PuddlePirate got a reaction from WRXB215 in Update to MXT575 low pwr
In my original post I was questioning only getting 22-23w out of my 50w MXT575. I was able to have my radio tested by C&M Communications.  On my Pyramid P59KX (5/7amp pwr supply output was 23-24w.  On his power supply reading 50W on the MXT.... Guess who just bought a decent pwr supply!
Thanks to all the original replies.

Unless you are trying to bounce your signal off the moon, just mount your antenna in the best spot you can, as high as you can get it, and it will work fine for for highway/trail comms.
My antenna is mounted above the rear tail-light/rear fender of my jeep, below the roofline, where many "experts" warned me it "will not work". and while it certainly does not work as well as it could, it works just fine. I can hit a repeater with it at 92 miles and regularly get 20+ miles on simplex and have never had issues on the trail where i could not hear someone that others could, or they could not hear me.
My two words of advice are:
    1) ignore the 'experts'
    B ) - dont over-think it.

I have not ye tfigured out how to reply to individual answers to my question, so a thanks to all who have helped me.
to WRUU653, "Puddle Pirate" is a sarcastic name for the coast guard (served from 1969 to 1975) as well as "shallow water sailor" it's taken in good humor🙂

I've used my Surecom meter, a NanoVNA and the Comet analyzer. They all have their place but I find the Surecom not to be as accurate as the Comet analyzer or NanoVNA. And the NanoVNA's have a learning curve to them.
