best ⅝ wave GMRS high gain NMO antenna
CyborgAlienWRYG738 replied to CyborgAlienWRYG738's question in Technical Discussion
I thought Midland used Larson to make that antenna, must've been Motorola I was thinking of. -

Thanks, I was having a problem locating any information on it, not sure if it's my search engines or a setting on my devices I need to change. They're pretty secure. -

I need to find someone to hook up with locally and see if it's my meter or what first. If I can find someone... Being relatively new to my area and GMRS it's difficult. -

The barely, if at all vary. My radio is putting out between 3 and 4.3W not even close to the 5.5 advertised and I've barely had it a month or so. I shouldn't be seeing that much of a diminished return yet. -

There's got to be a way to adjust those. The only one seemingly effected is the High power setting not reaching it's max power. Though I believe it did to begin with before I was able to get an SWR meter to check it with. -

I reset my device, loaded my defaults in ChirpNext and did what I mentioned below first. I noticed an uptick in my tx power but, still not full power. I'm going to have a look at those other settings and see if that does anything as well, I just recently stopped those settings as well I believe but, I'll have to double check to be certain. I also have the default settings in the official Wouxun app, I just have to borrow a Winblows to do it though. I want to do another Reset when I do it though, also, those codes your talking about, are they the same as the reset codes for the device? -

Says the same thing in the KG-UV9P manual that's supposed to be the parent manual for the KG-UV9GX. I did this too, as apparently, from what I read you do it on the affected device. -
You simply won’t get text in a mobile anytime soon. Mobile radios with external antennas are simply not allowed to have digital transmissions. 2. But, base stations are. a. Capable of having an internal antenna. and... b. Allowed to have digital transmissions. All it would take is a digital upgrade to Midlands MTX-511 to make it capable of it. Minus my fantasies about GMRS capabilities. Although, I don't consider that a base, more of an HT.

The BTech GMRS Pro does have both Antennas on it, Stationary for Digital and Removable for GMRS, I'm not as impressed with BTech for anything though and even less for SDR equipment. The requirement I mentioned above was for it to be a mobile, though I forgot to mention that I was using it as a base station, which is wherein the problem lies. Although a Base can have it easily included, see the Midland MTX-511, a Mobile cannot since it would require removable antennas. HT's can have both. Being the MTX-511 is more of an HT than a base and thereby limited in it's power output, I don't understand why one couldn't make one and add a simple removable antenna for the GMRS frequencies and repeaters. Since it isn't a mobile unit made to be mounted in a vehicle AND only has the power output of an HT, or actually less, I believe in that specific model. Not that I expect Midland to do something like that but, they're not the ONLY GMRS manufacturer out there either. I'm sure I wouldn't be the ONLY person who'd buy one if it ever was created...

best ⅝ wave GMRS high gain NMO antenna
CyborgAlienWRYG738 replied to CyborgAlienWRYG738's question in Technical Discussion
I'd rather just use 1 antenna so as to keep the roof as clear of scratches as possible. Most bands are "listen only" just GMRS is transmit band and requires the most gain and best signal response for distance. The rest are relatively local frequencies. -
I'm not worried as much about cost as I am having the best long range NMO no ground plane GMRS antenna I can get, prefer at least ⅝ wave. Nothing under 5db gain and it should also be able to do 2m. A plus if it can do: 136-180 VHF • 219-250 VHF • 350-512 UHF • 700-960 UHF quad-band, with GMRS being the necessity. I've already wasted money on the Diamond and Tram junk, now I'm wanting the best. I'm using a magnet mount, as a necessity as well, albeit I'm open for a better model of it as well. I'm looking for at least 5" magnet for stability. Going on a leased Nissan Rogue, can't be permanent mount.

Yes, I am looking for a mobile that can do it, even if it's a future released product for Christmas... I'm surprised there's not been any announcements as of yet. Surely the crappy Baofeng can't be the only company producing such a beast yet, or coming out with something soon. I'd even settle for a Midland XT-511 update, that can do it, especially if it can also do repeaters and/or have a removable antenna for actual GMRS duties, not just FRS/Digital. I'd even be willing to forgo 2 of the 3 criteria if I can just get it how I mentioned above. "I'm more interested in Bluetooth and the texting capabilities via base than the GPS. Although GPS and Bluetooth would be beneficial via Mobiles too, minus the Texting capabilities, unless they're canned texts or done via Bluetooth TTS."

It's for HT's it's not really meant to be on a Mobile, which I don't plan on using mobile but, as a base. Therefore it doesn't matter, only I'm having a problem finding such a beast even as such, it's more rare than the elusive Sasquatch... The more retarded part of that is the 467 transmit limit, although I can see why, since those are the same as the FRS frequencies. I'm more interested in Bluetooth and the texting capabilities via base than the GPS. Although GPS and Bluetooth would be beneficial via Mobiles too, minus the Texting capabilities, unless they're canned texts or done via Bluetooth TTS. As long as it has Superhets, I'd be willing to make do with a HT, if there were almost anything else other than Baofeng/BTech doing it.

Would a full reset of the device, do anything to improve anything? I have no problem loading up ChirpNext and reinstalling it, if I have to, I just don't want to deal with the hassel if it's not going to help. -

Sorry I hadn't seen that manual until just now... I've been trying to make heads/tails of it. I tried what it suggested in it and haven't noticed any difference. Test results haven't improved either. I also have heavily modified my unit since then too. I no longer use the default PTT-ID or anything to do with it. I'm wondering if the sun-spot activity could have anything to do with it? It's just got me so confused as to why I'm not able to get anything but, repeater tones when I key up, even after others just went "to the side and monitoring"... I'm not able to even get that on some of the other repeaters, even when I'm local to them... Even trying to respond to people who are also trying to get a response when they are doing radio checks, I'm not able to connect with them even though I hear them loud and clear... -

In my 4 page manual, I don't have a page 49, it barely goes to 16, if you fold it 4 ways... -

Somehow, my radio had that, (Menu 22 on the KG-UV9GX,) changed from Off to DT-ANI, so I don't know...
