  1. I discovered something new with the MXT400. We now know you can program split tones for repeater use with a programming cable and the software out there now. The discovery is, when using the MXT400 after programming, be very careful not to hit the TS/DCS button on the front panel if you're on a repeater channel using split tones. What happens is with that button which basically toggles thru "no tone" "CTCSS" and "DCS" when using preprogrammed split tones. Sets the radio to either CTCSS or DCS or none. Which in effect puts either the same DCS or CTCSS tone on both the encode and decode and negates the split tone and you have to configure the radio with the software again. Ask me how I know LOL

  2. Talkaround is repeater offset defeat. Uses a preset channel normally used with a repeater (and different transmit and receive frequencies) but directly using the normal receive frequency for both transmit and receive (also known as 'simplex')

  3. I have also had some trouble catching the Morse code identifiers that are used. i did find a couple Morse code decoders that i got from the app store on my phone. They are not exactly accurate but tend to catch better then me trying to wright it down. there is a official standard for Morse code speed but i have found that its often sent out much faster or maybe it does not apply for this use. the real trick is to have your phone open and ready to catch the broadcast.

    Radio programming - zones

Zones are for, as you have done, sorting channels into groups. I have set Zone 1 as local repeaters, Zone 2 as all repeater channels, Zone 3 for conventional GMRS channels and Zone 4 I added local FD/EMS. as for ID number, many kenwood radios have two ID modes. Fleetsync and MDC1200. If configured the ID number will be send on each transmit, and if you configure your radio correctly, it will display a name when the code is received. These modes will also allow you to page particular users, and even send messages.

  5. This supply will meet all your needs. You can buy an inexpensive multimeter at Harbor Freight and have enough left over to get your antenna. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082TTY3L7/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?pd_rd_i=B082TN889J&pd_rd_w=aAnjW&pf_rd_p=7d37a48b-2b1a-4373-8c1a-bdcc5da66be9&pd_rd_wg=U3xPt&pf_rd_r=8TN3JZQQQ83GBPR3PBNR&pd_rd_r=c136a1c9-166b-4c81-9433-d7c27f808772&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExODlPQVdDQ1JLTVJLJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTQzNzQ4MTRSRUcxUFNTWUM0QSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzYzOTU0MkQ3NjJFRDdCWllBQSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbCZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1

  6. In general terms, it is at the discretion of repeater system owners to list their equipment in any such web location that they choose and to maintain up to date details as posted in the various databases. Since it is the owner's responsibility to maintain up to date details or to remove any listings that are no longer active, the databases are only as good as the information the owners supply or delete.
