Radioddity DB25-G looks good.

Thanks for the replies. Here in Arizona DPS is still using 460MHz and I scan the 4 local channels on my HTs all the time. I don't have to put the radio in the stock location, just thought it might be easier that way but my cup holder is messed up so I can't retract it so I have a big hole to mount a radio if I needed too. As far as antennas, as long as I didn't have to make too many holes I could make a second location for it if I had to. I'm just trying to keep things simple. CHIRP compatibility would be a big plus and I'm not opposed to a radio I could "unlock"(like with the UV-5R's)in order to get GMRS and even MURS with scan only for 460MHz. I've found a few radios on Amazon, need to research them a bit more but wanted to get y'alls input too.

Now that I have my HT's sorted out I'd like to add a radio to my truck. I'd like something that could replace my current AM/FM radio since I really never listen to it and if I did want to listen to a local FM station I'm sure I could use the GMRS radio like I do with my HT. I'd like it to be able to scan 460MHz(DPS/Highway Patrol) channels so I can keep track of what's going on while driving. I plan on using my factory antenna location on my truck for the new radio's antenna location so I'll not have to make any new holes. Does anything like this exist? Is there a radio that'll do this without breaking the bank? Thanks.

Also if you listen to a narrow band channel set to wide band it'll sound fine but if you try to listen to a wide band channel while set to narrow band it'll sound wrong.

Wouxun KG-UVD1P "Dealer Channel Mode"?
WSAA635 replied to WSAA635's question in Technical Discussion
I have the radio set up just the way I like it so it's not a huge deal. I'm sure someone will chime in eventually and then we'll all know what it does. -

I am going to make a video about the 5 things that I've found out about it that I don't like. They're not "Deal Breakers" by any means but still, if a cheap UV-5R has these features then this radio should have them as well but like I said, I still really like this radio. That's why I bought a 2nd one. -
Wouxun KG-UVD1P "Dealer Channel Mode"?
WSAA635 replied to WSAA635's question in Technical Discussion
I was thinking it was to unlock the radio for all the frequencies that it was able to Tx/Rx on but then you can also do that in CHIRP in the Settings as well. I don't want to try it if I don't know what it does. -

Man this topic has gotten WAY Off Topic. LOL. I simply want to say what a Great Radio I think this is(HAM or GMRS/MURS aside) and we've gotten off on FCC Rules/Regulations and the Law and Going to Jail. Almost sorry I posted this. -

He was jamming a repeater so someone turned him in. I don't plan on doing any such thing. Unless someone want's to be a KAREN and turn me in for owning a HAM radio with GMRS frequencies programmed into it then it's "no harm, no foul" as far as I'm concerned. -

From what I understand IF you do get an infraction from someone turning you in it's in the form of a letter then another letter then a letter saying that you're going to get a fine then finally the fine. I honestly don't think FCC folks cruise around in their vans just looking for someone using a HAM radio on a GMRS frequency to bust. There's no profit in it for them. Also, wouldn't they have to log that into some kind of book that would later be posted somewhere? Just saying that I think they're not worried about me or you as much as you think they are. -

I think this is a pretty good video that sums it up nicely. Thanks Randy. -

The FCC has to post infractions that were enforced on their web site. Just look up how many people have been busted for transmitting with out of band radios. I'd be willing to bet it's ZERO. -

Randy did a good video about TX from a HAM radio on GMRS frequencies and FCC fines and in a nut shell NO ONE has gotten a fine in the last 14 years for using a HAM radio as a GMRS radio. The FCC just doesn't care. Also, they're not Laws, they're Rules and Regulations. As fare as the UVD1P, it's designed for 136-174MHz and 350-470MHz so there should be zero power loss on GMRS and MURS frequencies. As GMRS folks we should be a bit more relaxed about stuff and not as "legalistic" as all those Sad Hams are about things. -

It just seems odd to me that basically the same radio can be advertised as a "HAM" radio and a "GMRS" radio simply because it's locked to that frequency and it has the FCC Stamp of Approval. As long as I only Tx on the frequency I'm licensed for equipment shouldn't matter that much. -

The UV9PX is totally different. The display and a lot of other things are nothing like the UVD1P. I know that "some people" have issues with using a "HAM" radio on GMRS and other frequencies but I really doubt I'll end up in Federal Prison for using one in the middle of the desert. Bottom line is I really like the radio and for the price it's hard to beat. -

Just picked up a second one. I plan on doing a video in the near future after I've lived with it for a bit talking about the very few negatives I've found, all of which are very minor things. All in all I've very happy with the UVD1P, for a SuperHet, Dual Channel, VHF/UHF radio for $115 it's hard to ask for anything more. I'd love to see Randy do a video on this radio some day. I think he may like it even better than the 805G and 905G that he likes. -
While reading though the manual I noticed something called "Dealer Channel Mode" and wonder just what this is for?

Smiley Antenna Slim Duck GMRS 465MHz 5/8 Wave.??
WSAA635 replied to WSAA635's topic in Equipment Reviews
From more videos that I've watched the 5/8 Smiley Duck is suppose to be 6db and be equal to the longer Nagoya 771. I ordered one for my UVD1P since the Abbree 771 didn't fit this radio properly. -
First, let me say that I'm no NotaRubicon(aka Randy)so please don't judge my videos too harshly. Second, I'm as pleased as a pig in slop with my new KG-UVD1P. It does everything I need it to do and does it simply enough that my brain doesn't hurt after messing with it. Here's a little video I made for my channel.

Any thoughts on the Wouxun WOUXUN KG-UVD1P?
WSAA635 replied to WSAA635's topic in General Discussion
Just got the UVD1P in and set it up for GMRS/MURS/NOAA and DPS and wow, this is a really nice radio for $115 bucks. UHF/VHF, easy to set up in CHIRP Legacy and it's a SuperHet which is awesome. I think this is my "Goldilocks" radio. It's Just Right. Kind of makes me think about returning the 805G and using the funds to get another UVD1P or maybe I'll just keep the 805G and use it as a loner for people that aren't that radio savvy since it a pretty simple radio to us. Either way if anyone is looking for a nice radio that can be frequency expanded to work with GMRS/MURS and that can pick up NOAA Weather THIS should be high on your list. It's also hard to believe it's a 13+ year old design. Guess that's why it's been around for so long, it's just that awesome. -
Let me also add that I'm coming from a musician's point of view with this question. I know that when I use to play electric guitar it could sound loud in the room but the high frequency didn't penetrate walls that well. When I switched to bass it might not sound as loud but the lower frequency could be felt through the entire house. Thanks for the great answers.
