  1. thanks Gary. maybe a wind/solar combo would be better. I'm roughly 41*31'23" but surrounded by 50'+ white pines. the other problem being a non heated shack w/regard to the batteries. really don't want to do an 800'+ electrical run just for the radio and there are too many rules about doing that here.
  2. who is using them and what is the set up. interested in doing solar but need info.
  3. wonder if these are good for MURS http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h358/erscom/antennas/vhf002_zps1dbeb311.jpg

  5. you have a location picked already? what kind of coverage are you looking for. my machine can be heard in Patchogue LI w/mobile.
  6. "might " be back by the weekend if I can wok it out.
  7. neither you have a PM
  8. 575 is off line indefinitely.
  9. the older 201's are better IMO. I have been using them for over 20 yrs.since PD changed hands yrs ago the new stuff is not the same. of the last 6 RFS 201 we bought 4 went back inside of a yr b/c the radome separated from the support pipe. I still have on in my service bay just because. here is what I have been using for a while, cheap light and work OK 5dbd http://www.tessco.com/products/headerProductSearch.do?searchType=1&searchField=1&searchText=fg4605 also in 7dbd http://www.tessco.com/products/headerProductSearch.do?searchType=1&searchField=1&searchText=fg4607 these are list prices if you hunt around you can find them for almost half that. here is the current 201 http://www.tessco.com/products/displayProductInfo.do?sku=341716&eventPage=5 I am not to familiar w/the comet or diamond antennas ,you'll have to search here to see what thought are on those.
  10. what model PD?
  11. was up at the site last week checking a few things. I have a slight SWR issue nothing my isolator can't handle but it will need to be addressed when it gets warmer and no snow on the deck.
  12. today I had a hit on 115DPL and a call sign out of Roselle NJ. again I was working on something else at the site, managed to see the PL on my ferrtronics and get the call. anyone have a clue? 21:30 some one testing w/over beep and DTMF tones. unknown PL

    SNOW

and add another foot from yesterday.
  14. also known as a radio tie line, as opposed to a "phone patch"
  15. if you can get legacy radios in good condition that would be better than FRS in terms of power and audio. let the kid s play w/FRS. IIRC comet or the parent co. of comet makes antenna's for commercial/gmrs band. if you look through some of the older posts you will find references to some of the types of antennas we are all using.
  16. who got it and how much? 7" up at the house and ~10" in the city.
  17. yes. costco,BJ's , Dicks sporting goods.
  18. my best guess is it is in band. I've it done it myself in the commercial world. it has to be done w/2 antennas if its bi-directional. remember I'm hearing this on my input 467 side.
  19. yes the 185 is only PC programmable. you will have to tell whoever programs it that you want it set for 25Kc's.
  20. Rich that's who I thought it might be but I didn't want to jump the gun on it. I need to establish "if" it is a link repeater and is that is legal. If it is a link repeater is it bi-directional and on what freq's. we already know one of the but I have not heard anything on the output side as previously stated. once I get up there w/my analyzer and decoder to see what the signal levels I should be able to establish if its a link.
  21. FDNY is currently simulcasting on V and UHF for main dispatch but is using simplex and in hi rise cases portable repeaters on UHF all still wideband. from what I've heard PD an FD pretty much told the FCC to piss off. also most of NYPD's main channels are all up on T-band.
  22. thanks for posting that up PG. your field testing about matches what we have experienced w/switch over. the in building repeaters suffered more that we originally thought they would in some cases. some of it was fixed w/higher power portables and more power out of the repeaters. in one case I tried an Rx preamp, that didn't work out too well.
  23. I see the PL's if they are listed. I like the new look and feel of it. its faster on my machines than it use to be.
  24. PG what did your testing yield?
  25. in a word yes. I put 650 back to wide and deal w/adjacent channel noise b/c in places where it was marginal it no longer worked. basically a what is the lesser of 2 evils scenario.
