Hans thank you for the great advice. I had no idea that there was a difference in the two. or that it was even a thing. I'll let the other guys that I have in mind to do this with me know and we will get going on something. I also need to find a place that will allow a repeater to be placed. this might be an issue as all the raised land around our valley is privately owned and locked down. the only good thing is that if i let the farmers use part of it for their family communications while they are in the fields. but i digress. organization first then we will work on getting the rest of the paperwork finished. thank you to all that have given me some pointers.

Thank you for the help on that and i will look it up as soon as i am able. i am finding that these forums are chalk full of info if you take the time to read down through all the pages. there are many many pages that i am finding. helpful yes but still a daunting task when i only have an hour or so to be on the computer at one time. i multitask a lot......

Hello all, I have looked on here many times in the past year and many things have been helpful. What I am looking for and am having some trouble finding information on, is starting a club. I know that with Ham we need to have at least 4 people to start a club, is it similar to GMRS? if so where do i find the information and requirements on starting one? in the area that I live and work I have a large group that drives and is around the county a lot. the best thing is that this county sits in a large valley and GMRS works well. Thank you in advance for the help.

Very nice going. I took my Tech test a week and a half ago and have not seen anything. I will be going for My General in a couple months. I want to get on the air and play around a little bit. there is a large cluster of repeaters in my area and a lot of chatter all times of the day and night. have a great time and looking forward to maybe contacting a few of you soon. 73

Well i guess that I will be looking at a little bit more for a radio, I really don't want to buy a CR and have to buy one in a year that would be pointless. If I spend the money on a radio that will last i guess it would make better sense than the alternative. I am assuming that Motorola and the like are the better option? I would love an ICOM however we all know that they are also a pain on the pocket. in the long run i can see where everyone is leaning, you get what you pay for. Thank you for the input and I will be waiting to hear from the others.

I found the Zastonete radio for $229 on amazon. I was also looking at the QYT KT-8900D seems to be a semi solid product for $95.00 for a decent starter radio. Would this be an item that could work. I also do not see where it is licensed for Part 95. which is partly a concern for me. Do any of you have an opinion on the QYT products?

Thank you everyone for the input, yes it makes much more sense now that you have worked it out for me. I have just received my Armature Ticket and am awaiting my Call Sign. I may invest in one of these radios for that function. I will still be looking to purchase a good radio for the GMRS side of things so that I may be able to play a little with that as well. again thank you everyone this forum is always interesting and a learning experience. On a side note the radio that I want get would be under the $200 range. and at least 25w. what would you recommend?

well that went fast.. I may be a little bit miss quoting. I believe that it is the DR-635T I was watching about GMRS radios on YouTube. (we all know how accurate that is) and wanted advice from those that actually use the radios. I will re watch them and get back to you... i am looking for a good radio that is reasonably inexpensive that works on both as I have just gotten my Tech Ticket. I will be back soon.

What do any of you know about the Alinco DR 365T being both 2 meter ham and also being part 95/97 compliant with 85 watts? are you aware if it is legal that we use it for GMRS and HAM? I would like to pick one up but I'm starting to get tight on space in my vehicle and am looking for a good (not great) radio to install and be able to use on a local repeater. my Midland is not repeater capable. Logan 5 I am very familiar with solar systems and battery back ups, I have built control boxes both solar and AC for Cellular networks. However I have never build the radio portion. I will be building sometime soon we will see how it works. thank you for the help.

William thank you for the heads up on all of that, and thank you to everyone for the solid advice. I will take it into effect when I start my build.. If it is alright I will post updates, and ask advice as I go along with it.
