  1. Past hour
  2. It only plays when you are trying to focus on doing some other work.
  3. Check with frank.scaglione@azgmrs.org and ask him what he did on his Bronco. I believe he has a setup for both GMRS and HAM (2M and 70cm).
  4. The ghost antennas are also ground plane antennas so, no go on any edge so I wouldn’t do that. You will loose 180deg or more of coverage plus more then 90% of your distance. Unless you only want to transmit to one side and a mile or 2. THe antenna you have chosen is a good NGP antenna. Personally id mount it off the spare tire area. Just remember height is might so get it up as high as possible. There are also 48” ones of the same type but may be too tall.
  5. Never mind. I just checked and the Odmaster App does not support the H3 radio.
  6. Today
  7. Hood lip mount with two antennas that you change out depending on the use-case. Day in and day out, use something like the MXTA25 ghost antenna. It's not awesome, but it will never get hung up on your garage door. And then when you head out for a few days (garage is now not an issue), swap over to the MXTA26. They're easy to swap. Another alternative is to go for a half-wave antenna on an NMO mount. Get the hood lip mount for it. The half-wave is going to be shorter than the MXTA26. And a half-wave antenna doesn't need a ground plane. Select one that is marketed as not needing a ground plane.
  8. Me as well i have got it to work a couple of times and last 10 times nothing. I have been tryin for 2 days on different PC's windows 10 I thought it was me. Good luck all
  9. Have you tried the App with the Bluetooth link for programming?
  10. I posted the correct pinout for the extension cable on page 1 of this thread.
  11. Okay, I figured it out. All of the problems were because the frequency counter and CTCSS/DCS decoder functions were enabled. I disabled that and everything started working fine.
  12. Verified by BTWR, this IS the Microphone pinout. They are still waiting on the rest of the wiring stuff from Wouxun because they do repairs.
  13. It seems to be sporadic for me. Sometimes it plays and sometimes it doesn't. Haven't figured out why.
  14. Will do. I think I might have seen that video. I’ll search for it later and watch it. Thanks for the info
  15. I’ve installed Gmrs setups on jeeps before but this is my first time with a Bronco and I’m running into some issues. First issue is that based on the available mounting locations that i would consider (in other words, no bumper or bull bar mount) I’m limited to a 28” antenna. At least if I want to get the bronco in my garage. The only one I can find that meets this criteria is the Midland mxat03 bullbar antenna (ngp, 3db gain). It's like the type the Aussies use. https://midlandusa.com/products/mxat03-3db-bullbar-antenna Possible locations on the Bronco are hood lip (although midland recommends against this due to weight), on the cowl by the A pillar, behind the spare tire and on the bolts for the tailgate hinge. I’ve eliminated cowl and spare tire since with a ground plane antennas those are bad locations due to nearby vertical metal. i have no experience whatsoever with ngp antennas. So what I’m looking for is input on if there are other antennas I’m missing. Is an ngp antenna a good choice? Which location, hood lip or tailgate, is best. I presume with the ground plane antenna the answer would be hood lip but have no clue with ngp. Any other input is welcome.
  16. Firmware updates make me nervous. I take much time researching the issue before I do them. i have not yet bricked a radio, but that is my fear. My concern was not the hijacking of this thread but that a more focused thread will get more replies and information
  17. Some people have had problems with desensitization of the receiving side when they have built repeaters from discrete KG1000 transceivers. Notarubicon @OffRoaderX has a video describing it. Please let us know how it turns out.
  18. I use chirp on a mac m1, for the wouxun kg1000 plus. One thing I have noticed, if the repeater input and output tones are the SAME, and you startoff with "cross" it will set the tone to "tone" then only enter one tone for the xmit, or depending on how you start out, if you set it to TQSL, and there both the same, it will put the single tone on the input squelch column. A little confusing, I kind of see what they are doing, but it takes some reading between the lines. I would much prefer to just set both tones and be done. However I can see the benefit of opening up the recv tone in some situations (how mine is currently defaulted to). If that were the case it would be nice to set the recv tone to "all" so there removes any ambiguity. That would simply mean you would get no "extra" level of filtering on what what xmitted from the repeater, The "gate" to the repeater would simply be depending on what you xmitted to it, to have access. Not to confuse things, but there are times where you have to read between the lines on what chirp is doing. I am going to do some test to set the radio manually on some of these "tones" then download from radio to the computer and see how it comes through.. All the best.. all info is good info... regards
  19. With the exception of the trails near the Mexican border between Yuma and Tucson and well south of Interstate 8, most of our trails in Arizona have GMRS repeater coverage with the addition of Mingus Mtn. recently. Towers 575 is essentially restricted these days but Towers 600 fills in in place of Towers 575. We're pretty fortunate and several of the repeaters are linked for wide area coverage.
  20. So, I just found that if I program the offset frequency and direction in the A/B Channel tab on Chip, I can then change them or enable/disable them. I don't see any way to change the tone settings in the software to 'prime' the setting like I did with the offset. Getting closer, but can still use some help, if anyone knows.
  21. I'm going to try to put together my own repeater. I've ordered 2 1000G Plus and connect them as a repeater, the IASDUP 1037 Duplexer, and the TRAM 1486 antenna with M&P cable. I'm thinking about putting it on my "Car Port" which has a 14' roof and I was going to raise the antenna another 10'. So that would give me 25' in height. I'm at the top of a hill and I believe 25' would be above any structure, except my house which is 32'. The carport is 200' from my house so I shouldn't get much interference. If that doesn't work I'll move it to my house, which I don't want to do. With that as a repeater my handhelds will easily connect to it even if we are in the house (I hope). Time will tell.
  22. Me three. My Inreach is a feature of my Garmin Overlander Nav System with S.O.S. at the touch of a button. The email portion of the Inreach obviously works slick.
  23. I am having an issue with my TD-H3 radios. I read the manual, search the web with 3 different search engines, and no luck finding anything useful. All 3 of them behave the same way, so I think I am doing something wrong. Since they are getting popular for GMRS, I figured I would see if anyone else here had the same problem and resolved it. So, short version, everything works if programmed in Chirp. However, I can't change any offset or tone values if I attempt to set them through the FPP. In VFO mode I cannot configure the CTCSS, DCS, Offset Direction nor Offset values; menu items 10, 11, 12, 13, 23 and 24. When I attempt to set a value, and press the BT/menu button to confirm, the values set back to off/none/0.000/etc. So, here is the odd part... If I use Chirp-Next to program the radio, it programs perfectly and everything works fine. In existing memory channels that have been programmed with Chirp, I can successfully change any of those values. BUT... if I manually save a new memory channel via FPP, I still can't manipulate any of the aforementioned menu items in the new saved item. I have reset the radio several times. This problem exists regardless of if the radio is in Ham, GMRS or Normal mode. I tried enabling and disabling a bunch of other features to see if there is an impact, but nothing seems to matter. When I am planning ahead, this isn't really an issue, but if I am out and about or have an emergency and need to program a repeater into the radio, it's just not possible with the FPP. So, any ideas about what I am doing wrong? Thanks, Spaz
  24. This is actually a VERY good point.. I am The Queen Of GMRS, and even I dont rely on GMRS (or H.A.M.) for emergency communication when out off-roading because 90% of where we go has no Cell,GMRS, or H.A.M. coverage.. I carry a Garmin Inreach, and I too have NEVER had a message not go through.
  25. Yes please! I welcome any assistance!
  26. Sorry, it was not my intention to highjack this thread. My comment about the GM-15 Pro was only meant as a general comment to back up Randy's comment about firmware updates.
  27. I will still suggest using a shielded CAT5/6 cable and shielded RJ45 connector for making extension cables for removing the head. The factory extension cable is shielded and uses shielded RJ45 connectors. Shielded cable and connectors will help keep RFI out of the radio. I have to agree that the overall length is not as critical in this instance. In fact I don't see anyone making a 100 foot, let alone 300 foot, extension cable.
