  1. Proprietary, I guess. The programming screen has KG-1000G+ on the upper left and a picture of the 1000G+ on the desktop icon. Leave out the RX tone? Then I won't be able to comm on the programmed RPT stations....why would I want to do that?
  2. I see. I'm programming via software. So, if I put 141.3(the repeater's output PL) in my radio's input and 423 DPL (the repeater's input PL) in my radio's output...I'm good?
  3. Repeater : RX is Output and TX is Input.
  4. Thank you sir. It's hard to wrap my head around. Just can't grasp why even have RX/TX PL tones on channels if someone can still hear you in the open? I mean if I have permission to use say a local RPT 18, with PL tones of RX=Output of 141.3 and a TX=Input of DN432. Nobody should be able to listen or talk w/o these tones.....very confusing. Anyway, I'll chill....thanks to you and the mygmrs community for the patience.
  5. I appreciate this as well. James WRXU693
  6. Dang it man....my head hurts lol. Appreciate the insight.
  7. Thanks 653, Ok. Bottom line....if I hear an ID on simplex it's an "open repeater" because I wouldn't hear it on simplex if it were a "close repeater" with PL tones assigned? Correct?
  8. Got it. But forgive me of my lack of knowing. But how can someone set up a repeater with no PL tones then claim I can't use that channel? If I'm going to spend time and money building a repeater. Then I would think I'd take the extra step and apply PL tones? I don't get it.
  9. I see. But if an owner of a repeater is sending out an ID on open simplex without PL mode....it's open game, right? He doesn't "own channel 20" just because he has the ability to send out an ID on that specific channel. Correct? Also if by chance the repeater does have an assigned RX/TX tone, why is the ID coming through an open simplex channel?
  10. Hey guys, Say I'm hearing a morse code ID on a simplex channel (GMRS 20). That means it's (there's) an open repeater near by? And no RX/TX tones required if I reach on simplex, right? Thanks James WRXU693
  11. Coming from the scanner world. I've quickly learned that the scan rate on a gmrs radio is very, very, very slow. Which is ok. I get it. My question to the group....How do y'all set up scanning on your gmrs radios or do you at all? At my location, it's quiet. So simplex is not scanned, right now. But RPT 15-22 does hear comms. on the base and mobile units. Am I going about this the right way to reach out? Thanks WRXU693 James
  12. Going to press my luck with another question. I was informed after buying two 1000G+ with the good intentions of building a repeater, that I can't use the repeater station as a base unit simultaneously. True? WRXU693 James
  13. Thank you Sir.
  14. First....Take it easy on me. Newie here 1. How do I know I'm reaching (TX) a repeater, other than someone talking back? 2. When programming repeaters in my radio, I see a few have of the repeater sites having the same freq also the same in and out tones. How do I know which repeater I'm listening (RX) to? Thanks WRXU693 James

  16. I don't know. Maybe. Sounds reasonable to me. I'm in the pulmonary stages of setting up. Once I get everything tested (SWR)..... I'll raise the antenna. I just wanted to make sure the RX/TX transceivers are ready. Appreciate it Steve.
  17. Y'all take it easy on me. lol. I've read most of the stickies pertaining to why most new GMRS users immediately want to jump into having a repeater. Guess that's me. Good or bad. Can someone explain to me why I'm not showing the TX icon on my TX transceiver but showing the RX icon on my RX transceiver? Thanks WRXU693
