  2. Quartwave: I have my own GMRS repeater here in my town. That is why this hasn't bothered me that much. I don't need his repeater at all. I use my repeater for business. personal, and just chatting. I have joined the Elk City group. I have talked to there members many many times with no problems. Just seen I have a nack for finding the Aho*les in the world. Thanks everyone for the replies and information.

  3. Traitor. Just kidding... We actually ship direct from Midland for any orders made with us, so your experience and warranty coverage are exactly the same.

  4. I read the specs on the Tera, and what I've found is the thing is set up by default to scan when on channel 16. It is likely that it is in scan mode, and when you transmit, it will stop on whatever channel it was last going past. If you key up the Midland first, the Tera will stop on the frequency it hears, and stay there for a few seconds, thus you can then transmit back to the Midland. The frequency chart for the Tera does not line up with the Midland. Channels 1-7 will be the same, but on the Tera, when on channel 8 or above, you need to add 7 to the channel number to match the Midland. In other words, if the Tera is set to Channel 11, you will be on 462.625, which is channel 18 on the Midland. If you are trying to use channel 16 on the Midland, then set the Tera to channel 9, and you should be able to talk.

    Ham Radio Repeaters

Technically you can talk on any ham frequency you want to as long as you are not interfering with other stations. There are no private frequencies. However, that does not give you permission to turn on the proper PL/DPL and use a repeater without permission. And, if you were to talk simplex on the input frequency you might be accused of deliberate interference. As to "private" repeaters. No, there cannot be a charge simply to use a repeater. However, access to a repeater may be limited to club or group members, and paying dues may be a requirement for membership. So, in that sense, as in GMRS, there are Open and Closed repeaters and they are usually identified as such in repeater listings. However, my best advice to you is that there are a$$holes all over the world, in every field, endeavor and hobby and they are best left undisturbed. This guy you ran into is not representative of the vast majority of hams world-wide. Enjoy the hobby and go find a group/repeater/frequency where there are people interested in talking to you.
