No I don't have one just my Surecom SW-102. I'm trying to afford things as I can right now. Thanks for the help. I'm to the point I could use some physical help but, I don't know anyone nearby who has time for it or wants to travel this far, even if I pay them.
-
Yeah I checked the entire band it's only a few decimal points between channel 1 and 32.
-
Images of what I have, the Browning LMR-400 cables are a 25' run down the inside of the pole to a lightening arrestor in the ground attached to a 50' to the Radio. Currently, I have the Midland MXTA-26 antenna on it, trying to see if any difference in SWRs, maybe .1-.3 difference.
-
The aforementioned Tram above which is mounted on my flagpole 25' up
-
Since NOONE is bothering to look, the 2 items are ground plane brackets, that I don't believe I even need, other than to attach a cable at one end and antenna on the other. I asked the question before I wasted anymore money on the Nagoya if the result will be the same, I needed a bracket, similar to the Midland MXTA-23 I believe only without a cable attached to mount the antenna more securely to the top of the 25' flagpole I put it on top of. Having gotten my answer with that, I do still have questions as to why I'm still getting the problem as far as the links, most forums will convert links to photos and since there's so many sad hams here I quit coming here for answers and generally look elsewhere. Not able to find what I was looking for for, I posted in the most logical place to ask my question. Other forums will convert posts to visual of items and even those that don't, most people actually at least click on one to know what they're talking about before even posting comments back. Then sad hams aren't part of those forums either
-
I knew who he was talking to. I also know that something's awry with the 4.6 SWR readings. I'm running a tuned Laird B4505CN on top of it. Tuned using a Laird G8 base. I expected it to be off, I didn't expect it to be off that much.

That's right, because you think you're too good to help people just want to complain about them not knowing anything but, don't want to help, just start crap.
-
Did you even look at what I referred to?
-
I hadn't noticed that difference although I would assume that since it claims to cover all three bands without specifically claiming it's only for Ham, it would be sufficient for both. You are correct I don't yet have my ticket, I don't know if I ever will either. Which is why I came to the GMRS specific forum for answers. I wouldn't have thought the mount was actually specifically tuned to different frequencies being a block of metal. Would it actually matter for GMRS, that much? I got the Tram one, when all was assembled, it's getting 4.6+ SWR, I was curious if it was maybe it being defective or what's the possible cause of the problem, reason for my initial query. Also, people aren't born with knowledge you gain it when you ask questions and learn it.
-
Because I have zero need for a big ass antenna nor the eyesore. Besides, I'm already using a Laird antenna, attaching it to the top of a flagpole.
-
Thanks, this is the kind of information I am looking for, what, if any issues did you experience with them? Did they cause higher SWR readings? And how many of them did you go thru, as in had to replace upon purchase?
-
Yellow steel? You mean the brass NMO connector?
-
BEST = Works best, actually gets low SWR readings, you know, a quality product that will last, and actually worth the money...
-
Firstly if this isn't in the correct place, feel free to move it. Secondly, which is the best, the Nagoya or the Tram mount? https://shop.mygmrs.com/collections/antennas/products/nagoya-gpk-01-nmo-ground-plane-mount-kit https://www.buytwowayradios.com/tram-1465.html

If you don't break it off getting there, a flexible whip is better for off-road use. Those were just made to put on rigs for drivers with linears pushing out some megawatts while driving down the highways, where they're unlikely to snap off from trees. -

I've got one in the shed now wasting space... Too bulky you need to have a stout mount for it, it's basically overkill beyond overkill, unless your linear in your truck is pushing like 10kW or something like that. If that's the case, why advertise it?!? -

CyborgAlienWRYG738 replied to CyborgAlienWRYG738's question in Technical Discussion
Yes, it's rated for 100W so it should suffice, if you're going to Wilson's antenna store, not the leather shop, then by all means ask them, they're better informed then me, I don't have that option near here. -

CyborgAlienWRYG738 replied to CyborgAlienWRYG738's question in Technical Discussion
Or the Lil Wil, unless you have a need for the increased power rating . The K40 is made by the same company that makes Wilson antennas and they're the lower quality brand. I believe Stricker is the other brand that's supposed to be better than Wilson but, I wouldn't know, I've always used tried and true Wilson's, due to the 1 K40 I used breaking on me back in the 80s. Wilson's only lose their top thing which seems to make them better, or it has mine anyways, every time. -

The best antenna to do what I'm looking for is the Laird B4505CN with the GR8PI magnet mount. It's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for all the help -

CyborgAlienWRYG738 replied to CyborgAlienWRYG738's question in Technical Discussion
This arguing is what I was trying to avoid with this question, it's really bad when a bunch of sad hams have to try to ruin an experience for someone who is trying to learn, even when they clarify what they're trying to ascertain then get belittled for doing so. This right here is why I'm not sure that I want to get my Technician or anything else above GMRS. The insults need to quit, it gets NOONE anywhere, just makes more people to say fuck it and go do what they want and damn everyone else. Then you end up with all of the bands of radio services to end up like CB. That is if the feds don't just eliminate all of it, altogether. -

Good to know that it's a good antenna and works good for you. I'm definitely going to get one too, as soon as I get the money, until then my Tram is going to have to suffice. Considering how well it is doing. I get really good signals with it SWR on the repeaters is 1.0-1.03 so I don't need anything else for now. When I get my mobile, I will get a new base and that antenna to go with it. I found the perfect base from them too, which has the perfect wiring for the GMRS band -

I have to say, the new Tram mount, the Chrome one, model# 1240, is a much better mount, the antenna I have, also a Tram, model# 1173, I'm getting 1.5 on Chs 1-7, 1.0 on 8-14, 1.5 on 15-22 and 1.0 on all the repeaters using the Surecom Farzometer 2K. I wonder if Randy uses any different settings on his. The old Tram model# 1267 must be for something different. Since I couldn't get a decent SWR with any antenna using it. I'm going to try the Diamond's with it and see if that makes an improvement with them too. It's surprising what a difference a base alone can make, wonder if it's the cable or what? -

If I can get the financing worked out I'm going to see if I can get one as well. Hopefully sooner than later. I'm not sure that things will be the same in the next couple of months, let alone years.
