    Input and Output Tones

Input is INto the repeater ... in other words, the tone your radio has to transmit to open the repeater. Output is OUT of the repeater. You can program this into your radio so you will only hear traffic from the repeater since the tone matches. You can also leave the output tone out (or CSQ) but if there is other traffic on that frequency (either another repeater or simplex) you'll hear it.

  2. When you’re looking at the information for a repeater, the Input tone is the tone your radio must transmit to the repeater. The Output tone is the tone the repeater transmits, and which your radio receives. At first, you’re probably better off leaving it blank. That will allow you to hear everything. Once you know your transmissions are being received by the repeater, then you can add a receiver tone to match the repeater‘s Output tone.

This is the first I have heard that they are even partial A-Holes! Thank you for giving me that confirmation. ?

    Multi band mobile radio

You made my point. A few have done exactly that. Yes I know about @OffRoaderX and his predilection about FCC enforcement log proof. What he doesn't tell people the FCC doesn't necessarily put everything in those logs. They can show up, knock on the door, and "advise" you, unofficially, if you continue there will be official action taken. They are not complete A-Holes and will give people a break, but don't publicize it. That's usually enough. I personally know of people where that happen, and no there was no official record of the visit either.

    Multi band mobile radio

True. That however leads to a more "complex" discussion over exactly what is and isn't legal. The confusion is the Part 95E certification, but only is valid when the radio is used in the original locked state to operate on the GMRS allowed frequencies. Some seem to feel that just because it has Part 95E certification doing any kind of mod , hardware - software - mode unlocking, to open up the radio doesn't affect it. That's very likely not true, but some want to pretend it is, and encourage others who have little to no idea to go ahead that it's OK.

  11. I’ve scratched the surface, but that’s all. I bought one of the dongles also. I’m sure it isn’t the quality of my Yaesu transceiver, but for something the size of my index finger it’s amazing!

  12. No, because on GMRS we are normal people speaking normal English.. Speak/talk however you wish, but keep it family friendly. If anyone tries telling you that you "cant" say 10-4, "cant" say "over", or "cant say" anything else, it's just their obsessive-compulsive power-trip showing itself and they should be ignored.

  13. There are actually 22 GMRS frequencies. How did you even pass the FCC GMRS exam?
