WRXB215 reacted to WRUU653 in Programming Retevis RA87 with software
Having someone else’s file unless they are programming the same repeaters will give you an idea of what things look like but won’t be exactly the same as what you need. It would certainly be more helpful if you gave some more info to the problem and shared a screen shot of your chirp file to help diagnose what’s happening. It could be quite a number of things.

"SEO ACCY" refers to a specific fuse, likely within the vehicle's fuse box, that provides power to "Special Equipment Option" accessories. This often includes items like mobile radios for police vehicles or other aftermarket equipment.
I have this slot.
This slot gets no power when the key isn't in the run position.
Trust me I don't doubt your method and I know its sound and proven.
I'm learning so please be patient with me.
The main issue would be testing to make sure that the circuit is not overloaded correct?
Update: Thanks for the "why" question. It led me to do some more research. While theoretically the fuse tap would work it's likely for the radio to overload the circuit. Lesson learned and that came simply from you asking why. I appreciate your response.
Feel free to add any nuggets that you think that might help further.

It is the recommended method for any mobile two-way radio.
Not enough to matter.
Why?

I personally would not try running anything more than a 25 watt radio from the cigarette lighter/accessory port.
I would just run the positive wire to the battery and the ground wire to a good chassis ground.
Anytime you power a transceiver through the vehicle wire harness you take a chance of getting RFI issues.
Now if you are worried about a power drain, you can use a 12v relay that won't power the radio until the vehicle is started.
Here is a diagram showing how to wire a relay.
So you would run a wire from a power source that is only on when the vehicle is running to 86, that will only close the relay switch when the vehicle is started. And you can use a fuse tap for this. You still want to run the radio positive to the battery positive and the radio ground wire to a chassis ground. For the relay, to work, run the radio positive wire to the relay 87 pin and then another wire from the relay pin 30 to the battery.

The cigarette lighter is the worst thing to use, especially for a 50 watt radio.
The lighter port is usually only rated for 10 amp and a 50 watt radio pulls double that on transmit.
Plus there is a greater chance of getting RFI into your vehicle wiring harness that way.
Your best bet is to run the radio positive lead to the battery and the radio negative to a chassis ground. This is especially true if it is a newer vehicle equipped with the battery management system.

WRXB215 reacted to SteveShannon in slight delay on reception of signals
Is the other person using vox? Vox acts upon hearing a sound and as with everything the time it takes to key up can result in the very first sound being lost.
If it’s truly a measurable delay from the time a sound is transmitted until the time it’s received, any humanly discernible delay would not be in RF reception, but delay could easily occur if any digital processing occurs, either at the transmitter or the receiver, or both.
The other thing is that it’s always best to wait half a second after push PTT before speaking.

Yes, we'll take them. That's down near 6m territory.

So you'd need two different radios, or one radio with two different antennas to make use of these and the existing GMRS channels? Does not seem very user-friendly... If they are unused, throw 'em to the H.A.M.s.. they'll use it.. they'll use anything.

WRXB215 got a reaction from SteveShannon in How do I change from low power to high on a repeater channel on a BAOFENG GM-15 Pro?
NO, that just locks the keypad.
Just quick-press the * key to toggle back and forth between High and Low power.

Haters gonna hate. The same guys hate other hams that use or don't use digital modes etc etc. As I've said before, the majority of active members in our local club are just into 2 way radios and don't care which license, band or transmission mode you are into.

They definitely are not legal for GMRS. Every time I try to use mine on GMRS frequencies the FCC helicopter lands nearby to write me a ticket.

WRXB215 reacted to AdmiralCochrane in wondering
Ducting most commonly occurs associated with strong temperature inversions, either the strong night to day change around dawn or along storm fronts. I recall a few years ago consistently hearing a contact in Philadelphia PA for several spring mornings thorough central MD. Other times as storm fronts approached MD, hearing repeaters on Long Island discussing traffic on the LIE.
If the long range signals persist mid day in stretches of calm weather, linking would be the main suspect.

I know a guy here on this forum that regularly/ALWAYS gets 200+ miles on all of his radios.. He apparently does this by purchasing every radio ever made and if it does not get 200+ miles, he just throws it directly into the trash.. All of his "friends" also do the same thing, so this method obviously works.
-
WRXB215 reacted to SteveShannon in wondering
Maybe. Some repeaters have been linked, so it’s possible that’s what you’re hearing, but it’s also possible that you’re receiving them directly via a phenomena called tropospheric ducting, which can cause UHF signals to travel farther than normal distances.

Maryland's cell phone law says "cell phone". Someone got a ticket using his ham radio, took it to court and won. Precedent set, in MD, using a 2 way radio while driving is OK.

WRXB215 reacted to SteveShannon in Propper radio etiquette
That’s how they are here as well, but there are only a handful of us who actually have licenses. The vast majority of GMRS just buy the radios and use them miles away from populated areas. Honestly, that doesn’t bother me a bit. Maybe there shouldn’t be GMRS licensing for handheld use or lower than some wattage level.

WRXB215 reacted to SteveShannon in GMRS club
Call up your friends who use GMRS radios and say “Let’s start a club!”
Then just get together every so often and talk about GMRS radios.
If you want to have a repeater, chip in some money (quite a bit) and put one up.
If you want to solicit donations you’ll want to incorporate as a tax exempt corporation. There’s a fee for that.
Then file a 1023 form with the government to get off to become a 501(c)3. The short form costs $275.

Being within a couple feet of another should have no effect on the finals. I bet that something with the programming resulted in inhibited transmit.

We all value knowledge and experience here, but the way you're treating newcomers is out of line. Everyone starts somewhere, and being dismissive, impatient, or outright rude doesn't make you look more knowledgeable—it just makes this community less welcoming.
If your goal is to actually help people learn and grow, then your attitude needs to reflect that. Otherwise, you're not building anything—you're just gatekeeping. You were new once too. Try to remember that.
