no descriptor or unique identifier on my screen other than the frequency and transmit tones. I don't have the repeaters memorized either. How many repeaters do you all keep in your memory channels? Do you guys memorize the repeater info when travelling to an area where there are repeaters you want to use? Or do you print out a list and keep it with your radio? Interested to see how others go about this process.
