  1. Give it time and RT Systems might come out with a Mac version. I run the RT Systems software for my Icom radios on my Mac. I would get the RT Systems software for my Wouxun radios if they had a Mac version. Edit: I just sent an email to RT Systems asking about Mac versions for the Wouxun radios and will update when I hear back from them.
  2. It depends on the brand of radio and on the antenna used. I have tried the Nagoya 771G and the Abbree version on my Baofeng UV-5R GMRS radios and on my Wouxun KG-935G. I saw an improvement with the 771G and the UV-5R GMRS radios compared to the stock antennas. It was just the opposite with the KG-935G, the stock antenna did better. I have tried the Nagoya 771 dual band antenna on the following radios: Baofeng GT-5R, Explorer QRZ-1 (TYT UV-88), and Icom IC-T10. GT-5R - 771 did better QRZ-1 - 771 no difference between the 771 and stock antenna IC-T10 - stock antenna did better. Your results may vary from mine.
  3. Go with what works for you. That being said, it sounds like there are some issues with the DB-20G that need to be addressed. The radios should work fine when set to wide band without any interference. And it is obvious that there is a problem with the radio since people are having issues when transmitting on wide band. And the seller and/or manufacturer will not know about the issues if people don't let them know.
  4. And you also don't have to worry about what operating system you are using either. The RT Systems cables have worked with Linux, Mac and Windows 10/11 without issue for me.
  5. RT Systems has software for most, but not all, of the Wouxun radios. I know some do not like to pay for programming software but the $35 cost of the RT Systems is reasonable and is veery easy to use.
  6. Talk about resurrecting a zombie thread
  7. I am doing my best to resist getting the new KG-935H. What is helping me resist is keeping my KG-Q10H right in front of me as a reminder that I don't need the 935H. Wish me luck
  8. Most vehicles with the Auto Stop Start systems all use sealed and spill proof AGM batteries. AGM batteries are a whole lot safer than a standard flooded lead acid battery. And the Auto Stop Start system is standard on most newer vehicles now days. I do agree that you should always be cautious when working around any type of battery.
  9. That use to be the best way to hook up radios but that doesn't work very well with modern vehicles with all of the computers and battery management system onboard. I know battery chargers/maintainers are different than two way radios, but the manufacturers don't even want you to connect a charger to the negative terminal of the battery on newer vehicles. They will state to use a good chassis ground so you don't take any chances of messing up the battery monitoring system or computer modules.
  10. That can't be stated enough with newer vehicles AKA computers on wheels.
  11. Nothing would happen unless a person was an idiot about it and caused problems. I mentioned that is against FCC regulations just so people know and don't take a chance getting in trouble. It's no different that how you mentioned it in your video about the new KG-935H. No different than the other day. I was talking to someone while I was on our 2m repeater and it took a minute to realize he was on our GMRS repeater. I quickly let him know what was going on and we laughed about it. A few of us have done the same thing with our 2m and 70cm repeaters. One will be on the 2m repeater while the other is on the 70cm repeater. Again we correct each other and laugh about it.
  12. The 935H also has cross band repeat. The Q10H is quad band and superheterodyne while the 935H is tri band and SOC. I have not noticed much of a difference between the Q10H or Q10G and the 935G as far as TX and RX. Both work well. While you can cross band repeat from GMRS to 2m, I highly recommend that you never do that except for absolute life or death emergencies. You will be wrong cross band from GMRS to 2m even if you have both licenses. FCC regulations do not allow cross band between different services.
  13. That's hard to say since I had the 935G for a while before getting the Q10H. The Q10H has the advantage of being quad band versus the 935H being tri band. Both can be unlocked for use on MURS and GMRS. The nice thing about the 935G is that I can give to a family member and not worry about them accidentally transmitting on the amateur bands. Remember that the 935G and Q10G are GMRS only radios and can't be unlocked. Yes I tried and the unlock password will not work on the GMRS only radios.
  14. I have to agree. I like my Q10H and 935G. I would seriously consider getting the 935H if I didn't already have the Q10H.
  15. Yes a UV-5R works and everyone can afford it. But there are definitely better radios. I have a Baofeng GT-5R along with two UV-5R GMRS radios. I stated out with the GT-5R as my first radio. Now they are regulated to spares to to hand out to others to use. A lot of people have started out with a Baofeng radio and that is a good thing since it allows more to get involved in amateur radio or GMRS for little money. Most will upgrade to a better hand held though. The UV-5R is not the best and is veery susceptible to front end overload.
  16. @WSGJ919 I would still send it back for repair or replacement. While you haven't seen much difference between being heard, you did not mention if that was on simplex or through a repeater. There can and will be a difference when using a repeater. We can always tell when someone talks on our repeater that is using narrow band because they are hard to hear and understand.
  17. Propagation can definitely change between the different seasons. Location and local terrain factors in too. Basically the shorter the wave length is the more vegetation will affect signal propagation. Analog TV stations are another examples. the VHF channels will not be affected as much by foliage compared to the UHF channels. Same goes for two way radios. I have learned to despise cedar and pine trees. They definitely mess with UHF frequencies. I travel down two paved county roads to get to the closest VA hospital. There are plenty of valleys and forested areas. And is some places there are a lot of red cedar trees growing close to the road. I have quite a few spots where I have a hard time getting into the 70cm and GMRS repeaters while I have no problems getting into the 2m repeater.
  18. Here is a video where a guy played with the antenna height on his dual band antenna to find out what worked best for his location. He was in a bit of a hole with lots of trees around. He found that having the antenna up as high as he could get was not the best solution. Nitpicking the Height of My 2m/70cm Base Station Antenna
  19. I always respond to request to use our repeater within a day or two even though it is an open repeater. I haven't had a request go to my spam folder yet when coming from My GMRS. There are two repeaters east of me that are owned by the same person(s). I received permission for one repeater but nothing on the second repeater.
  20. Yes it does. I always forget about that since I hardly ever adjust the squelch. I usually leave the squeal set at 3 on my KG-1000G's which works well for me.
  21. I still am using Wouxun KG-1000G mobiles in my vehicle and as my base station. While I have opened up my dual band radios, I stick with using Part 95 certified GMRS radios for everyday use. It is nice to know that I can use one of my dual band radios in an emergency on amateur bands and GMRS since I am licensed for both. I am restricted to using short antennas on my vehicle and run a Comet SBB1 for 2m/70cm and a Tram-1174 tuned for GMRS. Yes the SBB1 will work on GMRS with a SWR of 1.8 or less but the Tram has an SWR of 1.4 or less.
  22. We are using an Arcom RC-210 controller on our 2m repeater. It is setup with a 5 second squelch tail and a curtesy beep. The time out timer is set to 3 minutes. The way we have the RC-210 setup is that the timer resets right after the curtesy beep. So if you tail gate another person before the curtesy beep then the timer will not reset. The timer will reset if you wait for the curtesy tone and then transmit before the repeater drops out. We are going to set things up the same for our 70cm and GMRS repeaters once we get another Arcom RC-210 controller. I don't care for that setup 100% because too many people like to tailgate which doesn't allow others to get into the repeater without doubling. I do understand why it is done since it is easier on the repeater. I am giving a quick class on repeater etiquette at our monthly meeting this Thursday and will discuss allowing the repeater to drop completely out now and them so others can use the repeater. It can be frustrating at times when you can't get a word in due to the quick keyer's AKA Ricochet Rabbits.
  23. Having a dial to fine tune squelch on GMRS mobiles would be nice. My Icom and TYT dual band mobiles have a dial.
  24. I'll correct that. My typing isn't the best and it doesn't help that auto-correct is always messing with me.
  25. The biggest improvement you can make to your hand held is to use a mobile or base antenna with it. Either way you want to get the antenna as high up as you can. A mobile antenna with a magnet mount stuck onto a pizza pan or 9x13 baking sheet will work well, again get the antenna up in the air. A mobile or base antenna up high will make a big improvement over the best hand held antenna.
