Places aren't allowed to have raffles because state law says you can't gamble. So you change it to make a $5 donation to the organization and get this ticket to put in the cup to win the prize.. And now gambling is legal. Laws and technicalities can be a real challenge.

He forgot about companies that go there and then sell the information to them. Do you really think the govt would listen to that? Or a court would give them the decision? But good try.

How do you establish this for an open repeater? Unless you transmit a short "show" with the rules etc once a week or month. Paper or text isn't a reality between radios. This is one of the things I talk about with regulations being so broad you can't figure out what they really mean. How can we come up with so many different interpretations from the same regulations written on paper? Besides it's done on purpose so they can interpret it they way they wish at the time they need to use it.

Nearly impossible if you have an open "travelers" repeater on 141.3Hz. People come and go likely never to use it again.

So when you shut down your linked repeater did you think about just keeping it up as a standalone?

The positional problems are likely frequency cancellation. When you have multipath signals coming in like Steve said there are areas in the room that those signal paths cross over each other. And depending on how the frequencies match up with each other they either cancel or reinforce the signal strength. Also know as an interference pattern. This is usually in weaker signal areas but can still happen in stronger areas. In my driveway, my normal parking spot I have a repeater that comes in weak and intermittent. If I back the truck up 4 feet the repeater comes in perfect. When I was transmitting to the repeater it made no difference which spot I was in, came in fine. When I'm in my house on my HT inches make a huge difference. And the funny thing is for the most part it doesn't change. We'll have to see as the leaves drop off the trees.

I think digital on the current frequencies will be a big nuisance to any channel they're on. If they want digital just make sure it has it's own place so the analog channels can still work properly.

Paying to be in a club so you can use the repeater is the same as paying to use the repeater with a technicality.

I think the larger repeaters might need rules so they don't overwhelm the area. Like putting up 8 repeaters on all the frequencies and then charging to use the repeaters. Little guys putting up 5 or 10 watt repeaters for local area coverage for their families don't really impact the areas much.

Mine came from CA too.... I'm on the other side of the country so +5 days.

I told them I would edit my rating after I received the radio. They still sent it. You can always edit it again if you give them 5 stars and something doesn't work out. I like the little H3s. I'm not hard core so the little things don't really bother me.

I have none of these problems with Odmaster programming with bluetooth.

I have a couple of TD-H3s and the OEMs work OK. The Smiley Rubber Duck works better and is much smaller. It's the best of both worlds. The Nagoya 771G beats them all for distance. When I was doing some testing I was able to get 1.3 miles on the Smiley before it quit abruptly and the Nagoya went out to 1.8 miles and still had more but I didn't want to walk more. Most of the time I use the Smiley because it convenient. But if I think distance will be involved or I'm going to be using the repeater at 21 miles away I'll use the Nagoya.

I really haven't noticed after a rain a difference in my reception of the transmission. I thought that was a bit odd. In the winter when the leaves are off I expect better results. But hopefully by then the antenna will be up higher.

That's the difference between the 2 cables. 1.6dB loss over 65' for the for the Airborne10 and 1.3db loss for the Hyperflex13. The gain of .3dB comes at the double the cost of the cable. I think my distance isn't great enough to jump up to the better cable. If it was a 1-1.5dB I wouldn't even be asking.

That is true. But a signal can punch through a tree if you have power. It's dead in the water with a formidable hill.

Well at the shop I have 50' of LMR400 and I need to get coax for the house. So it looks like I can get away with the Airborne 10. Plus it's a higher wattage transmitter than an HT. It claims 20 watts out but I've measured it at an average of 25 watts when it's a 14 volt input in my truck. Right around 18 watts when the voltage is at 12.0 Kinda what I figured when it's only going to be .3dB

So............ Is it worth it to go from M&P Airborne10 to Hyperflex13. I have two applications. 1st is at home and will be with a 20watt transmitter with a 7.2dBi antenna. 2nd will be at my shop with a 7.8 watt RT97S with a 7.2dBi antenna. The shop coax run might be 50' instead of 65'. Cost isn't really a huge factor even though the cables are 2x the price from each other. There are fittings to buy and have installed which tacks on another $50 and shipping for $20 or so, but is it really worth the 0.3dB? What would you do?

You really need to travel into some hilly areas with trees.

They do a little investigation by asking questions for things they know you've already done. And then they send you a new radio. It'll come by turtle post, but it'll get to you eventually.
