On Randy's postings, I've noticed the A.I. statement and never give it much thought about it in the past until today after reading his post above. A.I. is taking jobs away from a lot of people. Today, this fact is very important to me because tomorrow I am having surgery performed on my Right Shoulder and my bones are going to be reversed and this operation is going to be done by an A.I. Robot. I guess the only thing the doctor will be doing is turning the robot on and off. I guess I am fortunate that I no longer have to worry about job security and I am enjoying being jobless for the rest of my life.

It's channels 8-14 that are only a half-watt on transmit power. Channel 7 is allowed 2-watts on a FRS radio and 5 watts on a GMRS radio.

Sometimes, split tones will help minimize your own intermod.

I've used them before. I used them on two different C4 Corvettes. The ones I used before where the Antenna Specialist/Antenex Cellular Look-a-Likes. They were also great antennae and had the trimming adjustment Pot. I never had any difficulty in communicating with them at least I couldn't tell and was never disappointed in their performance.

You mean mount them like this? This was a temp. install that I used on my 23 Wrangler 2Dr "IZARUBICON" while I was waiting for my Larsen Glas-Mount to be delivered.

Not all 675 repeaters uses the National Travel Tone. Some use other tones i.e. the Atlantic City 675 repeater uses 146.2 Hz in/out.

This Motorola mic is a little over 30 years old and still in new like condition and I can still use it on my HT1000, MT2000/MTS2000, and my XTS series radios. It has had a lot of use over the years.

Since, I don't have a need or can I use a radio on 700/800 MHz, and I am not a HAM dude and never will be, and I don't intend to use MURS for anything, I don't think I would ever have a need for a multi-band APX radio. I thought about getting a single band APX radio for UHF just so I can learn about that series a little more but, I just haven't done that yet, maybe on a rainy day when I am bored and want to spend some money for the hell of it. Since, I've had my GMRS license(s) since the early 90s, I guess I am one of those GMRS old dogs and UHF suits me fine.

I always tune for 465 Megs for a decent reading on both 467 and 462 Megs but still take readings on both freqs. I always tune with a RigExpert 650 Antenna Analyzer and then check the entire antenna system with the radio connected with a calibrated Bird Meter and Elements.

Trimming charts are only a Ballpark guess and never cut any antenna short based on the chart. Always use a quality VSWR meter not something that cost around a hundred dollars.
-
Oops, I guess this is a Base Station antenna. I would look into a Laird FG4605 5 dB Omni antenna. No trimming required. If you use quality LMR400 cable and connectors, not that KMR400 crap from Amazon, and keep it around 30 something feet, you'll probably will see low 1 points on the VSWRs, if you only want to do it once and have it last for a long time.
-
What VSWR meter were you using?
-
Agree, if you want a good VSWR on GMRS freqs.

I have bought new Motorola radios and accessories for several decades. I still have those radios and accessories, except for the batteries and the molded earpieces for my earwire kits, that are well over 30 years old and still in good working condition. My latest radios and the associated accessories are the XTL and XTS series. I haven't dived into the APX series yet and the main reason for not diving into the APX portables has to do with the APX series portable accessories are not compatible with my JEDI and Astro Digital Series radios. I am heavily invested in the JEDI and Astro Digital Series audio accessories which are compatible with each other. Also, I do have an investment in both my VISAR and Astro Saber series accessories unfortunately, they are not compatible with anything. I'm not sure if I will go the APX portable series route in the future. I maybe consider the APX mobiles since, I am somewhat there now with the later XTL 2500 and 5000 version mobiles. Since, I have 9 XTL and 1 MCS2000 series mobiles and at least 35 various Motorola model portables, I just don't have a need at the moment to jump into the APX series. And that doesn't include some Midland and one other brand stuff.

You may not want to tune or need to tune but it is important to check the entire antenna system VSWR with a reliable meter after the install to make sure that the antenna system is performing without any faults with the antenna, connectors and/or cable.

You're doing something wrong or you may be out of Tx range from your radio and the repeater. Without specific details on what is happening or not happening and with what, it would be difficult to help.
-
As a radio user you will more than likely never know what the actual difference is in performance will be between the two subject antennae.

Pennsylvania people.. you need to take action now
nokones replied to kidphc's topic in General Discussion
The proposed legislation in Pennsylvania does not target two-way mobile and handheld radio users. If you think it does, you need to reread the proposed bill and point out where it prohibits the use of two-way mobile radios. The proposed legislation is pretty clear with the definitions of what is prohibited/ restricted. -
Avoiding interference building a repeater
nokones replied to WSCV533's question in Technical Discussion
Yes, but the repeater can only have one conversation on the air at the same time. -
Radios such as professional series Motorola and Kenwood are programmed only by proprietary software would meet your requirement. These radios do not have any FPP capabilities.
