Another update. RT Systems has released the Mac versions for the following Wouxun models: KG-XS20G/KG-XS20G Plus KG-935G/KG-935G Plus KG-Q10G KG-Q10H KG-1000G/KG-1000G Plus Note: for versions that have a regular and Plus models, there will be two different installers inside the Zip or DMG files. Make sure to select the correct one.

Another good one is the Melowave Shadow. It works just as well as the Midland Ghost. And both work better than the Nagoya UT-72G that I have.

Wouxun KG-1000G Plus Single vs Dual Display question

Doing a factory reset was going to be my next suggestion also. -
Sometimes breaking old habits of using military/police protocols is hard to do. Though I do say "read you Lima Charlie" to mess with people more than out of habit now days.

Glad I was able to help you. I didn't even think about repeater mode since I have never messed with that setting. The radio is set to receive or transmit mode when in repeater mode. -

So the mic button #6 and/or menu #7 work mode aren't working either? -

TDR should work as intended in channel mode. Getting the double beep sure sounds like the radio is locked. I tested the TDR on my KG-100G Plus and the only time I get the double beep is when the radio is locked. Double check menu #47 AUTOLOCK and make sure it is set to off. Other than that, I really don't know what to tell you. I tried duplicating your problem and the only way I get a double beep is when the radio is locked. -
Well Negative Nancy, I will correct myself as far as needing to ID at the beginning of your transmission, That is not required. Everything else I stated IS correct. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-47/chapter-I/subchapter-D/part-95/subpart-E That is directly from the FCC. As you can clearly see I have absolutely no issues admitting to my mistakes and did post the correct information. Now stop being such a negative asshat to everyone.

Is the radio unlocked? Pushing the D button on the radio will also lock and unlock the radio. You will see a key sample on the screen if it is locked. Otherwise TDR should work when you push the #8 button on the mic as long as the radio is not locked. -
Pretty much. Now a couple of us that are veterans will occasionally use military radio protocols just to message with others. In reality, just talk like you would with people in the same room as you. FCC regulations say to ID at the beginning of your conversation, and again at the end of your conversation. You also need to ID every 15 minutes if you are in a long conversation. This is standard procedures when using most repeaters. Most people don't worry about adhering to the ID requirements as much when talking on simplex channels. 100% correct.
-
We keep things pretty simple on our repeater. We want you to ID as required and no cussing since we do have kids that do use the repeater. We aren't going to go after someone for forgetting to ID as often as they should. Other than that, we don't want religion or politics discussed on any of our repeaters simply to keep conversations civil. No one likes listening to grown adults arguing like little kids.

And most phone land lines are now VOIP which is also digital.

Using The Correct Tools For The Job Are Always Essential!!

OUCH!!!! I bet the doctor kicked himself over that. We have an issue with our Motorola Quantar 2m repeater. The inrush when it first transmits will trip the 12v dc to 120v ac inverter. The only way to get around that was to put a line conditioner in between the repeater and the inverter. One of our older club members was trying to catch the inrush to see how many amps it was with an old, but good, analog amp meter. He learned right away that an analog meter was not quick enough to catch the inrush. My new Klein CL800 just barely caught it. We never did find the exact fix for the inverter throwing a ground fault and shutting down when the Quantar firsts transmits. The Tripp Lite power conditioner is the only way to keep that from happening. The weird thing is that our older Motorola 70cm repeater and our Bridgecom GMRS repeater are both plugged into the inverter and there are no issues. -
This is true. When you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.

These types of laws are passed due to the lack of common sense among the general public. I have seen too many people staring at their phones, tablets, or laptops while driving down the road. The worst was a guy on his tablet and reading a newspaper while driving in St Louis morning rush hour traffic. And it is ID10T's like those people that came laws like this o be passed. The federal government threatening to take away funding goes back a long time. They did the same thing to get states to reduce the speed limit to 55 MPH.
-
So you are admitting to being an old curmudgeon? Just kidding with you.
-
Here is an excerpt from the Missouri law. While they do not specifically mention GMRS, they do state that amateur radio and CB is exempt. One could argue that if CB and amateur radios are exempt then so is GMRS. Now I sure would not trie to program a radio while driving. Here is the link for the actual state statute: https://revisor.mo.gov/main/OneSection.aspx?section=304.822

Missouri just enacted a hands free law at the beginning of the year. And they specifically state that amateur radio operators are exempt from the new law. Though no one should be driving distracted. Radios with everything built into the hand mic do have their place and use. A lot of newer vehicles just don't have the room to mount a complete radio or even a good spot for a remote head unit. And there is the factor of wanting to stay discrete with one's radios. These types of radios are not for everyone, but that is okay, variety is the spice of life.

The same goes for capacitors too. Some of the machines I use to work on had banks of 24 to 36 capacitors that were bigger than a soda can. I forgot the actual farad rating for those but it was in the KF range. -
We are using air dielectric hardline.

The guys that installed our 7/8" and 1 1/4" Heliax purged and filled the coax with nitrogen. That has been years ago so no idea if the nitrogen is still in the coax or not.
-
Same here. I find I grab my RigExpert Stick Pro most of the time. A good antenna analyzer is definitely more expensive. I do find that the Stick Pro does most of what I need and I hardly use my NanoVNA anymore. There is a bit of learning curve with the NanVNA's but there are plenty of YouTube videos about how to use them.

I have not used any radio tube amp but have used and repaired a few guitar/bass tube amps. The one machine shop was still using a larger surface grinder that was used tubes. So I have some experience working with them. Our club's VEC has an old 2000 watt tube amp that came out of the local AM radio station decades ago. We keep teasing him by asking when he is going to install that in his pickup truck. The amp is out the same size as a small 18 cubic inch refrigerator I remember working on the old TVs as a kid. one of my uncles owned a TV repair shop. -
1/2" Heliax if you can afford it. Otherwise LMR400 will work even though it is not optimal for repeater use. Here are the losses for LMR400 and 1/2" Heliax for a 50 foot run on 462.600 using 50 watts out and antenna with 6 dBd of gain: Power loss per 100 feet LMR400 - 48% 1/2" Heliax - 30% ERP -effective radiating power LMR400 - 143 watts 1/2" Heliax - 166 watts You will not see 50 watts out of the repeater due to the duplexer. Most will output 25 to 35 watts. Here is the numbers for 35 watts out. EPR LMR400 - 86 watts 1/2" Heliax - 99 watts Those numbers are from using the kv5r.com coax loss calculator. @WSFF627 is correct when he talks about receive signal strength. You have to keep that in mind too. You will be okay with either LMR400 or 1/2" Heliax. Go with what fits your budget. Don't skimp on any of the components such as coax fittings, etc.
