I have some kids on my 650 who figured out my output tone. they have not made any serious problems for me as of yet. one of the reasons its split.
-
if your machine is capable of multi tone then yes you can have 2 different tones but cannot be used simultaneously. and it will be by no means private as discussed in previous post. both will have to monitor the other for activity. on a side note whay repeater did you have in mind or do you already have in possession.

got this in an e-mail today worth a look for those in PS. have a good look at the radios in the clip. http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Kids-on-2-Way-Radios-Interfere-With-Emergency-Calls-228090311.html

Duplexers, Can style vs portable/mobile style, Q&A
JohnE replied to Logan5's question in Technical Discussion
pic's? depending on how old it is should be N or SO239. -
took it all down today. had one of the "kids" take it down, he needed the experience and it took forever.

put up the temp antennas yesterday and here are some pics. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e341/rftekk/Towers/tower003.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e341/rftekk/Towers/tower001.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e341/rftekk/Towers/tower006.jpg a different perspective. looking up is not the same as looking down. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e341/rftekk/Towers/tower004.jpg and for the HAM guys here, this was also on site http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e341/rftekk/Towers/tower007.jpg

Duplexers, Can style vs portable/mobile style, Q&A
JohnE replied to Logan5's question in Technical Discussion
they de-tune very easily in transit. been there done that, I stay away from them. also shy away from Sinclairs. older PD's , CW, TX/RX , and Wacoms IMO are better choices. just my experience. -
it does both. its an old ferrtonics unit

didn't hear them this morning. have to plug my decoder in my control but I don't think there is enough signal to get a clean read. they were fairly noisy to me and after the sun popped out it got worse.

what a week. stuff just failing in high places all over the place, another one today. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e341/rftekk/20131003_144629.jpg

heard 2 gentlemen talking on a machine unknown to me around 08:30. sounded like they were checking the range of it. I don't know if this was the Brick machine or not but last I heard the mobile unit was near Camden on 70, base operator said that was almost clear across the state. any one have a clue. sounded like ham's by the way they were talking.

Duplexers, Can style vs portable/mobile style, Q&A
JohnE replied to Logan5's question in Technical Discussion
the big square cans? those thing are a PIA, they had to be tuned in the field b/c they went out of tune so easily. -
worked on this Monday. forgot to take the camera up w/me. I forgot how tiring it can be working on these types of towers. 2 hrs to go up fix and come down and I was only about half way up, maybe a little more. if it goes bad again we'll change the cable. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e341/rftekk/misc/radio008.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e341/rftekk/misc/radio009.jpg

Duplexers, Can style vs portable/mobile style, Q&A
JohnE replied to Logan5's question in Technical Discussion
there are 4 and 6 can duplexers. its a matter of isolation and insertion loss. my private 650 radio in previous post has 105dB of isolation between the ports. the insertion loss is 0.8 on the RX side and 0.9 on the TX side. the smaller CW has ~75dB iso and ~1.5dB in losses. the 4 can version should yield >80dB iso and ~1dB losses roughly. depending on what it is tuned on ask for the spec of the tune. isolation, insertion losses and vswr if it was done on a network analyzer. should look like the tune pics I posted for my 575 duplexer. if it is done right it you should see a difference. I forgot to address you SWR in my other post. what make you think it the duplexer? did you check power/swr w/o the duplexer and what is it vs w/it? also what meter are you using? -
Duplexers, Can style vs portable/mobile style, Q&A
JohnE replied to Logan5's question in Technical Discussion
the PD should out preform the smaller CW. full cans are always better if you have the room for it. there are 2 duplexers in this pic. the one on top I assume is the type you have and the one in the middle is what your going to get less 2 cans. http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h358/erscom/650mindy004.jpg -
having trouble uploading pis to my gallery. server error of some sort no codes given.

that would work well. have to keep that in mind.

people always ask if I'm afraid of falling, I tell them its not the fall its the sudden stop at the bottom thats the problem. most fail to see the humor in that though. aside from falling the worst thing that could happen is getting knocked out while strapped in. all kidding aside its a 38' free standing tower pretty well mounted and if I'm not comfortable I won't climb it. I refused to climb one once and it didn't go well for the guy who did. from what I heard he walked away ok but was shaken up pretty good.

http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h358/erscom/IMAG1222_zps9d0b8d18.jpg was assessing what could be done for 3 temp antennas for a large Scouting event in 2 weeks. will post more pics as it progresses.

Logan5 ARR makes 2 types of rf switched pre amps, one is a tower mount that can handle 160W the other is a smaller indoor 25W version. these are ok for mobile or control set ups. on a repeater the RX only pre amps increase RX sensitivity. on my stand alone private repeater (tkr850) the front end opens at 0.25uV, w/DEI pre amp in line it will do 0.12uV. in terms of dB that is a 6dB increase and when on the fringes or noisy areas it makes a difference of being heard or not.
-
de-sense issues are caused by putting on connectors improperly, poor tuning of duplexers and poor weatherproofing of antennas. make sure you read the paper work that comes w/antenna, most have drain holes on the bottom. if you cover them up guess what happens.unless you get a bad piece of cable(it happens) or your running too long for for its abilities there should be no problem running 400 cable 50'. at 50 ' your line loss will be ~1.25dB or roughly 20%. the 820 is rated at 25W w/duplexer loss of 1.5 db and a line loss of ~1.25 to the cable your looking at ~13W into the antenna. these are just #'s off the top of my head you mileage may vary.
