Just ordered a Wouxun KG-905g.(and an 805g too)
WSAA635 replied to WSAA635's topic in General Discussion
All the repeaters that I'll use in my Ares are between 100 and 141 for tones so if it only affects higher tones then I think I'll be good. -
Can you reduce syllables in your call sign ("Ten" instead of "One-Zee-Roh")?
WSAA635 replied to a topic in Guest Forum
GMRS is NOT H.A.M. so all those H.A.M. rules don't apply. Many folks don't even bother with their call sign or those that do don't follow the 15 minute rule. WSAA six three five OUT. -
Not to get too far off topic but I've noticed that sometimes the O.D. of the antenna bade is too large to screw down into the I.D. of the hole on the radio. I had this issue with a Nagoya 701c and my Talkpod A36 Plus. It didn't seat far enough into the radio to make good contact so the factory antenna actually worked better.

So does the KH-805g have the same issues? Do all Wouxun radios have this issue or only certain models? -

That's kind of what I was saying in a tongue of cheek sort of way. It's doubtful that someone who makes thousands or even hundreds of thousands of radios each year wouldn't do something about an issue like this. I even emailed buytwowsyradios and Anthony got back to me saying that other than a handful of S88's he's not heard of such an issue. I think it's much to do over nothing but I'll have a year in case something does go sideways. -

So depending on the day of the week the radio was made the tones may be off or they may not be off. All the tones or just some of them. It seems that tones are pretty much hardwired into the radio, that is to say they're preset without variation so how they can be out of spec. would beg the question as to how a major manufacturer like Wouxun could be so sloppy. -
First off it's odd that the Tx and Rx aren't simply 5MHz apart. Normally I'd the TX is 467.650MHz the Rx will be 462.650MHz, a +5MHz off set which is standard for GMRS repeaters. I know with some radios you need to enter both frequencies and with others you just need the base frequency (462.xxxMHz) and the offset and the radio will automatically raise the Tx frequency to the 467.xxxMHz one. You normally only need the TX or input CTCSS to trigger the repeater. You can enter the Rx output tone if you only want to hear the repeater and cut out other traffic on that frequency. Randy(Notarubicon productions) on the YouTubes has a lot of good videos explaining all of this. If you can check them out and I'll bet it'll clear a lot of things up for you.

The 3 repeaters that I'd use locally each have a different tone so I'd need those 3 tones. I could set each tone on one GMRS channel and tone scan each with my UV-82 to see which tone the 905g is transmitting. If those 3 work I can figure that Wouxun got things correct with the other tones and all will be well with the universe. -

The KG-905g is a Superhet, not a SOC/"rig on a chip" radio. Also, the warranty is 1 year so I think I'll have plenty of time to see if it's going to work or not. -

So basically, in a nut shell, to test out my 905g I need to program the Rx/Tx tones into a channel of one of my Baofeng radios then do the same with the 905g and if they talks I'm good to go. If they don't I have an issue. What would buytwowayradios do to fix it if I did have an issue? Is it something that I could easily fix at home? -

And it always helps if you wave a dead chicken over the radio before you use it. -

Thanks for chiming in Randy. I ask this same question today on a YouTubes video you did on tones about 5 months ago. I'm really looking forward to getting my 905g and hope there's no issues with it. I've been having a run of bad luck lately with a few of the radios I've bought. I hope the 905g breaks this cycle. -

All of the radios I currently have or have had only have the tones in Hz. They're all CTCSS tones. I searched the YouTubes for Wouxun radios having issues with tones being installed correctly in the radios and I've found zero, zip, zilch about it. There seems to be no issues with tones and I don't know why RayP would even mention it. -

So how do I know if my 905g is good or has an issue with tones? What is RayP talking about in the above post? -

This-how do I test/check to see if my Tones are correct and do I need to check all of them or if one is right then will they all be right? -

How do I test to see if the PL and DPL tones are right? Do I need to text all of them or if one is ok then can I figure they're all ok? Randy has talked about a lot of Wouxun radios on his YouTubes and never said anything about this issue. None of the other folks have said anything on their YouTubes reviews about Wouxun radios having this problem with Tones not being set right. -

Firmware Upgrade on Retevis RA89 didn't take.
WSAA635 replied to WSAA635's question in Technical Discussion
You can't back up the firmware in CHIRP. I think you're talking about the codeplug(frequencies and settings) which have nothing to do with a firmware update. There's an entirely different program that you use to update the firmware. I'll post a link to YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-UpeCZnsVo -

Ok, I looked up what PL and DPL are and I don't think I'll ever need or use them. As long as I can get CTCSS tones for repeaters I'm good. -
I finally had one of my returns come through so I had some funds in my Amazon account. Been going back and forth between the 805g and the 905g and it looks like the 905g won out so I'll be getting my first actual GMRS radio. I've had a lot of other radios(most returned for one reason or another)but this'll be the first one that's actually Part 95E approved. I've already got the factory CPS installed on my Linux Box via WINE so I'll be ready to set it up when it gets here Saturday. I'm going to test fit a Nagoya 701c antenna to see if it has a small enough O.D. to work and if it does I'll order a GMRS tuned Nagoya for it. Anyway, just wanted to share the good news. PS. Also ordered a KG-805g too.

TidRadio TD-H8 - A true 10 watt handheld
WSAA635 replied to SvenMarbles's topic in Equipment Reviews
The issue was that in factory installed firmware didn't allow proper side button programing. The upgrade was suppose to fix that but it wouldn't finish properly so it ended up bricking the radio. -
The KG-905G has USB-C charging now on the battery. That's a plus. I can get a 2600Ah battery for the KG-805G so it'd have the same battery capacity as the 905 but it'd not be USB-C capable. Still not gotten my refund on one of the radios that was delivered back to the seller on the 7th. Hopefully later today with any luck. 805, 905, maybe both, maybe 2 of the 805's, IDK, this isn't an easy choice. LOL
-
I use my Amazon Card so I'll get 5% back and normally(but not this time)and I can take my returns to Khol's and drop them off and I'll get the refund in a couple hours. I had to ship some of the stuff back UPS(on their dime so I didn't have to pay shipping) and I'm still waiting on the refund to hit my Gift Card balance on Amazon.

KG-935G Plus Rubber Duck vs Smiley 5/8 Slim Duck 465 MHZ
WSAA635 replied to Webslinger's question in Technical Discussion
I didn't have any LUCK with the 5/8 Rubber DUCK. I was actually getting better Tx with a stock Wouxun antenna that I got from BuyTwoWayRadio for $8 bucks. I ended up sending it back. Nagoya works well IF it'll fit down into the recess where the antenna goes. I had one radio(think it was a Wouxun) where the Nagoya didn't seat all the way and Rx and Tx were not that great. My current Talkpod A36 Plus suffers from the same issue, the channel for the antenna to screw down into is too narrow so the stock antenna for it works better than the Nagoya does. I really wish they'd standardize this stuff so that all the OD's of the antennas and ID's of the radios would match up.
