  1. Just the gift of Time to work 6 meters for the VHF Contest.
  2. Wanna see Randolpho do that ala Molly Shannon!
  3. Well, CANG and USMC do have CEWI BN's, right??? (although the nomenclature may differ)
  4. Cue the "that's not real radio" SadHam comments!
  5. An oldie but a goodie. That one's been hammered to death by the Hams, both Happy and Sad over the last couple of years. Yeah, with EchoLink or DMR/C4FM, etc., et al, I can talk thousands of miles on my handheld. But I prefer the old school nothing between me and the other guy than the ether...
  6. Or.... Both kinds of Music, Country and Western.
  7. E-1 pay in 74 was 397 per. ETS'd as an SP4 at the 505 per month. For those that care, my MOS was 98G2LAEK3/05H2LAEK3. But was also put on Temp as a 95B when I was guarding the SCIF as there weren't enough MP's with clearances to do the gig.
  8. When you're making $505 a month defending democracy, you go cheap! Except for my golf clubs back then...
  9. Well 49 years ago it was free, but required. But of all my army buddies who got CB's back then, I was the only one who sent in for the License!
  10. KAUO6363, Sent in a form that was in the Kraco box to Uncle Charlie when I was at Ft. Campbell in '76.
  11. As far as Ivy, still immune as of last weekend. I'll know about the Oak, sumac and stinging nettles this weekend after we visit the river land...
  12. well, it's been 69 years so, I think I'm in the clear there?
  13. ARRL has log books. I have a mini one for the occasional portable no cell service ops. Never have I ever logged a GMRS or CBRS contact, but the fields in a log book can be modified to suit any radio service I would think.
  14. Now that's just what Randolpho ordered!!!
  15. No bueno there my friend. I am fortunate in that I am not affected by PO, PI or Stinging Nettles. My wife didn't believe me about the PI, until I picked up a bunch from a plant in our back yard, and suffered nothing. The hill behind our garage is covered in the stuff. She, OTOH, is very much affected by them all. Makes hiking our river land an adventure in avoidance for her where I just plow on thru the itchweed...
  16. I've not ever seen this movie, so I'm glad to know I don't know what you're talking about for once!
  17. Learned Elmers Are Really NIce - he was describing you amd MarcSpaz Steve!
  18. Staycation with Horace and Daniel?
  19. If they're any kind of good BN's they'll also take credit for the idea!!!
  20. Pretty much how it is here. Of course since it's mostly me and mine, how can it not be? Other than a small group of friends nearby that I talk with occasionally at home, I don't use GMRS unless I'm out of town up where there's no cell service.
  21. I've never been asked to produce a copy of either my Amateur or GMRS licenses. I've heard tell of a couple instances of SH's asking to see someone's license before they let them key up their precious Hams radio, but only as hearsay...
  22. GMRS etiquette - almost as prevalent as FCC enforcement!
  23. Every 15 minutes and at the end of your conversation. As far as the other etiquette issues, pretty much what the previous replies have noted. As far as calling other users, Callsign or name or nickname, whatever gets their attention if they're listening. Some areas have active simplex and repeaters in use, but for the most part GMRS is a "bring your own" type of service. In my case it's my wife and son using it when up north away from cell phone service, around the large city lot at home and with a small number of friends near home we chat with occasionally. I rarely use repeaters. Have fun however you use it, and don't overthink it or take too much umbrage if some self appointed radio cop gives you grief if you do "something wrong."
  24. I've only ever seen one other site that's close at all, and a very distant second at that. So distant that I can't even recall it's name or the URL. I'm here mostly as I'm into all facets of the radio world, but I do generally only use GMRS radios when out doing things, barely, if ever use a repeater. But interesting to see what else is going on out there and this is the best place to find that for GMRS.
