there will be a pl change coming or an ltr controller. someone has been screwing w/it the last 2 days. I also am forgoing putting in the new machine at this time. JE ***EDIT*** it has come to my attention that there is another 575 machine possibly w/same pl. will have to do further checking as it may just be atmospherics.
sorry man , somehow I missed this. ?what is the difference from 25W to 50W. A 3dB. can easily be made up in the antenna. keep you line losses to a minimum and your antenna gain as large possible. no need to hold out for a 100W'er.
after it was removed from the rack http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h358/erscom/575/Qtr%201_zpspf1aqebg.jpg famous Chinese song called tuning http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h358/erscom/575/Qtr%202_zpspmhhdi5l.jpg power check http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h358/erscom/575/Qtr%203_zpsw7shjwum.jpg and another new to me toy http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h358/erscom/575/bird%201_zpssybfxhhv.jpg final power will be done at the site
it's been a while so here is what has gone on in the last yr. I decided to pull the 1K feet of electric to it as the experimentation w/solar failed miserably over the summer. the winter will only make it worse. there are now 3 legs of #6 going from my main panel to a sub panel in the shed. I have 2 circuits w/one duplex outlet each. I am in the process of insulating it for the winter so as to keep it relatively warm or a least above freezing. I figure a 100W bulb should do the job. pics to follow on technical note my current draw w/battery chargers and transmitter on is under 3A AC w/voltage drop of only 1V
passing on that Chip from Angle linear had closed up shop and gone fishing. sad to see him go as he had some of the best preamps and duplexers around not to mention his technical expertise in the field.
sort of not a big fan of exposed dipoles. I have some reliable sources telling me that comp-rod is making some really good ones that are sealed. meaning no more exposed lugs to create water intrusion problems. 22' 16bay stacked array is what one buddy of mine has been using. I still prefer the fiberglass ones to open dipoles though.
100w MSF 5000 tuned down, MTR 200 or 3000 also tuned down. Quantar also would have to be tuned down Kenwood TKR 850 or 851 w/Cresend or TPL amp. hard line, size site dependent antenna Commander Tech 1151 or 455 again site dependent. main site would be the new 432 park ave backup site Shearson Lehman building in jersey city
there is equipment out there for problems like this but they run in the 10's of thousands of $$$$ your typical notch filter is going to do nothing for adjacent channel interference, same goes for pass/notch. also keep in mind that if it is running 25Kc's on a 12.5K freq there is no way to filter it out, 1/2 of the signal is on you freq. the only solution is to hunt it down. been there done that more times than I care to remember on a professional level.
up date didn't find the machine ,but its gone for now. there has been interference coming from the adjacent 12K lower freq. at night . it sounds like a scanner going out over a 25k radio w/some power. I can hear it as well as a friend in LI it is on the 467 side and wreaking havoc w/my input. I belove it is FRS ch8 will have to check later.
there is a second repeater on 575 w/the same input as mine w/different out put or it could be in open RX just an FYI will be going on a search mission as time permits
you might want to have a look at this. my knowledge of building antennas is limited but as far as I know bandwidth is a function of length, diameter would be power handling. http://tf.nist.gov/timefreq/general/pdf/451.pdf http://vhfdx.radiocorner.net/docs/JANqx00.pdf
I'll have to get one of those just to field test for S&G's. what I can tell you is that in horizon and weak signal areas for a unity there is a vast difference when using the taller 5db antennas in both TX & RX. at some point I will post pics of the antennas I have used over the yrs, but as I've said before I keep coming back to the AS mosaic. also w/regard to the using on a non metallic surface you will need to make some kind of ground plane. 1/4 wave at minimum but "if" you have the room to make it as big as the antenna is long that would be better.
