Sure there are. I would consider all repeater channels DIY channels. You have to program the radio to make them work if they are tone encoded. You have to do that yourself. The other simplex channels are all programmed to work as is.

The main reason they went to digital is so they could spy on everyone and everything. Digital data can be stored on a hard drive, it can be searched and categorized. It has the advantage of having 4 times the bandwidth for over the air and it does encrypt the signal so you can't easily receive the signal in analog form. But these days simple encryption is easily thwarted and listened to.

Pretty much the name of any bill is the exact opposite of what it actually will do.

Not exactly progress in my book. But it's a start. Got the tracking # for the antenna and waiting for the cable to be shipped. I assume a few days for that to be assembled since I'm having the ends put on it. And then the big wait for the bucket truck to become available for my use.

I can activate my stove if I put my 5 watt GMRS near it. Only on 467MHz though. And my neighbors motion activated light is activated by my 20 watt mobile, again on the 467MHz frequency. Not sure but my base station doesn't seem to turn on the light and it's the same radio I have in my truck. And I have headlamps that will turn on or change over to flashing if already on and my Fein vacuum sometimes gets activated. I don't think it's from SE's, I think it's from the direct output of the radios.

Sounds like it works both ways.

Didn't know Spurtious Emissions caused woman to be naked. Good to know.

Well you get the sad hams complaining about radios that do -58dB when the upper limit is -60dB. Good chance that -40dB isn't going to affect much.
-
Usually that not SE but on the same frequency in a constant transmit mode.

They are close. But it's not the same hand.

Ok, got the ball rolling somewhat. I ordered 24 feet of Commscope LDF4-50A 1/2" Hardline and another Comet CA-712EFC. Still need to wait for them to arrive and then the availability for my buddy to bring the bucket truck by to git R done.

AC charge controller for lifePO4 battery?
LeoG replied to WRTC928's question in Technical Discussion
When you want to connect two or more LiFePO4 batteries together you top charge them individually and then when they are all fully charged you can put them in series or parallel. If you put two batteries together that are of unsimilar charged state they might discharge into one another but the protection circuits in each battery will shut it down if the current levels get excessive and out of the set spec of the BMS. -
H3s speaker is pretty loud already.

Also my base coax has water in it. Put up a thread about it a while back. When it gets to 26F things improve immensely. At 32F you can watch the SWR go from 1.15 to 2.08 and things get much worse. I plan on doing hardline from the lightning arrester to the antenna and going to a Laird 5 dBd antenna

The home base antenna won't be going any higher, it's at 40' at the base of a 7.2dBi gain. The plan for the repeater antenna is to go from 40' to 80' and go from a Retevis 7.2dBi gain to a Comet CA712EFC 9.8Dbi gain antenna in the future trading up from M&P Hyperflex13 to 1/2" hardline.

I have a couple of the Apache cases too. Have a small one for a bunch of radios and accessories and then a larger one for radios and a mobile repeater and antenna plus a bunch of accessories for testing and maintenance.

That why both the repeaters I use have a numerical ID system. It comes with getting permission to use the repeater, they issue you an ID number. Then you can call out 105 calling 325 and you don't have to worry about getting the other Tom or Jerry that is on the repeater. After a short while you memorize the people's ID you converse with and it's easy to call out.

I have the XS-KG20G for both mobile and base. I have a 4.5 amp power supply and it works just fine with the 20 watt output. Another nice thing is you can plug the KG20 into the cigarette lighter port without issue. Both of my radios output 25 watts which is nice instead of the standard "up to" nomenclature you usually see. I am thinking about going to the KG1000 for the base since it's tough getting to my shop repeater because of terrain. The repeater (50 watts) reaches the house good but the radio at the house is iffy and sometimes it reaches and other times it can only trigger the repeater but no audio or broken audio gets through. So I think it's purely a power thing since one gets through fine and the other doesn't. If it doesn't work out I could just put it into the mobile.

There is no difference between the TD-H3 Ham and GMRS radios. When they send you the radio it tuned to the frequency of the band you bought. The radio will come with antennas specific to the radio you bought. HAM will come with antennas tuned for those frequencies and GMRS will come with an antenna tuned for that frequency. It's just the mode you choose to put it in. Most of the H3s I have are HAM versions and I bought a GMRS version and the only difference is the antenna(s)

They do it on purpose so normal people can't dissect it without a lawyers help. And they also make it so it can be interpreted several different ways. That way they can say they use this interpretation and now you need to be fined. Usually someone needs to rat you out unless you are doing something so obvious you call yourself out. My repeater is family only. I've had people decode and use the system on rare occasion. And I'm still not worried.

(c) Any GMRS repeater station is not required to transmit station identification if: (1) It retransmits only communications from GMRS stations operating under authority of the individual license under which it operates; and, (2) The GMRS stations whose communications are retransmitted are properly identified in accordance with this section. Whoops

Sounds like as long as the people using the repeater transmit their own IDs the repeater doesn't need to identify itself.

I second that. The quality control of their radios doesn't seem to be the greatest. But if you email them they'll send you a replacement without an issue. Or if you did Amazon just request a return, but you'll have to give up both and wait for the replacements. I have 14 of them and had 3 that didn't transmit properly. All replaced without issue. When you get a good one they work well. Remember, you're buying a $30 radio. I'm betting there is zero testing, they just make'm and put them in the box. For the price they can't be testing them. I have no idea how they can make a radio with all the accessories and ship it out for the price they do. I bought a Smiley antenna that cost $27 just for the antenna.

What is it that you do like?

Definitely agree with how loud they can get. Wish my Wouxun mobile would get this loud. Sound quality of the Wouxun is far better but that doesn't do it in a loud environment like on the highway with the windows down.
