That comment added nothing to your post. And further, what is the point of bringing up your personal opinion about something that has nothing to do with GMRS radio to begin with. This forum tends to work a lot better when people stay on topic.

  2. SUPERG900 - oh, I know. I was hoping there'd be a ham-like environment around me. Oh well. I edited my previous post for clarity. Some of it didn't even make sense to me and I'm one who wrote it.

Glad I could help. Much like I told another person to leave the "Americans think they are the world" comments out of their posts, I have to agree with Berkinet on his assestment. I think I speak for most people here when I say "nobody here has had a good time during this whole situation..." However, stating that something is over-hyped might not sit well with a random person who reads the post and has had a relative, or dear one die b/c of it. I am pretty certain the situation is not over-hyped for that person. Again, please forgive me if you feel I am trying to overstep on your 1st Amendment, I am not, and you're free to say whatever you want, however, always remember that whatever you say will always have consequences... and especially so in written form. (and I know that well) Cheers! G.

  4. One of them, yes...I forget now if it was the one linked, or their other listing. I honestly debated for a bit on grabbing both pairs. And thank you...I'll see what I can figure out, but I may take you up on that.

  6. Lots of good points and info, thank you. I've backed off the idea of standing up a repeater for now (state of gmrs in my area, and others available), but I hope it builds information (and options) for others to consider. (On a side note, I should be the new owner of a couple evx-539's in a few days)

  7. Here is my review of the 76P. Ergonomically I slightly prefer it over my other radios. It definitely has potential. The problem is the software. It is supposed to be easily programmable through their software and cable. It is not! The password-less software is password protected. Even Retevis customer service does not have the password. I have gone back and forth with CS and they do respond in a timely fashion, but they gave me several passwords to try and they do not work. All I want to do is program channel names into the radio so it is easier for my family to change frequencies. The channel number is tiny and in a corner and hard to see. The GMRS V-1 is light years ahead in programming. The radio itself is good.

I'll be travelling to the US VI soon here. I've been the main supplier of all the in vehicle laptops (Toughbooks) for the police, fire, ems, and for the hospitals. I have some monster meetings and installs coming up (Which I was supposed to go down in March then the over-hyped rona appeared.... But I digress there...). Anyways I'm planning on bringing both a high power (45W) and my hand held to try to make some contacts from my hotel room. I don't know yet when I'm going (probably another couple months here if I had to guess) but I will call out when I do get there! I've enjoyed reading the conversations and thanks for all your input Gman!! I've learned a lot from reading all what you wrote! Very helpful!

  9. Update: Roger from Midland reached out to me. I got it resolved it was a setting that was on its the talkaround "TALK" it needed to be off. Now my r16 and r20 channels are working like a champ. Its now showing the 467.xxx on my SWR meter. Midland has GREAT tech Support. If that was not the problem he was going to give me some software to program it. :)

  11. A lot depends on your *local* community. There's traffic on the Southwest myGMRS net most hours of the day - some hours more than others, and nobody minds responding to a radio check request. We've even had to spill over to a non-networked local repeater on a occasion just to keep myGMRS Southwest open. Best thing I can think of, if you have time on your hands, is to keep that radio on during the day and be an ambassador of sorts - greet new people, say hi, welcome them to GMRS, and all that. They love that, and they come back.

  12. This pandemic makes me spend more time with radios lately and speaking of Repeaters I just put up one last weekend, got a cheap XPR8300 off Ebay and I have EVX-R70 on the way for a cheap too this is not a high end setup like Heliax cable, Celwave duplexers, hundred foot tower and so on I bet anyone would laugh and shake their head if they see it... ...All I want is to cover my usual route of 10 miles around town but right now I got 18 miles which is good I think.

  13. take a look at where the cable plugs into the radio..i noticed it when trying a baofeng speaker mic with the wouxun, there's a rubber gasket around the plugs and the cutouts may be a bit misaligned and in the way of the plugs going all the way in.
